14 It was hard to leave Jake at my place and go to work that afternoon. But even though I realized I’d reached a decision as I sat there at our table at Bar 10, I hadn’t yet made him any promises. If nothing else, I needed to work my shift so I wouldn’t leave anyone in the lurch. He said he’d hang for a while, and then go out and explore Riverton while daylight held. And actually, he told me he’d be fine with going back to his hotel room, but I’d replied that I wanted him at my place when I got home from work, even though it wouldn’t be until after midnight.
