Chapter one:Elias
CHAPTER ONE
"So, what does sit say?" I asked my brother Gabriel, nervously sitting on the other side of the desk in my home office. It was nothing special, just my third bedroom i had turned into an office to make it easier to work whenever i had to work from home.
"Wait, Elias.... It says that..." He scrolls down on my computer and exclaims, "You GO THE Job.Bro you really got the job!" He hugs me.I was so excited that i couldn't express my feelings.
"Seriously? " I ask in disbelief. I couldn't comprehend it. He lets me go and says, "Believe it or not, bro it's true," he says as he swats at my hand.
"Ouch!" I laughed and hugged him again, filled with joy and excitement.
I know you guys are confused. So let me tell you. Two months ago, I got fired from my job as a secretary because my boss's son tried to harass me. He only did it because he knew I was an omega. I slapped him in self-defense and my boss happened to come in. On his inquiry as to why i had done that and as to why I had rushed out on his son, my explanation to everything did not suffice his desire even though I was telling the truth. His son denied everything, saying I slapped him for nothing, leaving me in the limelight. So I was fired.
Thre weeks later my brother told me that the CEO of Blackthorn Enterprises, Damian Caleb Blackwell, an alpha and the sole owner of the company, was hiring an assistant. Gabriel thought that i should at least apply even though i was really against it and there was a valid reason for that. Damian Caleb Blackwell is a cruel, cocky, arrogant player and most of all his hate for all Omegas was not a secret, but here i was, and it seems like I will be his secretary starting tomorrow. I was already starting to regret it and I wanted to stop worrying.
My brother put his hand over my shoulder, pulling me from my train of thoughts. "Your first day is tomorrow, and we need to buy you some new business outfits," he says. My brother was my go-to person. Gabriel might be a bit crazy, but he is the funniest, sweetest and most caring person i know. As for me being 26, single, unmated and weird, I would be working for Damian as his assistant.
Gabreil grabs my arm and pulls me towards the door as well as my thoughts," Let's go now." He says as he lets me go briefly to wear his shoes.
We took his car to the mall and buzzed through so many stores i lost count. One thing about Gabriel is he loved shopping and would do it for hours. Six hours later, I was so tired i could hardly feel my legs as we walked back into the house. We were done shopping and the indication of the pain in my body, i was not doing that again anytime soon. But whoever was kidding Gabriel would always find a way to drag me along, and I enjoyed the time we spent together.
We dropped the bags next to the couch and collapsed on it. "Remind again why i did this?" My brother exhaled and asked with his eyes closed. "Because you love me." i smiled. He signs with a smile.
"I am so exhausted," he says as he takes off his shoes and lies comfortably on the couch.
"Okay. You can stay over for the night but make sure you go home early tomorrow. OK! "The guest room is clean. "You can take a shower and sleep there," i say tiredly while rubbing my eyes. Getting no response, I opened my eyes to find that he was already sleeping. I chuckled and walked into my bedroom to get him a blanket.
I knew he was tired because he had come here direct from his acting set. Atleast this time it was close by. His career had easily peaked because he was not only handsome but really talented and had a good manager. Him being an alpha, even though he was younger than me, could never stop him from being super overprotective of me. He had to be on set early in the morning or his manager would be knocking down my door if he was late again. He really needed as much rest as he could get.
I covered him and walked back to my room. Taking off my clothes, I headed for the shower, preferring a cold one because i was hot. Once i was done, I walked out with a towel around my tossle, which might be rather odd, but it was one of my favorite things that i secretly loved doing. I dried off and got into my pajamas, a matching silk set of shorts and a shirt. i loved how smooth the material felt on my skin. As i got into bed i could help thinking about my first day as Damian Caleb Blackwell's assistant.
The alarm i had set woke me up at 6 am. I don't remember when i drifted off to sleep, but with how tired I was, I'm not surprised i passed out. It was still early but i had to be at Blackthorn Enterprise by 9:30 am. I dragged myself out of bed and went down to prepare breakfast for Gabriel and I. One look at the couch i knew he was not there, so I took a pick at my phone. He left me a message.
(Baby Bro: Hey bro. Sorry i had to leave early. i had to go because my manager called. I ordered you some eggrolls and pancakes. Sorry i couldn't make myself for your big day. Aila dropped off a bento, you can take it to work with you for lunch. Love you bro all the best on your first day.
FYI:You are going to rock this.)
I smiled as i walked into the kitchen and found the food had already been put on a plate with a sticky note pinned on the cover. "You have got this bro. "Make sure you eat everything." Then a smiley face. Gosh, he really was going all out today.
I sat on the barstool and devoured the food. Since i was so tired last night, I skipped dinner. I was starving. Once I was done, I did the dishes and cleaned the kitchen. I headed back to my room after to get ready.
I take a shower and wash my hair. When I am done, I put on a robe and wrap a towel around my head salon style so it will dry a bit faster while I pick out my clothes for the day.
Walking to my walk-in closet, I found that most of the stuff we bought yesterday was already hung in there. How asleep I was. I didn't hear my brother walk into my room.
i smiled and shook my head as i picked out a black professional suit. I blow dry my hair and tire it in a messy bun and put my suit on. The bun made me look put together professional but also approachable. Being an Omega, most people never really cared what my hair was as long as I looked part of the job. So I always keep it on the longer side.
I took my bag and walked out of the house to the garage. Getting into my car, I took off to a new adventure, a new job.
I park my car in the company underground parking lot after i arrive at Blackthorn Enterprises. I took the elevator to the top floor and my mouth hung open at the sight. It was the first time I was physically here since I had my interview held online. i had done some research, but the pictures did not do justice to this place. Walking to the receptionist's desk, I said politely.
"Hello." The receptionist looked up. She looked like she was in her mid-forties and with a smile she said,"Hi, Honey."
"Good morning, i got an email yesterday saying that i am Mr Damian Caleb Blackwell's new assistant and today is my first day," I said. "Oh, yes, that's right. You are Mr Elias Mercer. "Wait a second sweetheart,"she says. Taking a cordless phone and a few seconds later she says," Mr Blackwell, Mr Mercer is here... OK... Bye." She hung up the phone and said," Please follow me."
I followed her to a door at the end of the hall, way more like around the corner to which I am guessing is Mr Blackwell's office. I tightly held my folder in my arms when a deep voice from the room said,"Come in."
The lady opens the door and it reveals the office.
The office wasn’t just impressive, it was overwhelming. Massive and deliberately intimidating, it sprawled out before me like the lair of something ancient and powerful. Floor-to-ceiling glass lined the entire far wall, giving an unobstructed view of the city below. Everything looked so small from up here. Cars, people, even the skyline itself. The clouds hung low and heavy, like the sky knew who ruled from this height.
Polished black marble stretched beneath my feet, veined with silver that caught the light like lightning frozen in stone. Every step echoed, too loud, like the building was listening. The air was cold and perfectly still. I could smell faint traces of something expensive, clean, sharp, and undercut by the unmistakable scent of Alpha. Not any Alpha. The Alpha. Him.
I hadn’t even met him yet, and still, his presence filled the space like gravity.
A massive desk, sleek, obsidian, and almost brutally minimal, sat before the windows. A single sculpture rested on one corner, blood-red glass twisted into something jagged and aggressive. It looked like it might draw blood if you touched it the wrong way. Or maybe that was the point.
The chair behind the desk faced the windows, turned just enough to make me wonder if someone was sitting in it, watching. Waiting.
I swallowed, my throat suddenly dry.
The walls were lined with abstract artwork, dark and bold—no family portraits, no accolades. Nothing sentimental. Just raw, emotional power. One canvas looked like a storm in oil. Another, like a battlefield drenched in fire and gold. Everything here had been chosen for a reason.
This wasn’t just an office. It was a message. A throne room. A warning.
And I was the Omega walking into it. An assistant, new, untested, and very aware of the fact that I didn’t belong here. Not really. Not yet.
But I had been summoned. And I answered.
Now all I could do was wait.
"Mr Blackwell, Mr Mercer is here." The chair moved.
A soft creak, nothing more but it felt like thunder in the silence.
Then he stood.
Mr. Blackwell turned with the slow, deliberate grace of someone who was never in a hurry, because time bent towards him, not the other way around. For a second, all I could do was stare. Every inch of him radiated control. The tailored black suit hugged his tall frame with effortless precision, as if the fabric itself obeyed him. And then his eyes, God, his eyes.
They met mine without hesitation.
Brown, but not warm. Not kind. They were the color of a storm, wet earth, but streaked with smoky gray, like clouds rolling in over something ancient and unforgiving. And just beneath all that, barely there, but unmistakable a flicker of gold. Not bright, but molten. Dangerous.
He saw everything.
"You can go now, Anna." He says, not taking his eyes off me.
