Chapter 1 - Flutter's Cove
The wind zoomed through my long, curly Auburn hair. My feet made haste through Flutter's cove. Blood pumped viciously through my heart as my lungs drank the air quickly. My chocolate forehead laced with sweat and my verdant green eyes held terror. The huge ball of fire offered only scorching heat to punish its victims but my skin managed to sip some of the cool August air that mother nature provided. I couldn't waste any time as I had to warn my mother about the Lethal that broke the Golden Barrier. While everyone else had wings and other special abilities, like teleportation, to get them to their destination faster, I only had my two left feet. I was the only flutter in the cove that had no wings, It's one of the many reasons why everyone called me 'broken'. While everyone blossomed from their caterpillar stage, my growth spurt decided to ditch me and the only powers that I possess are earth powers. My mother used to say that I shouldn't worry because I might be a late bloomer. I used to believe her but I'm now nineteen years old and the latest bloomer in history. After a lot of self-reflection and bullying, I just accepted who I am, the wingless fae. My verdant eyes were filled with the flamboyant colours that the Flutters possessed. The Pixies, Faes, Fairies, and Sprites we're all a pleasure to the eyes. The Faes are the humanoid versions of the Fairies, We all looked like the elements that we control whether water, air, earth, or fire. Even our butterfly wings have the colour of our elements. As an elemental faery my body is painted in shrubs, mushrooms, pine cones, flowers, and rare leaves, it allows us to blend and keep ourselves safe from predators. Fairies are what the mundanes call Tinker Bell, they are about the size of my thumb and they possess one of the tree t's along with an elemental power. Their dragonfly wings are extremely delicate to touch but they are unbelievably beautiful, the ends of them always seem to seep a glitter liquid, and their fox-like eyes sparkle at the sun's light. These little critters are the guardians of our kind and are only seen for extremely important reasons. A Sprite's skin glows brighter than a thousand suns, their hair always appears silky soft and one could only imagine what it feels like. They are the only Flutters that possess the healing ability as a consequence their eyes are a dull milky white as if they are blind. Although it sounds creepy, they are always a sight to look at. Their bee-like wings are completely transparent, the only way of seeing them is the shimmers of the daylight. Pixies are the most picturesque of us all, instead of controlling elemental powers they control one of three t's, teleportation, telekinesis, or telepathy. Their skins glow the colour of the power and their feathered wings remind me of the most exotic birds a forest can muster. A radiant prism white belongs to teleportation, an amazing colour that looks like all the hues in a rainbow. The shape-shifting Mauve houses Telekinesis and Hazel represents Telepathy. Loud chatter beats only eardrums as the fluffy willow trees struggled to keep the Flutter's calm. Everyone was rushing inside their houses to barricade their doors and deal with other precautions for the Lethal's arrival. A large smile beamed from my pouty lips at the Amber wings that rushed in my direction. "Lavender, Why are you still outside? The Lethal is approaching!" My feet finally decided to rest not too far from my destination as my bright smile dispersed at my best friend's ignorance. My hands drew up into fists while blood trickled to my cheeks. My greens grew darker as I looked over her blueberry eyes, taut cheekbones, wavy wet hair, and crystal clear skin that housed her moist gills and grand frame. "Well I can't fly now can I?" Her face burned in embarrassment as her head bowed from my statement. Her wet wings flapped no longer as she stooped to my level, on the ground. "I'm sorry I forgot, let me help you," Her wet wings activated as she picked me up in a similar routine beginning my journey home. "Lavender! Karla! The Lethal is in Spynel Cove!" One of the Flutters bellowed. My eyebrows scrunched in confusion until my eyes lit with realization. "Mom!" My eyes are thick with tears as I can only imagine the danger that she's in. My flutter friend picked up speed, zooming past all the trees blessed with age and the winds that stopped to say hello. Flutter's Cove is divided into three sections, Garnet cove, which contains all pixies. Spynel cove that has all the faes and fairies and Golden cove where all the sprites live. Each section leads to the Lryn Tree, A huge feathery plant that casts the Golden Barrier separating Flutters from Forest Krynsín. This raged wildlife was created by Faires and the strongest forms of magic. Due to Lyrn's old age, the barrier grew weaker for the past few years and now it's weak enough for one of the most dangerous supernaturals from Krynsín Forest to pass through, The Lethal. A creature that wiped out almost all Flutters twenty years ago. Karla's wet wings made continuous haste towards my home until we finally strived on my mother's doorstep. My breaths came in quick huffs, the pearly white in my mouth chartered together as my palms got clammy. The place was deathly silent, with no form of life in its parts. "Mom?" I asked, walking into the eerily silent house. "R-run!" Someone screamed from the kitchen. My feet did the opposite, following the choked screams until my verdant caught sight of my mother being strangled by a Lethal. Her amber eyes accentuated her fiery mixed coloured hair, being red rooted blending into a violent orangish-yellow hue and having the tips a bright blue, like a bush fire. "Mom!" I made no pause, rushing towards her. My stomach sank at the sight as my heart skipped a few beats. Karla's face drained of colours as her eyes fluttered the warm tears away. I didn't make it far as the Lethal lost all attention for my mother and was focused on my panicked frame. I spun around quickly, running away. Karla's state of shock dispersed as she grabbed my arms and dashed for my room. However, this act of bravery was cut short as the 9ft tall monster's sharp claws grabbed her sensitive wings and hauled us both to the ground. Loud growls boomed from the Lethal as my eyes became sore from looking at his naturally burned skin, like a fire scorching a mundane. Its piercing Amber eyes glared at us as its onyx tongue licked at its b****y teeth. The 6 inches long claws that drooped from the even longer arms made contact with my chocolate skin. It burned, my skin felt like it was set on fire. Tears simmered down my cheeks as my body begged to pull closer towards the monster who captivated my feet or towards Karla's pull on my lanky arms. Its growls bellowed throughout the small house, angry at Karla's attempts at saving me. My mouth forced out a few earth spells and Karla's spewed water ones but they are both in vain as the Lethal only struggled to pull me closer. Quick footsteps echoed on the wooden floors from the kitchen until my mother's hot amber eyes, petite frame, and red locks ran around the corner. "Halexinious Ecouver!" Her hands that set out in front of her glowed a bright red until a powerful heatwave blasted from them, my face laced with instant sweat from the heat that filled every crevice of the room but left its harshest scorches to the beast in front of us. The creature's screeches had my skin crawling as it slowly disintegrated from the blow. Before it finally turned to ashes its long claws freed my feet and sang at my mother slicing right through her throat. My eyes widened at the sudden impact screaming out my mother's name as she fell to the floor with her stubby hands holding the blow. Karla and I rushed over to her petite form shaking her and giving her CPR. "Mom!" My mind was racing and the warm tears streamed down my face quickly like a waterfall. The tears dripped down my chin as my cloudy eyes looked at my maternal figure. Her amber hues opened as her lungs coughed out the carbon dioxide and viciously drank to oxygen to soothe the burn. "Mom, you're ok!" I said pulling her in for a hug. "Lavender!, Note! B-Bedroom! I love y-you" She managed to come out still holding her crimson neck until her breaths came in slower and slower. Her hues relaxed and her struggling stopped. "MOM!" I screamed, shaking her body. "NO MOM!" Karla pulled me into a hug with tears spewing freely from her eyes. "No! I- I could have saved her, It's all...it's all my fault! I didn't even get to tell her goodbye!" "No lavender, this isn't your fault, it was that thing's fault," Karla reassured."We all knew this day would happen after Ethos cursed her, she told me to tell you something important if this ever happens," she continued. "What?" My Verdants strayed from my mother's ambers and into Karla's Blueberries. The sorrow that wore her face had my tears rushing like a river down my raw face. She kept glancing at that mother figure that she had in her life and back at her offspring, desperately wiping the betraying tears off of her cheeks. "Ethos cursed you too, you will die on your twentieth birthday but only if you don't end the war between the Primal Four." My brows laced in confusion at her statement as I glanced at my Mother's lifeless form. Karla picked me up in my bedroom but my eyes remained in the direction of my mother still. The white room housed a white queen-sized bed, and equally white furniture including a dresser, bedside tables, and a n***d closet. The sun seeped through the tinted window glass that set to the backyard of my home. "I know this is a lot to take in, but you have to do this Lav, your birthday is in two months." A deeper shade of sparrow painted her face at the terrible news. "I-I can't lose you too. We have to retrieve the note that she left you. I know you want to stay with your mother and mourn but if we don't get going Ethos will come after you." My cries tenfold as Karla's brave face strained against the scared memory of my mother's death. My mind became foggy and my limbs grew weaker along with my unsteady breaths until my feet went limp and my eyes succumbed to total darkness. All my life I am known as the Broken Faery, So why on earth did the gods decide to make me, the wingless faery, solve the biggest war known in history to live? After the notes retrieval and bag packing, Kalra and I left the house and ventured towards the Krynsín forest. My cheeks were raw from the hour's crying and my body was drained of all energy. The old leaves crushed beneath our feet as the sun blazed onto our ebony skins. Karla's soft features were currently stone cold as she tried to be the anchor of us two. My mind could only remember memories of my birth giver. The times when we would cuddle up on our old couch and watch hours worth of Grey's Anatomy and discuss my day's events, or the time when she would teach me new incantations and let me practice in the magic room. When she would hold me whenever I cried and make my favourite fever grass tea, or when she would help me pick herbs for my new spell. Karla's stormy eyes glimpses over my weeping form and they softened out of sympathy, her bear frame pulled me in for an overdue hug, comforting me similarly to my mother. Our little cuddle was cut short as ear-shattering screams busted our eardrums. The flutters were flying around at incredible speeds all spewing some sort of magic at the Lethals. "Where are the Fairies!" At the mention, a bright light shimmered in the distance, the sun's rays were no match for the light that was short-lived until hundreds of thumb-sized flutters dashed for all the Lethals and killed them with their magic. Their sensitive wings glittered in the rays as they worked quickly to stop the Cove's distress and rushed to the Lyrn to try and strengthen the border. A harsh tug snapped my mind out of its thoughts as my eyes focused on Karla's, eyebrows laced with confusion and heart slamming against my ribcage. "We have to go now Lavender, If those Faeries strengthen the border, we can never leave this place and you will die." At the shocking news, my feet made haste towards the translucent border, it looked frail, dying but then a bright light blew over it and its lifeless form was no longer. "We need to leave now! Run faster!" My feet dived across the crunchy floor and headfirst through the barrier that Kalra already seemed to pass. My body landed with a loud thump on the crunchy floor. My body squeaked at the impact as I liked at the strengthened border. I got up off of my feet and towards the border that zapped electric bolts through my curious hands."It's strengthened."
