Herrith felt as though the earth had suddenly become unsteady, as he saw Isika for the first time since she was a young child. He stood beside his horse, knowing that now the world would come to pieces; it was crashing in on him. Surely King Ikajo would sense his guilt, standing close to him, gazing at his daughter as well. The girl sat tall on a horse that somehow didn’t run away from the mighty power of the king, which shouldn’t have been possible. Their own horses had to be brought up near to the king, to get used to his power, which frightened animals and children. Even then, they had spells laid over them by the stable magicians. But there Isika sat on a horse that seemed calm and in its right mind, not ensnared by spells.
