A blazing light of the sun hit Angelique’s face. She groaned in irritation because it disturbed her peaceful slumber.
“Sh*t! Who opened the window?” she groggily said. But when she opened her eyes she realized she was not home.
She looked around until she remembered what happened last night. But she never saw, even the silhouette of the woman she’s with. Her mate was gone.
She never knew her name and even her face was a little blurry. She tried to sniff her scent so she could follow her but there's no chance for her to know where she is. The woman perfectly hid her scent and it seemed like it was just a dream.
Angelique will really think it was a dream if she never saw marks on her body. Bruises from the kisses and wounds made by her nails, it was a shred of big evidence that the wonderful night was real.
She felt more frustrated than last night. She covered her face with her palm to calm herself. She was still naked, sitting down on the rock, but she never cared. Her mind only kept on playing the last night's event.
She groaned before she stood up and wore her clothes. She needed to go home too. The kids might be waiting for her all night because she didn’t go home.
That was the first time she never told Kimber she would be late outside. If she does have a mission, she will tell her beforehand so they won’t be worried.
“I think it's time to go home,” she told herself and looked around. “I will be back, mate.”
After that, she ran back home. She made sure not to run with anyone, especially the Lycans that were looking for her. The other personality of hers, Lily. They will surely kill her because she’s a hindrance to their success.
She went home without any hassle on the way. But as she thought, Kimberly was waiting for her. The other kids were also inside waiting for her.
The sun was already up but it looked like the kids didn’t go to school. She could feel that they were worried at first, changed into relief, then now they were all angry at her.
“Where have you been? We were so worried for you, especially Pink who didn’t sleep waiting for you to come home. You’re an adult and we are just kids. Why are we worrying and not you?” After she took her first step inside the house, she was bombarded with words from Kimberly. “Why didn't you come home last night? Where did you scent the night? With who? Don’t deny it because I can smell a faint scent of roses.”
“Please, tone down your voice. It’s hurting my ear and head.” It was followed by a groan that made the children worried about her once again.
“Sit down and drink this,” Hanzel said and gave Angelique a soup. It was made from the vegetables they raised in their backyard.
“Thank you. I feel relaxed now.” Angelique leaned on the chair and closed her eyes. She felt tired and emotionally not stable. Who will be if you didn't see your mate when you wake up after your steamy night?
“Do you have a reason why you didn’t go home?” Kimberly’s voice became gentle now and ready to listen. They all sat down around the table, looking at Angelique, and waited for her to talk.
She always told them things not harmful for them to know. It won't hurt her b*tt if she told them, so she did.
“When I told you I went out, I really did. I never knew when I was going until I unconsciously went to my old house. I remembered my past, especially the day I realized I was different.” She sighed and looked up. “I felt sad and unstable. It became worse when I saw a person who bullied me before. The person who betrayed my trust and also broke my heart.”
“Don’t tell me you made her pay?” Kevin asked even though he already knew what might have happened. He could tell by Angelique’s face that she did. He just sighed and couldn’t say anything anymore.
“What happened after that?” Kimberly intently looked at her, asking her not to lie.
“I went to a nearby river to vent my remaining anger but I also met someone there. She attempted to commit suicide, thank God I came in time. Then I helped her and never left her because she might do it again. I couldn’t afford to leave her, I still have a conscience, especially because she's a werewolf too. But by the time I woke up, she had already left. I looked for her but I couldn’t find her. Even a small hint where she went, she cleared it all up. That’s the reason I never went home.” Angelique sighed and looked at them one by one.
“One more thing, I don’t want to go home while I am mad. I can’t afford it if I lose myself and hurt one of you. I don’t want that to happen. So I would rather stay outside than hurting you. I will not hurt even a single hair in your hair.”
“Fine. But still, tell us if something happens again.” Kimberly stood up and got Angelique’s food she prepared for her.
“Okay. I will. Sorry too,” she softly said then ate the food prepared by the kids.
“Wait,” Clark talked for the first time after a long silence. “You said that she smelt like roses a while ago, didn't you?”
“Yeah, why?” Kimberly asked her, cluelessly.
“Did you forget that smell? I can’t easily smell it if it has a faint scent, but you are because you are a direct descendant.” From what Clark said, Kimberly’s eyes got wider like a saucer.
“You are right!” she exclaimed and looked at Angelique with full anticipation in her eyes. “Do you know where she lives?”
Angelique’s brows furrow from the sudden question of Kimber. The kid was excited and hopeful. For the first time, Angelique saw something in the eyes of the kids.
Before, all they wanted was to survive this cruel world. They wanted to learn and have their revenge on the same opponent they have.
“I don’t know. I tried to follow her tracks but she seems to be knowledgeable on how to cover her tracks. She hid her scent too well too.” Angelique could compliment her mate for her survival skill. She didn’t know her but she’s happy that she knew how to save herself in a time of trouble.
“What can you smell from her?”
“Roses and morning dew. A refreshing scent,” she complimented. But she stopped when she saw that the kids started to cry. She could feel that they’re happy but she was still not used to them crying. She knew they’re strong kids. “What’s the matter?”
They couldn’t answer her and cried more. Angelique stood up and took some water for them to calm down. She didn’t have any knowledge on how to sympathize with other people since her family’s death.
They took the water and made a small sip until they all calmed down. Angelique couldn’t bear to ask them so she let them first.
“We know her,” Kimberly said, which lightened Angelique’s mood.
“Really?” She hid how enthusiastic she was.
“Yeah. She’s my sister. She’s the only one who can do that in our pack and also smelt like roses.”
Angelique was surprised. She remembered the woman she saw on the mass grave before. She gave her a stone that she needed to give to Kimberly’s sister, now she knew that was also her mate.
“So, you mean the Blood Rose Stone Pack is somewhere out there and waiting for the time to strike back?” she voiced out.
“Maybe. But, that’s not part of our concern now. We want to know if you have any idea where they are and if we can reunite with them. I miss my sister. We miss our family.” Angelique saw the desperation in Kimberly’s eyes. All the kids were hopeful for good news.
“I am sorry, Kids. I, myself, wanted to know where she was. I really want to help you, guys but I really don’t know where they’re hiding. I’ve been wandering around the whole Arcadia but this is the first time I saw one of them. I also want to see her, so don’t worry. If I find out where they’re hiding, I will tell you.” She looked at them. They could see that she was telling the truth so they all nodded with hope in their heart.
“Can we go there?”
“Nope. It was near the Lycan’s territory. It might be dangerous. Leave this task to me because I can easily sneak into them.”
“Okay. Thank you, Angelique!” They all smiled at her, showing how grateful they were. “It’s really a relief knowing there’s still a chance that they were all alive.”
“I know how it feels.” She didn’t show any emotions on her face, but kids could tell what she really felt. “Can you excuse me now? I just want to lay down a bit. I am a little tired and sleepy.”
“Sure. Please, take your time and get better.” Angelique nodded and left them there.
The kids were excited to know that their Alpha was alive. Kimberly’s sister was the successor so it means she’s the Alpha from the moment the former Alpha died.
“We have to be strong so we can help them in time,” Clark suggested and they all agreed. If they want to help their pack, they need to work harder.
Meanwhile, inside the room…
Angelique looked outside and spaced out. She felt conflicted with all the emotions she was feeling at the moment.
She’s sad because she didn’t see her mate when she woke up. Angry at what she witnessed when she got there. Happy because she’s Kimberly’s sister and she was looking for her. Frustrated by her mixed emotions, especially the straggling of her mind and heart.
Last night was like a dream come true, but by the time she woke up, it seems like it was really all a dream. She didn’t know why she ran away. Maybe because she’s a Lycan, a pack that she hated most.
Anger for what she is, a Lycan, emerged again. But what can she do if she’s a Lycan? It didn’t define who she is.
“Assuming will not bring me good mental health. I’ll just go back there tomorrow. I might see her again then we can talk. Maybe there’s a chance for us. I’ll just need to talk to her,” she said to herself as she lay down on her bed.
She really felt exhausted, that the time her back hit the bed, her eyes started to close. She let her exhaustion succumb her into a deep slumber.
