Elijah had made one mistake.
He had fallen out of his chair.
And his brothers were never going to let him forget it.
“So graceful,” Trey said.
Elijah glared at him.
“I hate you.”
Will leaned against the table.
“You hit the floor pretty hard.”
Remi covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.
Del wasn’t even trying.
“You should’ve seen your face.”
Elijah pointed at her.
“You’re supposed to be on my side.”
“I am.”
Del smiled.
“That’s why I’m enjoying this.”
Rae sat on the counter eating another cheese stick.
“I give the landing a nine.”
Elijah stared at her.
“A nine?”
“You lost points for the lack of a dramatic roll.”
Trey burst out laughing.
Elijah shook his head.
“You’re all terrible.”
Will’s mouth twitched.
“You fell out of a chair because you were laughing.”
“I was laughing at Rae.”
Rae pointed at him.
“Exactly.”
“That doesn’t make sense.”
“It makes perfect sense.”
Remi laughed.
“You know, I think this might be the happiest I’ve seen you all since I came back.”
Will’s eyes immediately found hers.
The warmth returned.
That pull.
Stronger.
He felt the bond tug toward her.
Mate.
He forced himself to look away.
Across the room, Trey was still watching Rae.
She was laughing at something Del had said when Trey reached for the pizza box at the exact same moment Rae reached for it.
Their fingers touched.
Both froze.
Rae’s smile disappeared.
Trey went completely still.
A strange warmth rushed through Rae’s hand.
Then—
A voice echoed inside her head.
Well, hello there.
Rae blinked.
She looked around the room.
Nobody had spoken.
The voice chuckled.
You can hear me, can’t you?
Rae slowly looked at Trey.
His eyes widened.
“What?”
Rae stared at him.
“Your wolf is talking to me.”
Silence.
Trey’s jaw dropped.
Will straightened.
Elijah stopped laughing.
Remi looked between them.
Del’s eyes widened.
Trey whispered,
“What did he say?”
Rae’s lips twitched.
“He introduced himself.”
Trey’s face went pale.
“He what?”
Rae looked directly at him.
“He said his name is—”
She paused dramatically.
“Apparently, he’s much smarter than you.”
Elijah immediately started laughing.
Trey groaned.
“Of course he did.”
Rae suddenly giggled.
Not her usual sarcastic laugh.
A genuine, delighted giggle.
Trey stared at her.
“What?”
Rae shook her head.
“Your wolf is hilarious.”
Trey looked offended.
“My wolf is hilarious?”
“He said you’re stupid.”
Elijah nearly lost it again.
Will actually laughed.
Remi covered her mouth.
Del leaned against the table, grinning.
Trey looked like he’d just been betrayed by his own body.
“My wolf said that?”
Rae nodded.
Then she heard the voice again.
She’s beautiful.
Rae’s eyes widened.
The wolf continued.
Our beautiful chaos mate.
Rae burst into laughter.
Trey froze.
“What did he say?”
Rae could barely get the words out.
“He called me…”
She giggled again.
“His beautiful chaos mate.”
Trey’s expression changed.
His wolf was suddenly very quiet.
But Trey could feel him.
Proud.
Happy.
Certain.
Mate.
Trey stared at Rae.
The teasing disappeared from his face.
“So…”
His voice was softer.
“You heard him?”
Rae nodded.
“I heard everything.”
Trey took a slow breath.
“And?”
Rae smiled.
“I think your wolf has better taste than you do.”
Trey grinned.
“There she is.”
Rae rolled her eyes.
But she couldn’t hide her smile.
Del looked at Remi.
“Well…”
Remi nodded.
“That’s definitely new.”
Elijah folded his arms.
“So Trey gets a wolf that can talk to Rae.”
Will looked at him.
“And you fell out of a chair.”
Elijah glared.
“Are we really going back to that?”
“Yes,” everyone said together.
Elijah groaned.
Rae laughed again.
And Trey couldn’t stop looking at her.
Because his wolf had finally said the words Trey had been trying not to think about.
Mate.
And Rae had heard him.
Not only heard him…
She liked him.
The invisible bond between them tightened.
Rae felt warmth spread through her chest.
Trey felt it too.
Across the room, Del suddenly shivered.
Elijah noticed.
“You okay?”
Del looked at him.
“Yeah.”
She smiled faintly.
“Just felt that pull again.”
Elijah’s expression softened.
“Me too.”
Will glanced toward Remi.
Their eyes met.
The bond between them answered immediately.
Three connections.
Three pairs.
Growing stronger by the minute.
But Rae was still smiling.
Because somewhere inside Trey, his wolf had apparently decided that she was exactly what he wanted.
Beautiful.
Chaotic.
And his.
Rae shook her head.
“Your wolf is ridiculous.”
Trey grinned.
“You’re laughing.”
“I am.”
She looked at him.
“I’m starting to like him.”
Trey’s wolf practically purred.
And Rae heard him clearly.
I like you too, beautiful chaos.
She burst into another fit of giggles.
Trey groaned.
“Oh, this is going to be a long life.”
Rae smiled.
“You have no idea.”
And for the first time, Trey realized something.
His mate wasn’t afraid of his wolf.
She could hear him.
She could understand him.
And somehow…
She thought their bond was funny.
His wolf was already completely smitten.
Beautiful chaos.
And Trey knew he was in serious trouble.
