Chapter Eleven Sunlight winked between slanted blinds as Max attempted to ignore both the growing daylight and the sounds of children playing downstairs. Facing the day wasn’t always all it was cracked up to be, and even before he opened one eye and interrogated the clock, he remembered how empty he’d felt crawling into bed the night before.
