I choked on my coffee. What the hell do they mean who am I going to marry? I am perfectly happy right now, and I am not even dating anyone. Shaking my head, “What do you mean who am I going to marry?”
All the guys looked puzzled, like I was the one that asked the confusing question instead of Chris.
“Doll, what we are asking is who are you engaged to?”
“I’m not engaged to anyone! Why does that matter? Also, how is it any of your business James, or you Derrek, or you Chris?”
“Love, who are you dating?”
“No one! Again, how is this any of your business?”
Chris cleared his throat, “Des, breathe. It’s not that big of a deal.”
“Not that big of a deal? You three randomly show up the day after my birthday, somehow knowing each other, to ask about my love life? What right do any of you have to ask about that?”
“Love...”
“No, don’t ‘Love’ me! I want answers, truthful answers about why you are here. You have exactly 5 minutes to tell me what the hell is going on or I am calling the police.” Cherry jumped up into my chair when I raised my voice and licked my face, trying to calm me down.
James chuckled, “I am the police, Doll.”
“Not in Idaho. You are a Missouri cop. And now you have 4 minutes.”
Chris held up his hands, “Okay. I will tell you the truth. You won’t believe it though.”
“Try me.”
“You, Destiny Reign, are part Fate, specifically half Fate. Per Fate law, each female Fate is assigned 4 male Fates to interact with in her life. After she has met and had a relationship, be it work, friend, or romantically, she gets engaged to one of the four. She must be engaged by her 23rd birthday to be married before she turns 24. Female Fate’s only have until 35 to give birth, so the Council set these ages for females to give plenty of time for them to have more than 1 child. Derrek, James, and I are 3 of your four Fates. We all got an email from the Fate Council last night asking which one of us you were engaged to. After we all realized that none of us were your lucky man, we stalked you on social media. When we didn’t see any dating or engaged posts, we decided to pay you a visit. We figured whoever you were dating or engaged to had to be your 4th Fate, and then we could report to the Council that you were engaged to a Fate.”
I stared at Chris. He has lost his mind! Fates, part Fate, 4 men I am supposed to meet and marry one of them? This is a complete lie! “I said the truth!”
“This is the truth, Doll. However, if you aren’t dating or engaged to anyone, that means that the 4th Fate hasn’t done his job. Which means something must have happened to him, or he went rogue.”
“Rogue? Like he was assigned to me and looked at me and said, ‘I’m good, she’s not my type?’”
Derrek nodded, sitting up straighter and looking me in the eyes. “Basically, which means that you only have 3 Fates, and you must marry one of us, after we report him to the Council of course. It’s not that big of a deal Love.”
I put down my coffee cup and stand up. Not that big of a deal, just here are three men that I have pictured myself possibly marrying and now they all want to marry me.
Crossing my arms, I take a deep breath. “Okay, say I believe you. You said I was half Fate, which means that one of my parent’s was Fate, and I am guessing that it was my dad because if my mom was a Fate then my dad would have also been a Fate according to the rules?”
Chris nodded, “Yes, your dad was Fate. He was a Rogue.”
