“I know I don’t have to.” Max reached for the door handle and pulled it open, clearly not willing to listen to her protests, “but I want to.” He gestured for her to enter, and with a small nod of gratitude, she did so, heading for the stairs at a pace that was slightly more rushed than normal. Max followed as Lexi tried to think of what she would’ve said to him at this juncture if whatever oddity had passed between them hadn’t taken place.
