Ava got to her office with her heart racing, different thoughts spinning through her head. Every step felt heavier than the last, her mind replaying Damian’s smirk and the necklace in his hand.
Monica noticed her rushing in and smiled to herself. Maybe the boss has given her a taste of his tea, she thought, completely unaware of what had actually happened.
Ava grabbed a glass of water and gulped it down, but it did little to calm the fire burning in her chest. She fished her phone out of her bag and immediately called Tessa.
“Tessa,” she panted, “you won’t believe what just happened!”
As she detailed the ordeal, Tessa’s voice was a mixture of shock and excitement. “Girl! Why did you deny your necklace? How are you going to get it back? You know how special that necklace is to you!”
Ava sighed, frustration washing over her. “Are you saying I was supposed to admit to being the girl he had a night stand with? What if he decides to sack me?”
Tessa paused for a moment, then replied softly, “That’s true…”
Ava leaned back in her chair, trying to steady her breathing. “Don’t worry. I’ll figure out a way to get the necklace back. Right now, I need to plan my outfit for tonight.”
Tessa’s voice softened with reassurance. “Don’t worry, Ava. We’ll figure it out once you come back.”
Ava’s lips curved into a grateful smile. “Love you, Tessa. I don’t even know what I would have done without you.”
