Chapter 14

1692 Words
After that stolen kiss and love confession Helena did to Victoria, she didn’t hear from her anymore. She doesn’t answer her calls and even her messages. It seems like she didn’t exist anymore to her. She wants to go to her office but decided not to. She doesn’t want to make a scene there. She told herself that she will wait for a week. If nothing happens then she will stop expecting. It seems like her heart's piercing with pain. It’s hard for her to accept but she can’t do anything about it. She chose to confess it to her even though she knew the consequences of it. If Victoria chose to avoid her, she can’t do anything. After all, she’s a married woman and also straight. She can’t blame her. It’s Helena’s fault also because she already knew but she still pursued it. Helena became so lethargic. At work, she’s not as lively as before. Even Valerie felt it. Some customers that are always going in the restaurant felt it and complained. “Helena, can I talk to you?” Valerie asks her while she’s busy in the sellar. “Yes. Why?” “Do you have a problem?” “No.” She answered shortly. She doesn’t want to look at her because if she does, Valerie immediately knows she’s not okay. Valerie knows her and she can’t lie to her. “Helena!” Valerie insisted and stopped her from what she was doing. “I am fine, Val.” She also insists. She keeps on doing her things. Valerie grabs her paper to stop her. She feels annoyed because it seems like she doesn’t want to tell her what’s bothering her. “Can you stop it?! Customers are complaining about how you do your work. So tell me what’s the problem!” She raised her voice slightly. “If you don’t want to tell me as your friend, tell me as your boss.” Helena stops. She doesn’t know what to say to her. She doesn’t want to tell her that it’s because of her sister. She’s sure that she will get mad at her or even become her enemy. She tried to act as normal as possible. “Val, I'm okay. It’s just that my period is coming.” She lied. “Don’t lie to me.” “I am not lying. It’s just my mood.” She upheld her lie. Valerie is not convinced with what she said. She looked at her and examined her face. Helena looks her in the eyes like the way she looks at her to convince her more. “You know that I am always here if you need something or if you want someone to listen.” She’s finally convinced. “I know, Val. And thank you for your care. Don’t worry about me, I am fine.” She gets the paper from Valerie and continues what she’s doing. After Valerie left, she closed her eyes and let out a deep sigh. She has to be strong and don’t be so affected. If Victoria avoids her, it’s for her own good. No married woman will going to ruin her marriage just for a lesbian like her. Few days have passed. No messages or no calls from Victoria. Even from work related things, it’s transferred by her secretary. She didn’t see her either. It seems like she’s really avoiding her. It hurts her more that she avoids her. No calls or messages are fine with her but avoiding her even at work seems so hard for her. Few weeks is enough. If she doesn’t want to talk to her or to even see her, fine! That’s too much. Helena decided to move on with her life. She juggles her time in Valerie's restaurant and her work at Victoria’s company. Most of the time she’s in Valerie, the restaurant. After that few weeks, she came to her normal self. Being so jolly with customers and being such a perfectionist. She became happy again with the help of her work. Valerie also saw it. For Victoria, it’s a total mess in her mind and feelings. That kiss and confession of Helena struck her so hard. It doesn’t go away from her mind. She still feels the soft lips of Helena to hers. It still makes her heart thump so fast. It’s like an excited feeling. But it’s not right. Not right at all. But in her heart, it feels wonderful most especially when Helena told her she loves her. It seems like she can still hear it fresh in her ears. But she decided to let her. She doesn’t want that to be the reason that her marriage will be broken. What will her husband think? She doesn’t want Cedrick to be hurt because of her personal feelings or her feelings. Or maybe that feeling is an infatuation towards Helena. What will her father say or react? No. Not right at all. Avoiding her is the best thing she can do. She read all those messages from Helena asking her to have a talk and telling her to forget what she said. Tons of messages and calls. In those few weeks, no matter what she does, she still thinks of Helena. Sometimes her mind is occupied by the thought of her. She cannot work nor concentrate. Even Cedrick feels that she is being distant and always occupied. If Cedrick works a lot, she too works more than ever. Cedrick is already getting worried. While they are in bed one night, Cedrick asks her how she is. She answered she’s fine while lying on her side facing the wall. Cedrick moves closer to her and hugs her from behind. “Are you sure, Honey?” Ge whispered in her ear. “Mmm- hmmmm.” She answered and tapped his arm. “It seems like something is bothering you.” “Maybe work? I am fine, hon. Don’t worry about me.” She lied. The truth is that she is thinking about Helena. It’s hard for her to avoid her. She wants to talk to her. She wants to see her and be with her. Is this love or longing? She is questioning herself too. Cedrick is not convinced. There is something bothering his wife. He doesn’t know about it but he is very sure that there is something. “Let me know if something is wrong, okay?” “Yes, Hon.” Because he can’t get an answer to her, he decided to let her sleep and go back to his side of the bed. He gives her a quick glance before tucking himself up. It was a lingering pain of missing someone. After a few weeks, she never heard from Helena anymore. Maybe she became tired and gave up because she too is not talking to her. Victoria cannot take it anymore. She wants to see Helena. She doesn’t know how. She doesn’t know what the consequences are but she wants to see her or talk to her. She longs for her. She tried to call her from her mobile phone but she was blocked. Knowing that Helena blocked her, gives an unexplainable pain in her heart. She wants to cry. She wants to cry because she never expected Helena to do that to her. She also uses her office phone to call her but it is also blocked. She felt anxious. She carried her bag and decided to go to her work place, in Valerie. She didn’t think about her sister being there. She wants to talk to Helena and she will do that no matter what. When she arrived at the restaurant, she was not there. The staff told her that she went out of town with Valerie to check for a place for the new restaurant. So she doesn’t have a choice not to go back to her office. When she arrived, she asked her Secretary to call Helana but to her surprise, she already resigned from their company. “When? Why didn't you tell me?” Her voice became high. She felt even anxious. “It’s from HR, ma’am and also we already have a new Sommelier. She was hired just yesterday. So she decided to cut her out of her life. That fast? Why didn't she even wait for her? Why is it so easy for her? She’s been suffering from missing her while she goes out of town and worst, she even resigned from the company. Is her confession even legit? Because she avoided Helena, the other one gave up but now that she decided to talk to her, she’s not to be seen. The only way she can talk to her is by Valerie. At first, she doubted if she would do it. She’s been thinking about how she will answer Valerie's questions. She’s sure she asks a lot of questions on why Helena is avoiding her. But she wants to talk to her. She dialled Valerie’s phone number. Just in a few seconds, her sister answers. “Hello, sis!” “Hello, Val. How are you? Where are you?” She asks. “I am out of town. Me and Helena are looking for a new place for the new restaurant. Why?” Valerie also wonders why she calls her. Helena is also busy talking to her parents on the phone. “Nothing much. I just want to ask if Helena is with you but it seems like she is with you.” “Yeah. She’s been with me since yesterday.” She turned to Helena. “My sister is asking about you.” She mumbled. Helena just smiled and continued talking to her parents. “She’s busy talking to her parents. Why?” “Can you tell her to meet me tomorrow? I will give you the address, tell her for me.” To avoid Valerie from suspecting, she turned the call off immediately and texted the address. Valerie on the other hand didn’t suspect anything happening between the two. She forwarded the message to Helena. The question now is if Helena will meet her.
