Chapter1
“Luciana, I need to take a shower and head home”. Killian said, “Alright, see you tomorrow”. Luciana replied with a perk on his cheek. They both hugged and went their separate ways. The last words my brother said to me the day I left to study abroad were easy, short, and honest. Killian said in his thoughts as water flowed into his body from the shower. In his words, “Listen, you don't need to study hard. Don't learn English if you can't be bothered to. Just have fun there, don't worry or think too much. Illegitimate children from rich families are supposed to waste their lives instead of having dreams. And if possible, don't ever come back”. That was when I realized I was being exiled to the US rather than being sent to study abroad. I learned that my brother was trying to claim what I might take from him in the future. Killian kept reminiscing about his ordeal with his brother while taking a sip from his cup of coffee at a coffee shop with a friend before he got distracted by a waitress. “Do you want more?” She asked. “Yes I do” he replied. “I know what your thoughts are right now. It's about your family, right?” Duncan asked, and Killian nodded in agreement. “You don't blame them? Your brother who hates you, your mother who gave birth to you, or your father who never takes your side”. Duncan said firmly Looking outside the framed glass wall and observing the sun, Killian said in his thoughts," I’m too lazy to resent anyone. … A hard smack was made as Isaac continuously threw a tennis ball at a student in an empty classroom in front of his friends. “Hey, buddy. What are you going to do during vacation? Gosh, we've been seeing each other every day at school. I am going to miss not having you around”. He said as he picked up the tennis ball. “What's wrong? Won't you miss me? Don't you think you're being too cold? He asked continuously as he threw the ball at the student. “Ah”. The student shouted in distress. “Gosh, I'm sorry”. Isaac said as he laughed. “Did I hurt you? He asked as he kept on laughing. “Isaac, that was a bad pitch. You should be careful. Someone might think we're bullying him”. Stephan said sarcastically as they all laughed. “Really? Then how about you standing there?” Isaac asked Stephan in a low yet angry mood. “What?” Stephan exclaimed in disbelief. “Stand by the wall”. Isaac replied, “Hey, what's wrong with you?” Elijah asked Isaac. “Do you want to take his place?” Isaac replied Elijah, staring sternly at him. “Fine, I'll go”. Stephan scoffs “I'll stand by the wall. Throw the ball”. Stephan said to Isaac as he smiled. “I never said I'd throw the ball. Friends need to keep things fair”. Isaac said to Stephan. “Hey buddy, it's your turn now. Here you go”. He said throwing the tennis ball at the student. “Isaac,” he called in fear as he received the ball. “Yes, I know. You'll get beaten up whether you throw the ball or not. It's just a matter of whether you'll get beaten up by the stronger one or the weaker one. But the bigger problem is that your life will continue to be like this. Do you know why? That's because we’ll end up becoming your bosses in the future. Go ahead and choose”. Isaac declared Isaac’s words sent cold shivers down the student's body and his hands shook vigorously. “Ah”…… He yelled as he threw the tennis ball at the mirror. They all laughed at his reaction as his yelling fell on dismissive ears. “Are you crazy? Are you nuts?” Elijah asked, grabbing his shirt and pushing him over the wall. “So you're poor, but you still wish to protect your pride? Just protect your body. Get to your senses”. Isaac said, smiling darkly. “Hey, being healthy is the best thing. My gosh, I'm going to run away because I'm scared. I'll see you when school starts. I hope you have a great vacation. See you”. He said as he stood up, grabbed his bag, and walked out of the classroom, signaling his friends to beat the student up. … “Muffler, racing kit, seat, handle, and headlights. I installed everything the way you asked me to. All the components were expensive and hard to get. I had to get all of them from overseas”. Mr. Smith said showing Isaac the new bike design he made for him. “I am sure you've pocketed the commission”. Isaac declared firmly. “Gosh, I'll never do that with our regulars. I also replaced the cam chain tensioner for you”. Mr Smith replied, “It's not like you did it for free, is it?” Isaac asked. “No, that's not what I meant”. Mr Smith replied, “Your chicken is here,” Claire said as she rushed into the workshop. “You can put it over there”. Mr Smith replied, pointing toward the direction the chicken should be kept. “Hey, pay her for the chicken”. He said to his boys at the workshop “Okay”. One of his boys replied “It’s 1,837 yen”. Claire said to his boys. “What’s with the 37 yen? Is that for your snack?” The boys said collectively. “Here’s your cash, give me the bills”. She replied sternly “Gosh, you’re clever. Are you a college student?” They asked. “The receipt is on the box”. Claire said firmly. “When do you finish your job? Should I take you for a ride?” One of the boys asked “No, just give me the money”. She said sharply. “Gosh, don’t be so cold. I’ll go pick you up”. He replied, Claire sighed heavily, reached out into her pocket, took out her phone, and dialed a number. “Hello, I'm a college student doing a part-time job”. She said as she placed the phone on her ear. “Hey, who are you calling?” They asked. “The police”. She replied, “What?” They exclaimed in fear. “Yes, a couple of older guys keep asking me………….” She was still talking when the phone was taken from her by one of the boys “Gosh, we were just joking around. Here is 2,500 yen, you can keep the rest”. They said out of fear “Enjoy your chicken”. She replied by grabbing the money and her phone and running off. As she ran off, Isaac raised his eyes, gazing at her and wondering who she was, as he admired her. … “Welcome, what would you like to order?” Claire asked her customers, standing behind the counter at her workplace. “Two lemonades, please” they replied. “Two lemonades coming right up”. She said in a low tone. “I'll take over,” her colleague said to her, grabbing the cups. “Okay, thanks a lot” she replied as she served other customers. Claire walked tiresomely to the reception, as she approached her friend Simon, sitting and flipping through the pages of his book. “When did you get here?” she asked. “It's been about 30 minutes''. He replied with a grin on his face. “You were here for 30 minutes without ordering anything? My boss needs to make money, you know.” “I'll order when Tracy comes. She's almost here”. “My gosh, this isn't the only cafè in Tokyo, why do you always hang out……..” She continued but was interrupted by Simon pointing an umbrella at her. “What,” She asked, gazing at the umbrella pointed at her “It’ll start raining by the time you finish work”, Simon replied. Claire chuckled, grabbed the umbrella, and sat down. “Then what about your girlfriend?” She asked. “Tracy deserves to be treated like a lead role in a movie”, Simon replied. “My gosh,” Claire said irritatedly. “You should start dating someone,” Simon said. “That's absurd. I can't afford to spend my time doing anything other than making money”. Claire said firmly. “Don't you think you work way too much?” Simon asked. “I have no other choice. Working part-time jobs is the only way I can survive”. Claire replied with sadness in her voice. Suddenly, a voice called out to Simon in an angry tone. “Simon, stop looking at her”.
