Caterina

6 a.m. alarm rings loudly and wakes up Caterina from a deep sleep. "Oh, not again!"- she mutters bitterly. This girl loved to sleep in, but unfortunatly with the school and the two jobs she was doing, it was impossible. She puts her feet on the floor searching for her fluffy slippers. The shift in the local café bar is about to start in thirty minutes; here in Greenland, everyone was an early riser. Cate gets up and goes to the bathroom to shower quickly. After she finished everything she needed, it was time to choose her outfit for today. Caterina opens her little closet and sighs as always. Every piece of clothing she owned was black. She chooses black turtleneck jumper with black high waisted jeans. She loooks herself in the mirror. It is not that black doesn't look good on her, but Cate loves colours. She would kill to be able to wear a white t-shirt for a change. Looking herself in the mirror, she gets depressed everytime. Her hair is raven black, naturally curly and it falls over all the way to her back. Her eyes are a special shade of green, kinda like emeralds. High cheekbones, thin lips, three, four freckles... Some features she liked, some not. Especially her wide hips and round bottom. "Argh!"- Cate grunts trying to fit her curves in jeans. When she finishes, she puts a touch of lipgloss on her lips ( as lipgloss was only piece of make up she was allowed to use). She runs down the stairs hoping mother will be awake, but dissapointment fills her heart when she sees the dark in the kitchen. They didn't see each other for almost two weeks already, mother always worked untill late or whole night. She promised her on the phone that they would drink coffee together this morning... Caterina puts on her warm black puff jacket, scarf, gloves, a hat and of course the boots. Then she takes the bag and the car keys and runs out, because it is 6.20. am already. She arrives exactly in time to put apron on and to start filling cups with a fresh coffee. "Cate, don't worry, I covered for you."- her best and only friend says with a wink. " Thanks, Lizzy. It was soo hard to get up this morning. I'm so f*****g depressed in this shitty town!"- she says quietly to her friend. "Oh, hun! I'd be depressed too if I was wearing black every f*****g day."- she adds. They laugh at the same time. Lizzy was a blonde girl, with a great sense of humour. They have been bestfriends since forever. " You know my mum is ridicolusly strict with her rules. I don't want to make her sad."- Cate says. Lizzy rolles her eyes and prepares another cappuccino. "Your mum is abusive towards you. She doesn't make your brothers wear black clothes, am I right?"- she pokes her friend. She wanted her to wake up from a nightmare she was living in. Lizzy felt such a repel towards Cates mum, it was like a woman was a witch full of negative energy. "I know, Liz. She says that there is a reason for that and she is just trying to keep me safe."- Cate says trying to defend her mother. But, sometimes, she would forget why she should defend her. Caterina will be 18 years old in one week. She had to wear everything black, couldn't go out with friends, had to dye her naturally red hair in black, couldn't put any make up on, she had to cook everyday dinner, clean the house, not talk with strangers... There were so many rules she had to obey, she didn't even remember all of them. The only thing she knew was, mother would punish her if she didn't do things her way. So, this jobs and school were only escape for her. "Hell,no. I don't believe this s**t. I give up."- Lizzy throws away the cloth at Cates face. "Commone, Liz!"- she angrily yells. "Why don't we take a little break,hmm?"- Lizzy asks amusingly. Cate knows that they will secretly go on a smoke break so she instinctively says to their boss Roger: " Hey, Roger! We will back in five, ok?" Roger shows one thumb up. He was not very talkative , but he always let them take the breaks. They run outside trough the back door giggling. Lizzy pulls out a cigarette, gives one to Cate and they turn them on with a lighter they stole from some truck driver. "You know, it's interesting. My mum can really be a b***h sometimes, but she doesn't care that I smoke."- Cate says exhaling a smoke. " That's because she doesn't care about you, bestie. When will you realize that?"- Lizzy asks her sincerely. Caterina just keeps looking in the distance wondering why they live in the coldest country on earth. If she could choose, she would love to live somewhere where is warm all year. "Do you listen to me?"- Lizzy repeats. "Excuse me. I was daydreaming for a second."- Cate timidly says. " Well... talking about daydreaming. Are you still having "bad" dreams about that sexy guy with a long, black hair?" - Liz asks dreamily. Caterina trembles from the cold and throws the cigarette. "I didn't dream of him for quite some time to be honest."- she says sadly. "Look, I was thinking. It's really strange that you dream of that man. We should see if he is like a real person, you know. "- Lizzy says. Cate listened to her carefully, but she knew that he was just the fruit of her imagination. He was not real. " Let's go back to work, shall we?"- Cate asks going back into the kitchen . "Okay, my friend. But, honestly, don't you desire him taking you from behind?"- she says jokingly and slaps her friends ass with a cloth. Caterina giggles with her and winks her back. She always laughed when she felt embaressed. This was no exepction, naturally. She barely kissed a guy couple of times, when she sneaked out of the window to go out on a date. But, she was still a virgin. Her mum always said she should save herself for her husband and Caterina liked that thought. It was just getting very hard to keep that promise, seeing how she felt after the dreams about a strange, sexy man. She even gave him a name that suited him perfectly, he was wild and made her feel stuff she never felt before, so she called him ... the Beast.
