“Sir…am I permitted to leave now?” I was saying but stopped dead in my tracks when I observed that his office was locked.I jiggled the doorknob continuously, hoping that I was only in a dream. It remained the same! It was locked, and that meant that he had left already!“What the hell!” I screamed in pain, clutching my chest that seemed to be bearing apart.I fought back the tears that stung my eyelids, after which I took in a deep breath and darted my eyes towards the exit.Never have I felt so worthless in my entire life. How could he leave methere in the office, even though he knew that I would pay attention to his instructions? With a wobbly foot and a broken heart, I started making my way out of the company. The only people around were the security team, and I didn’t fail to note the pity they wore on their faces just as I made my way out of the building. The minute the cold air hit my face, I lost control of my emotions and broke into tears. Minutes passed, and I didn’t move an inch from where I stood. After getting lost in my misery for a moment, I finally made my way back home.I took a quick shower and sank into the bed, not without recalling how I had waited for five extra hours at the office. My eyes shifted to my phone and I rested my gaze there for a moment.Deep down, I hoped that Daniel would call and apologize for keeping me waiting even after he left. However, there was not a single sign of a text or call. What was I expecting? That he would call me and apologize?Another hiss came off my lips as I snuggled into the bed, taking in sharp breaths to calm my raging heart. It was clear that he didn’t give a damnabout anyone. He cared just about himself and his company, not minding if he had to trample on others to get there. That was one thing I considered to be irritating! I mean, humans are meant to have some feelings and concerns for others…I was tossed on the bed for another time, struggling to take off the thoughts of him that snuck into my head. Each minute I closed my eyes, I saw various images of him and this was beginning to annoy me.I finally settled in to sleep some minutes past midnight, dreading what the next day at work would entail.***Night turned into morning, but I was yet to get out of bed. My head was aching, probably because of how drained I got yesterday.Just then, my phone beeped, and I let out a small groan. At first, I made to ignore whatever message I had gotten, but when I saw the name of the sender, I jolted back to the present. It was from Daniel…“I got to the office before you”, the message stated. My heart flew out of my chest as I tossed my phone aside and hastily made my way to the bathroom. This was the first time I got a text from him, and judging from the tone of the message, I could swear that it was on a bad note.“What the hell!” I cursed under my breath as I slid into my blue dress and packed my hair into a ponytail.Daniel didn’t deem it fit to apologize and confirm if I was doing okay after leaving me in the office for long hours, but he was swift to send me a message related to timing…I gulped hard as I grabbed my bag and rushed out of my room.Since I was certain that he had a sort of liking for me, I couldn’t deny the fact that there was something scary about him. Each time I stood before him, I found my heart skipping beats and my breath trembling in fear. The minute I walked into the company premises, I knew that there was trouble. The other employees kept staring, and when I couldn’t take it anymore, I threw the question at them.“And why are you staring?”They exchanged glances with each other and shrugged, without uttering a single word. The minute I walked into my office, realization struck, and I figured out why they were staring at me like that. Daniel was in my office waiting for me!“Good morning, sir”, I greeted, with my head lowered to the ground in respect. He lifted his head and rested his gaze on me for some seconds. A small scoff escaped his lips as he darted his eyes to his golden wristwatch.“Approximately two hours late!” He declared, and for a minute, I thought that I had just heard wrongly.According to my calculations, I was late for only an hour. But then, why did he say it was two?“I’m sorry, Sir. I’m one hour late”, I apologized, wishing that he could read through my mind and see the reason for that. He caused it after all and owed me an apology.“Two hours late”, he corrected, and this time, I stared at him in shock.“As my personal assistant, you are meant to be here earlier than the other staff”, he announced while my eyes popped out of their sockets. He folded his hands to his chest, his fierce gaze lingering on me.“And you are meant to be the last to leave”, he added.A wave of pure and genuine hate engulfed me as I listened to his rules that touched my entire being. My body grew cold with hurt and anger, but there wasn’t anything I could do.“Do you understand?” He asked, and I slowly nodded. He took a step backward, his eyes still fixed on me. My heart was racing that I thought I would pass out the next second.“We have a meeting tomorrow. You must get the presentation ready before then, or else, you won’t like me”, he dropped and walked out of my office, without sparing me another glance.I took in a deep breath and almost went crazy when the scent of his cologne hit my nostrils. It was so fierce that it lingered around my office for some minutes. After a moment of brooding, I finally settled in to start my day and finalize the presentation for the next day.Around noon, I picked up the files and sauntered over to Daniel’s office. I was done with the presentation plan and wanted him to take a look and give his thoughts. With a shaky breath, I placed a knock on the door. No response came until the third attempt. Actually, I was aware that he had heard the first knock, but then, I wanted to add more effort before he dropped his reply.“Sir, I was hoping that you would be free to take a look at what I designed already”, I announced and stretched the files towards him.Daniel’s gaze was fixed on his laptop and even if he knew I was standing before him, he didn’t attempt to look up.“Sir?” I called out, and again, there was no response.I was beginning to lose patience at this point. But then, there was nothing else to do apart from remaining patient while waiting for him to acknowledge my presence. After standing for thirty minutes, he finally lifted his head and gazed at me.“Drop it on the table”, he ordered and returned his gaze to his laptop.I screamed out of my lungs and told him how stupid and silly he was for making me feel like tr However, I took in a very deep breath and did as he ordered. It was barely a week of working at the company, but I felt drained as though I had been working all my life. Daniel made sure of that and did it effortlessly.Walking back into my office, I kicked off my shoes and collapsed on the chair, massaging my forehead with my index finger. My eyes were swirling and beginning to turn blurry.Just then, I felt a sharp pain in the right part of my head. It disappeared almost immediately but returned in a split second.“Aarghhh!” I screamed in pain as everything turned dark, and I slipped into the world of unconsciousness
