I shifted to my wolf form to get to the estate without notice. My gray fur blended with the incoming darkness and foliage around me. The estate was built to ensure maximum security in case there was an outbreak of war with a rival pack. However, ever since the Pact between all the Alphas, there shouldn't be any outbreaks of wars.
Unless there was something else the rest of us didn't know.
Creeping beneath the bushes as I burrowed my way into the estate, I looked around, wondering why there were never any guards around. While the estate was huge, and the only people who knew how to burrow in, were people like me, those who grew up there, wouldn't it be smart to put patrol guards on duty?
I shook my head. It made sense why they didn't because there had never been an attack on our pack since the Pact.
The closer I had gotten to the estate, the more my wolf whined. She sensed him. He was all the way inside and she could still sense him. My heart yearned for him, craved him more than anything in this entire world.
As I shifted back to my human form, I felt myself slick and quickly threw up a barrier within my mind. It was small, and wouldn't work on more powerful Alphas who knew how to break shields. I suppose that would be a great thing about going to Lycan School. It will teach me how to put up more powerful barriers in place.
I pulled on the clothes I had carried in my mouth on the way over here, then I slid in through one of the kitchens. It was empty, with dirty dishes and pots everywhere, as if they had left in a rush. I could almost see it, Colvin going into a fit of rage and forcing all the cooks and maids to leave.
If I were them, I wouldn't want to be there with a mourning Colvin either. I'm sure only the Alphas are able to withstand him and even calm him down if need be.
The stairs creaked beneath my weight as I climbed up to the main floor. As I expected, it was empty. I found my way upstairs and just outside the door where they held the meeting. I pressed my ear to the door, straining to hear what they were saying, and my wolf ears came out. They twitched as they honed in on the voices.
I heard Alistair's voice first, "All I'm saying is it would be impossible for us to ask him to find another Luna."
Someone grunted then spoke, it was Rowan. I knew it from how uncaring he sounded. "His pack is in disarray, and you all know the other Alphas don't give a f**k about the Pact. If they believe taking this pack will gain them more power, they'll do it, even if they risk death. Another Luna would prevent that."
"He can't, Ro. I agree with you, but Col is in no shape to take another Luna. He'd probably rather kill than f**k her." Caleb interjected, sounded tired. I could picture him rubbing the back of his neck, trying to massage the knots out of his broad shoulders.
"Then what are we going to do? It's only a matter of time before they realize the truth about Aurora and take what's left of this pack," Rowan countered as I sucked in a quiet breath.
The truth about my sister? They definitely knew something, and I owed it to her to not stop until I figured out what that was.
