First Love

While walking, we saw a bunch of people and an ambulance gathered near the seashore. "Hey Laine, let's go and see what the commotion is about," Annie said as she pulled me. As we came closer, we saw a medical team rushing to the person lying on the sand. We try to slip through the crowd to get closer to the scene. As we got closer, I heard some of the crowd talking about what was happening. "They said they saw the guy lying in the sand, and when they got closer the guy looked like he was dead." the girl whispered to her friend. "This is a small island and no one knows the guy," the other guy said as he gazed at the guy lying "No one was near him when they saw him lying." the other girl replied to the guy. "Laine," Annie shouted. I quickly got to her side, and she looked like she had seen a ghost. "Why do you look like you have seen a ghost?" I jokingly asked. "I guess I actually do," she said as she pointed to the guy lying, "isn't that Kiel?" She said, so I looked closely. "Kiel!" I suddenly shouted his name and ran towards him. The people around started whispering. That made me realize what I had done. "Ma'am? Are you an acquaintance of his?" One of the medical team asked. I nodded and replied "I know him," looking at Kiel. "Is it okay if you come with us?" He asked. I looked at Annie first, and she nodded and said that I should go, so I nodded at him, and he directed me to the ambulance. Before we departed, I asked them, "Can we go to XXX Hospital, it's the nearer hospital and I know a doctor there." They agreed, and I texted Ivan about what happened and told him about the condition of Kiel. As soon as we arrived, Ivan immediately looked at Kiel's condition and examined him. After several hours, I saw Ivan walking towards me. "He's unconscious, but he's going to be fine." he said, that led me to take a deep breath. "We took a test, and it looks like he drowned, but other than that he's fine. Let's just wait for him to wake up." Ivan said and it made me feel relieved. "By the way, who is he?" he asked curiously, I hesitated for a bit before answering him, "he's Kiel." I replied and he glared at me. "Who!?" He yelled, which made the other people around us look our way. I looked at them and gestured that it was nothing, then I pulled him into a corner. "Why is he here!? Why is he with you!?" He angrily said. "Calm down, will you? Annie and I were on our way to the day care when we saw a commotion and then, in curiosity, we went to look and that's when we saw him." I calmly explained to him, and he still glares at me. "I can't just leave him alone, can I? I heard that no one was with him and, since I know him, I decided I should help." I added, and he just sighed. "Fine. Whatever you say," He said and pat my head. "I'm sorry for getting angry. I just can't help but worry" he said, with a bitter smile. "I should go, I still have things to do." He said, then left. I went to Kiel's room. I sat on an empty chair near his bed. I looked at him deeply, "Hey, why are you here?" I said to him even though I knew he was still unconscious. I just stared at him while so many questions were running into my head that it made me fall asleep. I woke up from a phone call. I was startled as I realized I had fallen asleep. "Hello?" I said as I answered the phone. "Laine! Where are you? Are you okay?" I looked at who was calling, and it was Annie. I notice the time and it's already night. "I'm fine, I'm still in the hospital and I fell asleep," I said, and looked at Kiel who was still unconscious. "Everyone at the daycare was worried you didn't tell them that you'd not be coming to work today." Annie said in a worried tone. "I'm sorry, I forgot because of all the commotion," I said, "It's okay. I understand," Annie said. I could hear her sighing on the other line. "Are you going home or are you staying at the hospital tonight?" she asked. "I'm going home. We still have work tomorrow." I said as I walked out of the room and went to the nurse's station. "Excuse me miss." I said to the nurse. She looked at me. "Please contact me if the patient in room 213 wakes up. Here's my number." She looked at me puzzled, "I'm acquainted with that person. I just need to go home as I still have work tomorrow." She took the paper in my hand. 'Thank you." I said in relief and she nodded. I passed by Ivan's clinic, but the nurses said that he had already gone home. That was why I just decided to go home and have a rest. It's already morning. I got up and ate breakfast before fixing myself and my things. As soon as I was done, I heard a knock on my door. When I opened it, I saw Annie. "Good morning!" She greeted me. "Good morning!" I greeted her back. "How are you?" She asked, and I could see that she was worried. "I'm fine. Don't worry," I assured her with a smile. "Let's go?" I said, and we both went to the daycare. As we arrived, the children were already there. "Teacher Laine!" They all shouted and ran towards me. "Hey kids!" I said as they approached me. "We thought you wouldn't come today." They said and made a sad face. "I'm sorry if I didn't notify you guys early that I'd be absent yesterday." I said, "I hope you guys didn't give your teachers a headache yesterday." I said and they all looked away. "Ahem," I faked a coughed, and they all looked down. "Oh, Laine, don't be hard on them." Annie said, "they didn't give me a headache." She chuckled, so i raised my eyebrows and looked at her in question. "Only teacher Red." She said while laughing while I sighed. "We're sorry teacher Laine." the children said, I smiled at them, "just don't do that I again, okay? Get along with your other teachers too, not just me." I said and they all nodded. "Okay, let's go inside," I added, and walked, then they followed. "Good Morning Laine, also to your little minions." Zero said, then laughed. "Oh, there is also a little minion beside you." I looked at him confusingly, then suddenly he received a smack on the head. "And who's this little minion you're talking about?" Annie said, then Zero looked at her with a serious face. "You." He simply said, then ran outside. The children laugh so hard as they watch Annie chasing Zero all around. "If you are just going to play around, why not play with the kids." A cold voice said. They stop and look at my back while the kids stop laughing and look frightened. "Stop with the cold attitude Red, you're also scaring the kids." I said, and he just turned his back on me. "You're really cool, Laine," Zero said beside me. "Yeah, you're the only one who can talk to him like that." Annie said and pulled Zero, then he smacked his head again. "Hey you two! Stop being violent in front of the kids." I said as I glared at them and they stopped. "Kids, don't ever do that okay?" I said to them. "Yes, teacher Laine!" they all said in unison. "I can't really leave these kids to you guys." I said to them, "okay kids, let's go to the playroom." I said and, led them. *After several hours* "Kids! It's lunchtime! Do all of you have a packed lunch?" I asked. "Yes teacher!" They all said. "Okay, eat properly, okay? Don't leave any food behind. You shouldn't be picky about your food," I said, and then they all ate in peace. While eating, my phone suddenly rang. I excuse myself and answer the call. "Hello, this is the nurse from XXX hospital. Patient Kiel from room 213 is awake." The nurse said, I felt like something was wrong based on her tone, "Can you come to the hospital right now? The doctor will explain everything when you arrive." She said, and I agreed and then ended the call. I entered the room and talked to the children. "Kids, teacher Laine has an emergency that I need to attend to. That's why I need to go. Can you promise me that you'll be a good kid and listen to teacher Red, teacher Annie and teacher Zero?" I said, and the kids nodded, and I bid them goodbye. Before going, I just briefly explained to Annie what happened and then went. When I arrived at the hospital, I immediately went to Kiel's room. As soon as I entered, I saw some nurses. "What happened?" I asked, and I saw Kiel sitting on the bed. "He just woke up and isn't speaking to any of us. We informed doctor Ivan, he would be here any minute." the nurse said. "Kiel?" I softly said. He looked at me as if he had never met me, but it only took a couple of seconds before the question on my mind was answered, "Do you know me?" He said, which made me confused. "I'm Laine, your classmate and friend in elementary." I said and he looked at me confused. "I know it's been a long time since we saw each other. You probably forgot about me," I said, setting aside the feeling like something was wrong. "Laine?" He asked. "Yes, it's me Laine," I said, and he looked at me like he was trying to remember. "You said Kiel earlier, is that my name?" he asked. "Yes" I answered in confusion. He looked at me and said something that made me shocked. "What am I doing here? I can't remember anything" he said, and held his head as if it was hurting.
