Chapter 1: The Girl in the Moon Grove.
Aria's POV The first thing I noticed was the cold. It seeped into my skin, wrapped around my body, and settled deep in my bones. A soft groan escaped my lips as I forced my eyes open. For several seconds, all I saw was silver. Silver mist. Silver light. Silver leaves swaying gently above me. I blinked. Once. Twice. My head throbbed painfully. The world spun. Confusion washed over me as I pushed myself into a sitting position. Where was I? The question came immediately. Unfortunately, I didn't have an answer. I looked around. Tall trees surrounded me on every side. Their pale trunks glowed faintly beneath the moonlight, making the forest appear almost magical. Beautiful. And completely unfamiliar. Panic stirred in my chest. I tried to remember how I had gotten here. Nothing. I searched my memory again. Still nothing. My breathing quickened. The harder I tried to remember, the worse the headache became. A sharp pain shot through my skull. I pressed trembling fingers against my temples. "Think." My voice sounded weak. Barely above a whisper. "Just think." Nothing came. No names. No faces. No memories. Not even a single clue. A horrible realization settled over me. I couldn't remember anything. Not where I was. Not how I got here. Not even— My stomach dropped. I couldn't remember my own name. Fear gripped my heart. I scrambled to my feet so quickly that I nearly fell. "No." The word escaped before I could stop it. This couldn't be happening. People didn't just forget everything. Did they? I turned in a slow circle. The silver forest stared back in eerie silence. No answers. No people. Nothing. A strange feeling of loneliness settled over me. I was completely alone. --- A twig snapped somewhere behind me. I froze. Every muscle in my body went rigid. Slowly, I turned. Silence. The forest remained still. Maybe I imagined it. Maybe— Another snap echoed through the trees. Definitely not my imagination. My pulse quickened. Someone was out there. Or something. The realization sent fear rushing through me. I backed away cautiously. One step. Then another. The mist seemed thicker now. Darker. The beautiful forest no longer felt welcoming. It felt dangerous. A low growl suddenly echoed through the trees. My blood turned to ice. The sound was deep. Animalistic. Predatory. Every instinct inside me screamed the same thing. Run. I didn't hesitate. I turned and ran. Branches whipped against my arms. Roots caught at my feet. The cold night air burned in my lungs. Behind me, the growling grew louder. Closer. Much closer. Terror clawed its way through my chest. I didn't know what was chasing me. I didn't want to know. All I knew was that if it caught me, something terrible would happen. The thought pushed me faster. Then my foot caught on a root. I gasped. The ground rushed toward me. Pain exploded through my knee as I hit the forest floor. "No!" Panic surged through me. I scrambled backward desperately. Leaves crunched nearby. Something emerged from the shadows. My breath stopped. A wolf. A massive wolf. Far larger than any normal animal. Its black fur gleamed beneath the moonlight. Golden eyes locked onto mine. The intelligence in those eyes terrified me even more than its size. The creature wasn't simply looking at me. It was studying me. Hunting me. I could barely breathe. The wolf took another step forward. Then another. I pressed myself against a tree. My entire body trembled. Was this how I died? Alone. Lost. Without even knowing who I was? The thought made tears sting my eyes. The wolf growled again. Lower this time. Deadlier. I squeezed my eyes shut. Unable to watch. Unable to move. Waiting for the attack. Waiting for the pain. Waiting for the end. But it never came. Instead— A powerful roar echoed through the forest. The sound was so loud that the ground seemed to shake. My eyes flew open. The black wolf had stopped moving. Its ears flattened instantly. Fear flashed across its face. Fear. The predator was afraid. A second later, another figure emerged from the trees. And everything changed. --- He was the most intimidating man I had ever seen. Tall. Broad-shouldered. Powerful. The moonlight illuminated sharp features and dark hair. His silver eyes seemed to glow against the darkness. For a brief moment, the forest itself appeared to bend around his presence. The air felt heavier. Charged. Dangerous. The black wolf immediately lowered its head. Submitting. The gesture shocked me. Who was this man? The stranger's gaze shifted toward me. The moment our eyes met, something strange happened. A sudden warmth spread through my chest. A feeling I couldn't explain. Recognition. Not because I knew him. I was certain I had never seen him before. Yet somehow... Those silver eyes felt important. The sensation disappeared as quickly as it came. The stranger frowned. His gaze swept over me. Assessing. Calculating. Then his eyes narrowed. Confusion flashed across his face. As if he had noticed something unexpected. For several seconds, neither of us spoke. The silence stretched. My heart pounded nervously. Finally, he broke it. "Who are you?" The question should have been simple. Instead, it shattered what little composure I had left. Because I didn't know. I swallowed hard. Embarrassment burned through me. Fear followed immediately afterward. The stranger continued watching me. Waiting. I lowered my gaze. Then forced out the truth. "I don't know." The words sounded pathetic. Weak. Broken. Silence followed. I risked a glance upward. The stranger was staring at me. His expression unreadable. "I don't remember anything," I admitted quietly. The confession hurt. More than I expected. For a moment, I thought he might leave. Thought he might decide I wasn't worth the trouble. Instead, his gaze shifted to something hanging around my neck. I frowned. Following his line of sight. A silver pendant rested against my chest. The pendant was shaped like a crescent moon. I hadn't even noticed it before. The stranger's expression changed instantly. Shock flashed across his face. Gone so quickly I almost missed it. Almost. My pulse quickened. What had he seen? What did the pendant mean? The questions piled up. But before I could ask any of them, the stranger spoke again. This time, his voice was much quieter. Much more dangerous. "Where did you get that necklace?" I looked down at the pendant. Then back at him. My stomach sank. Because once again... I had no answer. And judging by the look in his eyes— That answer might change everything.
