Chapter 3: Fragments of Memory

401 Words
I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window. For a moment, I forgot where I was and what had happened. But as I sat up and looked around, memories came flooding back. The hospital room, Alex's kind face, the pack's curious stares. I rubbed my temples, trying to ward off the headache that was brewing. I had so many questions, but every time I tried to remember something, my mind went blank. Alex came in with a tray of breakfast, and I smiled weakly at him. "Hey," he said, setting the tray down in front of me. "How are you feeling today?" I shrugged, taking a sip of the coffee he had brought me. It was strong and bitter, just the way I liked it. But as I looked at Alex, I realized that I didn't even know if I liked coffee. Did I? I had no idea. "Alex, can I ask you something?" I said, feeling a surge of frustration. "Of course, Lily," he replied, his eyes locked on mine. "Do you think I'll ever remember anything?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Alex's expression turned thoughtful, and he sat down beside me on the bed. "I don't know, Lily," he said, his voice soft and reassuring. "But we'll do everything we can to help you recover your memories. Okay?" I nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Alex. He was being so kind and patient with me, and I appreciated it. As we finished breakfast, I noticed something strange. A fragment of memory, fleeting and unclear. I saw a flash of dark hair, a pair of piercing blue eyes. It was a face, but I couldn't quite place it. "Alex, I think I remembered something," I said, my heart racing with excitement. Alex's eyes locked on mine, and he leaned in close. "What is it, Lily?" he asked, his voice low and urgent. I closed my eyes, trying to grasp the memory. But it slipped away, leaving me with nothing. "I don't know," I said, feeling a surge of frustration. "It was just a face. I don't know who it was or where I saw them." Alex's expression turned thoughtful, and he nodded. "It's okay, Lily," he said. "We'll keep working on it. Okay?" I nodded, feeling a sense of determination. I was going to remember my past, no matter what it took.
