I watched Lily sleep, her chest rising and falling with each gentle breath. She was still a mystery to me, a puzzle I couldn't quite solve. But as I looked at her, I couldn't shake the feeling that I knew her.
It was a strange sensation, like déjà vu. I felt like I'd seen her before, like we'd met in another life. But that was impossible. I would have remembered meeting someone like Lily.
As I sat beside her, I noticed the way her hair curled slightly at the nape of her neck. It was a small thing, but it seemed familiar. I felt like I'd seen that curl before, like I'd touched it before.
I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. I was just being ridiculous. I didn't know Lily, not really. But as I looked at her, I couldn't help but feel a sense of connection.
When Lily woke up, I was struck by her beauty. Her eyes sparkled in the morning light, and her smile was like a ray of sunshine. I felt my heart skip a beat as she looked at me, her eyes locking onto mine.
"Hey," she said, her voice soft and husky.
"Hey," I replied, trying to sound casual. But I couldn't help the way I felt. I was drawn to Lily, like a moth to a flame.
As we talked, I realized that Lily was still struggling to remember her past. She had fragments of memories, but nothing concrete. I felt a surge of protectiveness towards her, a desire to help her uncover the truth.
But as we talked, I also realized that I was hiding something from her. I was hiding the fact that she was my mate, that I'd known it from the moment I'd seen her. But I was scared to tell her, scared of scaring her off.
I didn't know how much longer I could keep it inside. But for now, I was content to just be near her, to watch her and learn from her.
As we finished breakfast, I reached out and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. It was a gentle touch, but it sent shivers down my spine.
Lily looked up at me, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Alex?" she said, her voice soft.
I smiled, trying to play it cool. "Yeah?"
Lily's eyes locked onto mine, and I felt like she could see right through me. "You seem... familiar," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
I felt my heart skip a beat as I looked at her. Familiar? That was exactly how I felt about her.
But I just smiled and shrugged. "Maybe we just have one of those faces," I said, trying to sound casual.
Lily nodded, but I could tell she wasn't convinced. And neither was I.
As we spent the day together, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. I was hiding something from Lily, and I knew it was only a matter of time before she discovered the truth.
But for now, I was content to just be near her, to watch her and learn from her. And maybe, just maybe, I could find a way to tell her the truth without scaring her off.
