An electrical contractor put in the circuit boxes, but I wired the house and barn like I’d learned from working on Walter’s place. Then I set about laying insulation right on top of the existing walls and covering that over with sheet rock. Working alone had its drawbacks. I missed Nola and Junie like crazy, and I still ached for Carlos. There were times I sat down on the floor and wondered why I kept trying. I called the girls almost every day until I figured that was getting in the way of Junie settling into her new home. She ended up crying every time we talked. I let Mom know I’d arrived okay and told her the girls were doing fine. She’d already called her sister and talked to them a couple of times.
