The Rain Between Us
The Rain Between Us Aarav never believed in love at first sight until the day he saw Maya standing near the old library window. Rain was falling outside, and she was quietly reading a book while the world around her moved in noise and hurry. There was something calm about her, something that made him stop walking for a moment. The next day, he saw her again in the same place. This time, he gathered the courage to speak. “Do you always read during the rain?” he asked with a nervous smile. Maya looked up and laughed softly. “Only when I want to forget the world.” That single conversation became the beginning of something beautiful. Days turned into weeks, and soon they started meeting every evening after college. Sometimes they talked for hours, and sometimes they simply sat together in silence, watching the sunset paint the sky orange. Aarav loved how Maya noticed small things — the sound of birds, the smell of wet soil, the shape of clouds. Maya loved how Aarav always listened carefully, as if every word she spoke truly mattered. One evening, Maya confessed something. “I’m scared of getting attached to people,” she said quietly. “Everyone leaves eventually.” Aarav looked at her seriously and replied, “Then I’ll stay.” For the first time in years, Maya believed someone. But life was not as simple as their promises. A few months later, Maya’s father got transferred to another city. The news broke both of them from inside. Their last evening together felt heavier than the rain clouds above them. At the railway station, Maya tried to smile, but tears filled her eyes. “Maybe some stories are not meant to last forever,” she whispered. Aarav held her hand gently. “Real love doesn’t end because of distance.” The train slowly began to move. Maya looked at him through the window until he disappeared from sight. Years passed. One rainy afternoon, Aarav entered the same old library. And there she was — standing near the window with a book in her hands, exactly like the first day they met. Maya smiled softly. “Do you still believe in love at first sight?” Aarav walked closer and replied, “I believed in it once. Now I believe in love that survives time.” Outside, the rain continued to fall, but this time, neither of them felt alone.
