It’s been two weeks, and I was yet to set my eyes on Maya. I made to avoidcaring at first, but I figured out that it was quite weird to keep silent when Iknew that it wasn’t a good thing.Ever since I learned about her pregnancy, I indulged in carrying out variousresearch related to what pregnant women should do and what they aremeant to avoid. In the middle of doing this, I realized that exercise wasparamount to keep the child healthy as well as improve the mental state of the mother. At this, I instructed the chef to stop sending her meals.“If she gets hungry, she would come out and find something to eat”, I had said to the chef, who was looking at me in shock. She didn’t protest. There was no way she would because she loved her joband I could replace her in just the flip of my finger.Afterward, I got relaxed in the living room and picked up a magazine, which I got engrossed in. After a couple of minutes, I heard fast footsteps descending towards me. I knew it didn’t come from any employee, but Imade had no attempt to lift my head.“Is that how you want me to live here? You intend to starve me and the child?” Maya asked.I could feel her fierce stare on me, even if I made no attempt to look at her.“You asked the chef to stop bringing me my meals. Why is that?” She asked again, breathing heavily and clearly in a state of rage.I finally dropped the magazine aside and folded my hands to my chest, peering into her eyes until she darted her eyes away from me.“I’m trying to help you and my child”, I said.“What?”She was stunned by my response because she kept looking at me like she just saw a ghost.“And how is that a means to help me?” She asked, almost screaming out of her lungs.“You sit around idling all day. You don’t even think of coming out to take awalk around and get some air!” I replied, after which I let out a scoff and made me pick up the magazine again. She yanked it out of my hands and tore it to tiny shreds, making me gasp inhorror.“Do you think you can just go around imposing what you want on me? This is not your company!” She yelled out of her lungs, frustration obvious inher voice.“I’m only trying to do what would help you and my child!” I chimed out, still pained by how she tore the magazine. She let out a scoff and swirled around to leave. At first, I had no idea ofwhat to do and so, I remained on the couch. But seconds later, I jerked back to my feet and started walking behind her, determined to get to the end of the argument before giving her some space.“Don’t walk out on me when I’m still talking to you!” I ordered defiantly as I walked into her room and banged the door behind me.She turned around and stared at me, folding her hands to her chest and looking into my eyes fearlessly.“I made my choice to stay in my room, and I was just fine with that! I didn’tplan to come out, and I loved that plan. Why do you constantly try to impose your choice on others?” She asked again, with a cold look that was enough to send cold shivers running down my spine.“You need to exercise and get some air! Take a walk every single day. That is what would be good for…”, I was still saying when she interrupted immediately.“No. You won’t tell me what I need to do”, she said and walked over to the door, opened it and asked that I leave.I clenched my fist in rage and drew in a deep breath after which I walkedaway. I was almost on the verge of letting out a scream because of how frustrated I was, but I withheld the urge to do that. Everything remained quiet all through the day. It was Saturday, and so, I had no cause to go to work or anything of such. I remained in the living room, hoping that Maya would come out soon.It was soon time for lunch, but there was no sign of her. At intervals, Imade to go check on her, but I dropped the thought as fast as it came. Around evening, I heard the sound of her room door opening. I focused my gaze on the television, pretending as though I had no idea that it as her.She went into the kitchen to get her meal, after which she sauntered over tothe dining table and took a seat. After what seemed like ages, she finally got done with her meal, but didn’t make any attempt to leave the table. This prompted me to shift my gaze towards that direction. Our eyes met, and I stiffened. She still had those dead glares on her face, buther eyes seemed to carry a different emotion. What was that look in her eyes? She stared at me after a while, after which she stood up and started makingher way to her room.“At least, you came out today. Don’t you feel better?” I asked as I sauntered behind her, even if she wasn’t saying a word to me.We got to her room door. She quickly got in and made to shut it on my face, but I was so swift. I got into the room, slightly pushing her aside. We stared at each other for a while, not saying a word with our mouths, but communicating a thousand words with our eyes. Suddenly, it felt as though there was a jolt of energy in my body. I took a step forward, covered the distance between us, and placed my lips on hers ferociously…
