Myra sighed again and glanced at the door. Melissa rolled her eyes and dropped the pen she was using, before facing her. "Okay, tell me. What is it?" "What's what?" Myra asked innocently. Melissa chuckled. "This is the seventh time you've sighed since I arrived. I checked your vitals and everything is fine. There's nothing wrong physically, unless..." She rubbed her chin dramatically before her eyes widened. "It's a matter of the heart." Myra laughed as though Melissa had told the world's funniest joke. "Impossible." "Impossible how?" Melissa dragged her chair closer. "I'm smelling gossip." "Don't be silly. There's no gossip." Myra avoided her gaze, but Melissa refused to let it go. Although Matteo told her to stay quiet about their mate bond, she was still a little curious."Tell me about your mate." The smile on Myra's face slowly disappeared. Melissa immediately regretted asking. "It's okay if you don't want to talk about it. It's your business, not mine. Myra shook her head. "No. You've helped me a lot. I can tell you." Taking a deep breath, she stared at the ceiling. "My mate married my sister and rejected me on our wedding day." Melissa froze. Looking up at the white ceiling, her eyes became moist. "I watched them leave together while everyone congratulated them. Everyone was smiling and celebrating as if they weren't ruining my life. And here I am now, hiding like a criminal while they're probably living happily together. In a year or two they'll probably have children. Meanwhile I'm not even allowed to wander around freely." Another bitter laugh escaped her lips. "My life is really pathetic." Melissa felt her heart ache. She reached forward and held Myra's hand. "Don't say that. Look at you. You're still here. You're alive. You're stronger than you think. Hell, if Dante ever rejected me, I'd probably lose my mind." That finally earned a smile from Myra. "I'm serious," Melissa continued. "You survived something most people wouldn't survive. That isn't weakness. You deserve happiness too." Myra wiped the corner of her eyes. "You should've become a therapist instead of a doctor." Melissa laughed. "I get that a lot." The door suddenly burst open. "MYRAAAA!" Bria ran into the room dramatically, "Oh my goddess, Myra!" She rushed over and hugged her tightly. "What happened to you? I was so worried!" Myra laughed. "I'm fine." "No, you're not fine!" Bria pulled back. "I thought you got kidnapped. I thought some bad people saw your beauty and forced you to become a s*x slave."Melissa stared at her. "What exactly goes on inside your head?" Bria ignored her completely. "You have no idea how guilty I felt." Myra blinked. "Guilty?" "Do you know His Majesty almost strangled me because of you?" Myra's eyes widened, even Melissa was surprised, "What?" Bria nodded seriously. "I'm not joking. He was furious because I let you leave without supervision." Melissa immediately understood. A strange feeling appeared in Myra's chest. Why would Matteo care so much? Why would he go that far for her? They barely knew each other. Surely it wasn't because of her. She quickly pushed the thought away. "You're exaggerating." "Hell no," Bria immediately objected. "I nearly died. My life was literally flashing before my eyes." Melissa laughed. "Alright, calm down. Take a deep breath." Bria inhaled dramatically before exhaling. "There. I feel better already." Melissa shook her head. "You're impossible." Bria suddenly clapped her hands. "You know what this calls for?" Myra and Melissa exchanged glances. "A celebration!" Bria grinned. "We should go to the most expensive restaurant, eat the finest steak, and drink the best wine." Myra laughed. Melissa raised an eyebrow. "You can't drink. You're underage." "So what?" Bria protested. "In a few weeks I'll be an adult. I'll find my mate, get married, and live happily ever after in the giant mansion Papa will build for me." Both Myra and Melissa burst into laughter. "What about all your celebrity crushes or your handsome soldiers?" Myra teased. Bria immediately froze. Melissa joined in. "Yeah. What happens when your mate stops you from obsessing over handsome soldiers and actors?" She continued seeing Bria’s pale face after hearing what she said. "Exactly! Dante is already controlling enough and we're not even married." Myra nodded. "That's true." Bria scratched her head dramatically while the other two laughed. Outside the room, Matteo stood by the slightly opened door. His eyes landed on Myra's smiling face. For the first time in days, she looked genuinely happy. A faint smile appeared on his lips. Bringing Bria here had been a good decision. Very soon, everything would be ready. Very soon, he would be able to announce Myra's identity to the world. Meanwhile, preparations for the annual royal ball had already begun. It was a tradition that started after Matteo ascended the throne. Every year, unmated she-wolves and noblewomen from different packs attended, all hoping to catch the attention of the Lycan King.
