Cold Threats

IRIS POV I couldn’t believe my eyes. He was real. The man from all my dreams was real and he had been standing right in front of me, looking just as breathtaking and ravishing as always. It had been over two weeks since my a*******n and this was the first time since we got to the Midnight Cove pack that I had seen anyone. If I had any doubts before about he being my saviour, seeing him during my weakest moment when I was terrified by the mean and lustful stares of the people around me took those doubts away. Not only that, seeing him had also managed to washed away the anger and bitterness in my heart and for the first time in the past two weeks, I could breathe again. Judging from the way he looked at me, I wondered if he had also dreamt of me. Even when he had finally looked away, I was still mesmerized and enchanted by him. A smile possessed my face as I looked at the setting sun from the tiny window of the cell I was locked in. Although I had no idea whatsoever of what was coming ahead, I felt quite relieved to know that someone would protect me, free from the burden of the chains and lift me up like a day old babe just like he had done severally in my dreams. Both Azara and I had been on edge initially but after our encounter with him, all our anger and pain disappeared. How I wished I had my diary with me, I would have jotted down in capital letters, THE DAY I MET MY ANGEL. Even though I had no mirror with me, I was sure that my cheeks were pink and my eyes were watery in excitement. Grrrrt!!! I almost jumped out of my skin when the metal gates of the cell creaked open and calm footsteps approached. The cell was dark and I couldn’t see a thing from afar. The footsteps were heavy, calm and slow and I was literally shaking on my toes. “Who is there?” My voice echoed in the dark. No response. The sound of the heavy footsteps echoed and vibrated the ground and I wondered which bogey-man was coming after me. “Who is there?” I asked again but received no response. The footsteps stopped and I could only see the legs of a human-monster. They were large and muscular and I was sure that with a little kick, it could take me six feet under. “Don’t you recognize me?” I heard the deep baritone voice of a man. The giant lowered himself into a crouching position until I was looking into the eyes of the monster who had killed my father and had taken me away from my pack. I walked backwards away from him until my back met with the jagged walls of the cell. “Stay away from me!” He snickered. “Or what?” I balled my hands into a fist and slammed it into the walls. “Believe me you don’t want to find out,” His eyes bulged a little and I could see a faint smile across his face. “That’s tough, lady. You’re a lot like your father.” He scoffed. “Tough and stupid.” My fingers stung me and I could feel the warm blood oozing out of my palm. “You might want to get that treated,” He said as he lowered his gaze to my bleeding hand. “As you can see, this place ain’t that hygienic, leave it like that for an hour and an infection kicks in.” His hands moved so fast that I didn’t know when he grabbed my hand and held them up in the air. “Let go of me!” His face broke into a smile and he spat into my palm and rubbed his saliva on it. “That should help,” He said as he let go of my hand after giving it a tight squeeze. Azara was growling within and was really provoked by the giant man already. Unlike Azara who had a short fuse, I really didn’t like losing my temper. His large hands reached out to my face and rested on my cheeks. The feeling of his hard hands on my cheek almost made me gag in irritation. His face was the most scary thing in the world. He had one patched eye and the other one was swollen and red, his nose was long, crooked and appeared to have been broken a lot of times in the past. A large bristly mustache towered over his thin chapped lips which had a lot of golden rings on it. His ears were tattooed and had several rings on them too. His entire body looked like that of a bear and in conclusion, he was the scariest living thing in the world. His eyes scanned me from head to toe, stopping at my chest and legs for a longer period of time. After his examination, he cleared his throat and to my surprise, he spat into my face. “How did that feel, blessed one?” He asked in mockery. “Is the goddess going to strike me dead for disrespecting her blessed one?” I cleaned the saliva from my face with the edge of my torn dress before replying the terrifying monster. “Well, let’s watch out and see.” His smile faded and he became mad at once. “That’s a sharp mouth you’ve got there, honey.” He leaned towards me and whispered in my ears. “But I’m sure that a day or two of sucking every guard’s c**k would make it blunt.” The thought of it was horrid enough to send chills down my spine. “Take it as a threat,” He leaned back and then smiled. “This isn’t the south, dear. This is the north and in the north we don’t give a f**k about goddesses or blessed wolves!” “Why don’t you do worst?” I asked as I was very unwilling to show how much I was terrified and horrified by him. He broke into laughter which echoed loudly in the cell. “You’re very brave,” He complimented. “Very brave but also very, very stupid.” He patted my chin before rising to his feet. “I like that.” “If you truly aren’t scared of me or the goddess, why haven’t you thrown me to your guards or even burn me alive like you do to other wolves?” He scoffed. “Don’t mistake my hesitance to torture you as a sign of care or fear. The only reason why I haven’t killed you is because you’re a famous storybook character and might serve as a good s*x toy for my son.” Son? Was my dream man the son of this monster? No way! “If I were you, I’d be praying that my son accepts you because if he doesn’t,” He chuckled. “You’d be serving as a good w***e and making tons of money for me. Believe me, everyone would want to have a taste of the blessed one.” My blood ran cold and goosebumps surfaced on my skin. Much to my relief, the giant Alpha began to walk away and with every step he took, the more my frozen heart melted. At the gate of the cell, he said. “I really hope he likes you, so don’t act smart or stubborn with him for both our sakes.” The gate of the cell slammed shut and I could hear him bolt the gate. The echoes of his deserting steps faded and I gasped out, breathing heavily with tears pouring out of my eyes. I knelt and sent a prayer of protection and safety to the goddess but even after that, I was still unsettled and aghast.
