It was two weeks already, and there were no signs of Maya. Each second, Ifound myself stealing glances at her door, hoping that she would show upand tell me that she was back from her long break. But then, with each day that passed, it became clear that she meant it whenshe said that she wasn’t working at the company anymore.A deep sigh escaped my lips as I slouched deeper into the chair and dug myhands into my hair. I felt so frustrated and was a way I never believed I would feel.Did I miss her? Or was I beginning to think of her because she mentioned that she was carrying my child?I had no idea of what the reason behind how I felt was, but I could swear that I wasn’t getting myself.“Have you tried placing a call across to her? Tell her that she still has herspot here if it pleases her, but it would be expiring if she doesn’t show uptoday”, I instructed the head of recruitment, but he returned with a smallfrown on his face.“She must have blocked our office line. We can’t get to her on call”, heexplained to me and I sighed in despair. My eyes glanced to the clock and back at my phone just as I tried to figureout what next to do.I could easily make my way to her apartment since I knew where she lived, but thoughts of that sent cold shivers down my spine. This was good news in disguise, though. Even if I was a difficult person, Icouldn’t deny the fact that I was finally getting one thing I’ve desired allthese while. All the women I had an affair with never gave me a child and that wasbeginning to get me depressed. But then, Maya was carrying my child?A small smile curved on my lips as I folded my hands to my chest andswirled the chair in a circular motion. That was one thing I usually did whenever I got so excited.“I should go see her”, I finally said to myself as I jerked to my feet and walked out of the company. It was quite strange to see that I made my way out of the company by this time because I always waited until closing hours. However, there was a desire to meet with Maya and I couldn’t waitfor any more minutes. After driving for a while, I arrived at her driveway and parked my car.Memories of that night where I got drunk came flowing back into my mind, and I couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle.I sauntered over to her door and placed a soft knock on it. There was noresponse…The first reflex was that she might have relocated to a different location. This made my heart beat faster. With a shaky heart and trembling wrist, I placed another knock on the door.Just then, I heard light footsteps and then, the clicking sound of the doorknob.Maya stood before me, looking as gorgeous as always even if she was stillclad in her pajamas. Her hair was packed in a ponytail, and that made her look even more attractive. She had a small scowl on her face, and it was apparent that I was the last person she intended to see.“What are you doing here?” She asked with a cold voice that made mefreeze. My eyes darted to her stomach, and even if there was no bump present, I could feel the excitement of being a father in my veins.“My child can’t be birthed outside my care and watch”, I dropped, hittingthe point directly since I wasn’t in for any form of pleasantries. She scoffed and staggered, wearing a look of utmost bewilderment.“What are you talking about?” She feigned ignorance and wore a straightface as though she had no idea of what I was talking about.I was at the verge of losing patience here, but I took in a deep breath andpeered piercingly into her eyes.“I thought about everything carefully and decided that it would be best ifyou come live with me until I have my child”, I explained. She started laughing at that point and this time, I was the one staring at herin shock.“Your child? Such audacity!” She declared, rolling her eyes with a spiteful expression.“Now you think it’s your child? I had thought that you told me plainly that you have nothing to do with this child?” She asked, with her eyes blazing in rage. I gulped down hard and took in a sharp breath.“Did you listen to what I just said? I said that you can’t have my child living in a place like this! I want you to come live in my house right until the child is born”, I explained again, trying so hard to stop myself from shouting. I didn’t understand the basis for her stubbornness, and it was getting me exhausted.“I won’t do that!” She vehemently refused and made to shut the door, but I held on to it with my foot, “Yes, you will!” I dropped. She rolled her eyes and struggled to shut the door, but her strength was nomatch for mine.I pushed the door and walked into the house, almost causing her to lose herstance.“I said I won’t live with you. You didn’t want the child at first”, shedeclared, a glint of hurt moving past her eyes.I swallowed hard and walked over to her, with an arrogant grin on my face.“We are talking about my child here! Do you know what I can do to you if you refuse?” I asked, and for a minute, she paused and stared at me, obviousshock in her eyes.“Are you threatening me?” She inquired, wearing a disdainful stare.
