Chapter 7

617 Words
The person on the other side of the glass was no other than Seth Bowers himself. She knew he couldn't see her, but she could still see him and that made all the difference. She had propped herself up against a wall, back turned towards the person she once considered a friend. She was glad he couldn't see through the two way mirror like they were able to. Shannon had resisted the urge to come up to Nadia, to comfort her as she once had. Instead, she held up two blue cards. Two blue emotion cards. They were one of the most costly of the cards, and for good reason. They gave you as much emotional freedom as you wished. “ We found him with these. " Shannon-- General Lee, spoke. It was General Lee in the workplace and when discussing work. Confusion gripped at the girl before she came to the realization, he was working with the government. Of course, he would have a card that would grant him immunity, but that didn't explain why there were two. “ Why two? " She murmured quietly to herself, gears just starting to shift in her head before the General answered her question. “ We were hoping you could answer that. “ She was lead to an interrogation room of her own. Nadia eyed the room, disliking it for bringing back the memories of the first time she was there. She slumped in her designated chair, arms crossed over her chest lightly as she stared into the glass, wondering who all were on the other side. It wasn't long until General Lee joined her, setting down a picture of Seth in front of the girl. “ You know him. " It wasn't a question, more as a statement. As if she didn't have to guess that Nadia knew Seth, she already knew. “ Uh, yeah. We used to be friends. " Best friends. She corrected herself silently. “ Used to be? Why the split? " Lee was questioning the girl as what sounded like a friend. . .which would make anyone trust her. Spill anything to her, believing that they would be fine, even with the sins they had confessed. Her green eyes met the other's hazel ones. “ I found out he was working for the government. " That was her downfall. Shannon nodded, standing up. “ Nadia Kingsman, you are under arrest for affiliation with the Government. You have the right to remain silent anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking with anyone else and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you. “ Nadia laughed bitterly. She was under arrest. Just how Seth would be in some time. Arrested, despite the help she's given. She also found it ironic that the General read her, her rights after questioning her. “ Rusty, are we General? I thought rights were read before the questioning. " She was digging a deeper hole for herself. Nadia knew that. But she had already broken one of her rules, why not break another? She had responded with emotion instead of logic. Let emotion rule this one. Save the logic for tomorrow. So, she was dragged away, laughing at the irony of everything. Seeing her friend's shocked faces as they passed them just fueled the crazy fire. Laughter at the irony. Laughter at the disbelief. Just laughter in general. Crazy to make sure she wasn't crazy. Such a strange human thing. They were all such strange human things.
