IRIS POV
My fingers ran through the pictures of my dream man as I looked around his apartment.
The Alpha’s other son who I had pacted a deal with had brought me over here as we had agreed.
He didn’t look too happy or excited with his decision as he had had to bribe the guards in order for them to get me out of jail and sneak me out to a little cottage where my dream man.
I was the only one in the house and the Alpha’s son who the guards had referred to as Beta Liam, was waiting outside.
I couldn’t conceal the smile on my face as I looked at his pictures and portraits and I really respected and adored his antique fashion sense.
Although some of the sculptures frightened me, I was still pleased by everything I saw.
Finally, I walked into his bedroom which was medium sized and absolutely lovely.
Azara really loved the whiteness of the whole room.
The white walls, white rug, white bed stand, white bedcovers, white curtains and the only things that weren’t so white was a large black box which he kept close to his bed.
I wondered what was in it and when my curiousity drew me closer to the box, I immediately retreated when I saw the padlock on it.
I was a bit puzzled as to why he would lock his things but I cautioned myself from being too inquisitive and snoopy.
I sat on his bed and rose his pillows up to my nostrils to take a deep sniff of them and when I did, I was intoxicated by his scent.
He smelt like incense. Not any kind of incense but sweet deeply alluring incense specifically meant to seduce me and Azara.
As I shut my eyes to take a deeper sniff, I began to see things. Things which made me smile and moan in delight.
Then I caught myself and felt slightly embarrassed.
I successfully took my nostrils away from the pillows and cuddled them and for the first time in my life, I thought about mating and the more I thought of it, the faster the butterflies in my belly moved.
I couldn’t help but imagine what life with my dream man would be like.
I imagined how our pups would be like and although I knew I was good looking, I wanted all of them to look like him. To have those serene eyes and warm undertone like my dream man.
My heart was racing so fast now and knowing myself very well, I didn’t dare to look in the mirror as I was sure that my face was reddening by the moment. No one had ever made me feel like this, none of my secret crushes had ever had such an effect on me and I couldn’t help but wonder how I had fallen so quickly for a man who was the son of the dreadful Alpha.
My eyes shifted to the window where I saw a crow in a cage. His pure white eyes were fixated on me and It was just too creepy that I had to look away but in doing so, my eyes caught a dark brown book which looked like a journal.
I reached out to it, ignoring the mean stares of the crow and then I saw a calligraphic handwriting, boldly written on the first page.
Journey of dark days before the day of purge. B.12
I didn’t get the message but I decided to keep my dignity and stop invading his privacy. In other words, I returned the book.
As soon as I dropped the book, the crow starting acted wild and squawking loudly, hitting his cage in anger.
I was still trying to silence the loud bird when I heard the front door of the cottage open.
I rushed back to the bed and adjusted the dress I had been given and changed sitting position over and over again until he walked in.
He didn’t look shocked neither did he show any signs of anger towards me.
I smiled in timidity but still his inscrutable expression wasn’t altered.
He stood by the door side and his eyes wandered around his room, probably checking if I had taken or stolen anything.
“Hi,” I said, trying to break the awkward silence in the room. “I just…”
“What are you doing here?” He asked, shutting me up.
“I uhm… I just came to… to say hi,” I almost slapped myself for blurting that out.
His eyes rested on me and I felt cold again. “If that’s why you’re here then you better take your leave before anyone else sees you and puts my brother into trouble.”
“Well,” I said, nervously toying with a strand of my hair. “I also came to talk to you.”
I waited for him to say something but when he said nothing, I decided to say what I had in mind.
“I know this might sound weird but… I have seen you before.”
No change in his expression. He didn’t show shock or belief. “Yes, I saw you earlier today, blessed one.”
“No, I know we met today ” I said. “But I have seen you before today. In fact I have seen you over and over for the past month.”
His killer cold look almost made me freeze at the spot.
“Where?” He asked.
“I-in my dreams.” I revealed. “I have dreamt about you every single night since last month and I don’t know why but I think it was all for a purpose.”
One notable difference in his expression was the double blink of his eyes and the slight shift of his gaze.
But he still didn’t say anything.
“So what do you think?” I asked, feeling excited. “Have you also had dreams about me? What are they about?”
He didn’t say anything so I waited for him to reply before bombarding him with more questions.
He sighed. “I think you should drop my pillows and leave my house this instant.”
His response came like a sharp blow to my head.
“Wait, wait, wait…” I said in confusion. I looked deeper in his eyes and I tried to see any sign of love or recognition but I saw nothing but unconcern and from the stress in his eyes, it appeared that I was just a disturbance to him. “So you really don’t know me?”
He shook his head. “I know you’re an unfortunate girl who was abducted during my father’s last raid of the southeastern parts of the realm and who was gifted to be my s*x slave.”
My heart was breaking down and all my dreams of being saved and rescued were shattering.
“Don’t be scared, I promise to reject the offer anyways.” He added as he walked to his crow’s cage and fed him with peanuts.
“No, please don’t do that.” I begged as I remembered what the Alpha had said to me earlier on.
“Why?” He asked with his back turned to me as he fed his crow.
“They’d… they would torture me in the worst manners possible.” I said, shaking by the thought of it. “If you reject me, they’d make my life miserable.”
“And what makes you think I care.”
I was about to tell him that he was my saviour and my protector and that I had been relying all my hopes on him but then my naivety went out the window when he turned around and a flare of anger flicked across his eyes.
Like a robot, I dropped the pillows, rose from the bed and walked out without looking back or saying a word.
As I got out of the cottage, I was met by the cold biting wind which moved past me and reminded me of home. Reminded me of a place where I had been loved, respected and adored and then I realized that I was never going back there. I was never going to run into my father’s arms and ask him to tell me stories, neither would I hear the shrilling laughter of my mother nor would I get teased and mocked by Lyta.
The tears which had been welling up in my eyes for a long time now, came running down my pale cheeks.
