Lavender's P.O.V
Karla seemed tired and on edge, her hands were fidgeting and she was bouncing from one foot to the other. She was probably stressed from the constant running and now seeing me being encircled by a wild beast bound to no one might have been her breaking point. She knows about devil dogs, her mother, one of the guardians of Flutter’s Cove, talked about hunting them all the time for they are dangerous...or something along the line. I read somewhere that they are protectors even though I’ve never seen one in person until now. My eyes looked at the book that rests on my lap, scrolling through the pages at a rapid paste in search for the title “Lethals”. Of course, due to my terrible luck, when I scrolled to the page, it wasn't there. Bits of paper remained at the seam of the book, showing clear signs that the page has been torn out of its confines.
My eyebrows scrunched in confusion as I stared at the book, flipping the page after it to confirm that the page is indeed gone. In my frustration, I threw it on the ground. The Tin Man didn't move at all. He stood in the same spot but his eyes were trained on Demise. Narrowing ever so often whenever, Demise creeped closer toward a dumbstruck Karla. “L-Lavender- '' Suddenly a loud crash on the Library entrance door, had me standing on my feet. Demise immediately encircled me, bending her forepaws and extending her hind legs, ready for battle. She growled dangerously as she crawled slowly towards Karla who was equally shocked and already flying. Her beautiful blue wings glistened in the artificial light. She had her hands infront of her, her beautiful eyes glowing a subtle blue, ready to enchant a spell.
My hands were also in front of me as I slowly made my way around the corner, Demise long in front and Karla fluttering her way over. As I went around the corner, The first thing that I noticed was that natural light flowed into the room from the door that was ripped off its hinges and rested on the floor, the other was the huge claws that marked the door and finally was the deep screech that echoed throughout the library. “What's going on?” I whispered. “That's what I wanted to talk to you about Lav, Noxis have surrounded this building, they feast on faeries and have been awaiting you. Now it looks like one has made it inside. Kaizer is holding them off but we need to get out of here. The warm room felt cold, my hands wrapped around my chest in an attempt to warm me up as a huge surge of ice blasted through the open door.
The screeches became louder from the inside but the ugly floating creature with long sharp claws and equally sharp, yet crimson coloured teeth was approaching quickly. “I don't think that we can leave anytime soon Karla!” She nodded her head, ready to pick makeup but a loud growl from demise lauded her in her tracks. She lurched towards the Noxi, biting off its wrinkly hand in the process. The thing squealed in pain, swiping its long sharp claws at her but easily dodged the attacks, taking another bit at the thing’s hand. “Let’s go!” Karla pulled me further into the clean library, we traced our steps back to where the tin man was only to find the book that I had on the floor with a note inside. I quickly grabbed the book as the screeching came closer. It sounded nails on a chalkboard, sound waves hitting my eardrums spot on. My fingertips were purple from the bitterly freezing room. Karla’s wings failed to flutter as icicles slowly formed on them, changing the colour of her wings to a dull periwinkle. Her mouth was the same shade and even her eyelashes had little bits of ice on them. Our breaths exhaled foggy, the screeching became deeper and deeper. I could almost feel the Noxi’s claws sunken into my neck as it fed from me bit by bit. “What should we do?” I asked Karla.
“We should make a dome to protect us. You need to create one now Lav.” She ordered. If only she knew that creating a dome is not as easy as it sounds. A faery needs to use the elements around to create what she needs and considering a dome, I’d need a lot of rock. The only place where that is available is the ground. I bent slowly, closing my eyes, trying to connect with mother nature. It felt like time slowed. I could smell the dirt that swept the floors, the mold from the old books that climbed the twenty foot shelves not to mention the faint perfume that coated Karla’s clothing. I felt at one with the earth and so I began my incantation, touching the ground with the tips of my fingers. I crouched to the floor taking in a deep breath and it felt like I could see everything with my eyes closed, all from the vibrations of the moving objects. The screeches were closer than ever before and I could hear Karla’s breaths quicken, clearly uneasy with being hunted. I can hear her whispering an incantation of her own.
“Blokinious Lifevrio Ecouver!” I chanted. Suddenly, the ground breath started to snake before breaking apart. It began to lift when I lifted from the floor and by the time I stood up, so was the polished floor. Footsteps slapped the floor quickly along with Demise's growls. The screeches bellowed throughout the building, the room became dangerously cold indicating that the Noxi was approaching quickly. “Winferio Stripandino!” Karla shouted. A powerful vapour blow swept through the room in search of the Noxi. My hands were at their highest before pulling apart from each other, breaking the rocks in multiple pieces before I reformed the pieces into a large oval with enough space for Karla and I to hide under. Demise was getting closer, I could feel the vibrations of her steps approaching quickly. Now I could only hope that Demise was the one to side us first, before I set this dome in place.
