Chapter 1
The loud creaking of a rusted door sent birds scattering from the tall and unruly grass that infested the ground all around the small and run down camping trailer. The poor thing had been left to riot on an abandon piece of land after the owner had passed away and no one was willing to buy the land as it had little value being so far off from the neighboring towns. Yet, today a young woman had just purchased it and moved in. The look on her face was beyond happiness as she looked out over the small town in front of her and what seemed like a never ending forest behind her. This, for her, was the best of both worlds. She could be close to the nature she loved and close enough to a normal society that she’ll be able to integrate comfortably with enough privacy. She’d have to walk a decent bit every day to get anywhere, but hopefully she’ll learn how to drive and that wont be an issue. For now, just being here was enough.
With time on her hands Saturn would walk into the woods, taking time to explore her new surroundings. Her hands would casually brush each tree she’d pass, only pausing when she came across a cabin, more than likely even older than her new digs. She’d eye it suspiciously, but without even thinking about it she found herself pushing her face into the first window she came across. With The lights off she mostly saw her own reflection, which was nothing exceptional. She was average, except for her mess of choppy and unnaturally coloured green hair she was born with. A frown would mold itself onto her face, unsatisfied with her snooping, though a soft voice from behind, made her head jerk toward the source.
Shocked a small fairy-like creature started its slow flutter toward the cabin door completely ignoring her and as it passed and she couldn’t avoid the stench of alcohol wafting from it “Aidan..” the pixie size thing would call out as it knocked its teeny hand on the door. Saturn would step back, slipping behind the closest tree to her to watch this strange scene play out. “Iss’ me, Prebs” It would rattle on, continuing to knock clearly, getting annoyed that whoever lived there wasn’t appearing fast enough.
The door swung open abruptly, a man with messy dark hair and a rather annoyed expression plastered on his face stood a good food away from the door frame. The bags under his steely gray eyes were massive and clearly he had just been sleeping from the lack of shirt and sweatpants he was wearing. He was built, his muscular arms were folded close to his chest which was covered in a medley of scars and Saturn couldn’t help but to examine each one wanting to ask how they got there. “Whattya uptah.” the pixie creature spoke through a burp and fluttered inside, not at all being invited in. The door was left wide open and since they little man was so casual, Saturn sauntered in.
Being greeted by a wall of hunting trophies, she’d stop immediately as she came face to face with a deer head mounted on the wall at just her height. Staring into its fake glossy eyes, she’d feel a wave of sadness wash off her as her hand delicately began to rub the underside of its jawlin as though it were still alive enough to appreciate a little chin scratch. It wasn’t until she heard a very loud and directed throat clear that she’d look away from the dead animal and stare at the man who was almost looking through her. She knew it was reasonable to be weary of a stranger just waddling into your home and he should be uneasy about her, but if looks could kill..
She’d stiffen “uh, hiya.. I just moved into the trailer down the road and wanted to greet my new neighbor. “ Saturn would follow up her words with a smile doing her best to not look like a serial killer.
The fairy man started to flutter her way, his voice louder then before “Don’t yew go thinkin’ me mate be needin’ mowre buddies when he’s’ gotten me.” He was clearly trying to be threatening or angry but, because tomorrow was a full moon, Saturn couldn’t help the wave of emotions that consumed her. She felt so unwanted far too quickly and within an instant her lower lip would start to tremble and her eyes would water.
“I’m sorry. “ she’d say through puffed checks like a child. In one swift motion she’d turn to leave, but something tugging on her arm stopped her mid step. His grip was tight, but not at all rough and when she’d turn to look at the cabin’s owner he’d pull his hand back immediately to recross his arms.
“You're a little too calm to have seen Prebs, what are you?” He’d ask her bluntly, but his expression would soften slightly as his grip had broken the concentration the girl had been using to not cry and as soon as he finished speaking she’d start a full on ugly cry.
A hefty sigh would follow “Look.” and he’d open his mouth to show off his retractable fangs making Saturn shutter just a little, though her tears would upside quickly, more or less being overtaken by shock. Fae creatures were one thing, but blood sucking demons were another. The gears turning in her head would be almost visible as she thought about how to respond to the situation. She knew her emotions were winning, but vampire man didn’t seem like a threat even if his drunk little buddy was an ass.
“I.. Werewolf Druid. “ she’d mumble cautiously avoiding eye contact with either of them.
“That’s interesting. “ the man would say, a little surprised with a slightly amused expression. “Fine then, I’m Aiden. That’s Prebs. “
“Saturn.” She’d respond flatly through a soft little sniffle.
“Great, help this young lady back home. “ he’d nod toward Prebs. “I’d like to get back to sleep. “ he’d turn and wave the back of his hand at them.
“Oh wait. “ she’d call out a little too loud as Prebs had started tugging gently on a lock of her hair to usher her back outside. “I’m performing at Pattys Pub tonight.. If you have time, you should come. “ her words would come out too quickly. She wasn’t sure why she just invited this random vampire man to her first real singing event. Though he didn’t respond she was sure she could see him turn his head toward her with a faint smile just before being lead fully through the door.
