“They really come!” Kimberly exclaimed while pointing to the guard and the right-hand man of the King on the monitor.
“I know they will,” said Rea, conceited. She really saw it all and it really happened. Nothing changed because she saw it after Angelique already made the decision. She never changed what really meant to happen.
“Are everything in place?” Angelique said not minding the comments of the other people around her. They’re in a large room so it can accommodate many people.
“Yes, Alpha. Everything is perfect.” She nodded to Conor and watched what would happen.
The camera they installed has a built-in mic already, so they could clearly hear them. They saw their every move and even the spy they brought was clear. Some of them walked to the side and went to the forest like Rea predicted.
The right-hand man talked to Serio, who stood up as their Elder. They didn’t force them because most of them were old and powerless in their eyes. There’s no use in using force for a place like this.
Also, not far away, they could see that the land was really useless. They saw dried plants that were planted when it rained but now it was dry again because of lack of water. The only tree bearing fruit was near another pack territory, where they took their food and chose to live.
The man just shook his head knowing there’s nothing they could take. Even the women of this pack were old. Who wanted a wrinkled woman?
“Can we look around?” a polite guard asked Serio. He was the one who went there a few days ago asking about Cinna.
“Sure, Sir. But I will advise that you won’t go to the forest at the back. There’s a group of beasts residing there. It is their territory and if you go in, they will kill you.” When the right-hand man heard it, he got interested.
“What do you mean, old man?” Serio didn’t bother with his manner and answered him.
“The younger one of our pack went there, trying to salvage any fruits we could get but only a few went back. We went back and we saw it with our own eyes. We were powerless so we didn’t go there again.” Serio bowed down like he was sad remembering the people who died in that forest.
It triggered the interest of the muscular man. He signed for some to remain while some will accompany him. He wanted to witness something today, not minding what their real objective was.
Not far away, he saw the spies he brought with him slowly approaching the said forest. Even where he was standing, he could see how dark the forest was and it was emitting something dangerous that he never felt before.
They already went to the forest near the Lycan’s pack before and it was also dangerous. But this kind of danger is different from there, like it was saying just take one step and you will die.
The spies looked at each other, contemplating if they would go inside. But when they saw their boss looking at them, they just swallowed their saliva and took a step. Which was the biggest they had made in their life.
A praying mantis-like creature emerged from the dark bushes. It has the shape of a mantis but its hand was sharper, her tail had a sharp edge, its stomach had some tentacles that were moving, and its eyes were so menacing. It was screaming death.
A man slowly stepped back cowardly. The creature was looking at him like he was prey.
His other friend loaded her bow with an arrow and shot the mantis but it just bounced back. Its skin was made up of the strongest steel that no weapon can penetrate.
A younger and cowardly one screamed out of fright. It made the creature more agitated and attacked them. One after another, a part of a body flew inside the forest. Blood dripped down the soil and polluted it.
The right-hand man stopped on his track as he looked at how a monster killed his hired spies. He knew he paid them for a job but not for their lost life. For sure, it will reflect on their King.
Some of them ran fast away from the creature. When they passed through the line made of hay, the creature stopped and looked at them sharply before it went back inside the forest.
Five people died with just one attack of that creature. They were shocked and terrified by what they had witnessed. Even the soldiers of the King stepped back after seeing the monster. They had never seen it before and it was quite strong.
“I told you! You should have listened to me!” Serio cried in frustration. He reminded them but out of curiosity, they risked the life of other people, their comrades.
The right-hand man of the King looked at the old man who seemed to run from his home to them. He was catching his breath a hard way.
The good guy passed him some of his water. He drank it like it was his last but didn’t finish it all. He was still considerate after all.
“When did they start to appear?” a guy asked him.
“I don’t know since when because we never went there for a year or so. But we just discovered it a few months ago when the fruits we’re eating were not enough anymore.” He retaliated while he squatted to have a rest.
“How many creatures are inside?” the guy asked again while listening attentively to the old man.
“We don’t know. It was my first time seeing the mantis. Before it was a centipede who attacked our people then when we went back, it was a fox next. We tried again, and a snake-like creature appeared. Sometimes, we saw a bird flying above. They were so strong and their body was impenetrable.” They knew he was saying the truth because they already encountered the mantis. Then a colony of bats flew above them, watching if they passed the boundary.
“They won’t go inside if the forest looks like this. They will surely die even if they're powerful. We can’t conquer this creature, how about them?” the leader said with a mocking smirk on his lips.
“What will we say to the King?” the good guy asked him.
“Just leave it to me,” he said, full of confidence. He already made an excuse, not exactly an excuse but rather a reasonable reason, go tell the King.
He left them and went back to where his troops were waiting. The other followed while the good guy helped Serio so they could go back together.
Serio appreciated his help.
“By the way, can I ask?” Serio consciously asked.
“What is it?”
“I never asked you a while ago because you’re the King’s people. But, what are you doing here? We’re just a poor pack, we don’t have anything to give to you at all.” Serio appeared that he was just curious but inside, he already knew why.
“A person the King wanted to join his force ran away. Also, one of his ladies was being kidnapped. We are looking for them,” he just spilled it out like it was nothing.
“But, why here? We are the poorest of the poor. We can not provide help for anyone even if we want to. All the oldsters here chose to live here because we couldn’t leave the place where we were born. We will die here without any regret.” His words were true. They chose to stay because they love their pack way more than to have a good life.
“We knew. But we were just making sure.” Serio nodded and sighed when she saw her wife waiting for him with a glass of water. The guy grimace when he saw that the water was not that clean.
“Thank you for helping my husband home, Sir!” Marie said with full of gratitude.
“It’s nothing.” He didn’t smile but they could see kindness in his eyes. “By the way, do you know why the monster never crosses the line?”
“We don’t know. Maybe they’re just territorial. We are just thankful they never got out of their line and killed us. We can live our normal life, even if it is not normal.” Serio laughed at his own joke.
The guy didn’t answer. Their commander called him so he went there.
He was giving them instruction before he left ahead of them. The good guy looked at them.
“Thank you for your cooperation.”
“Thank you for visiting, Sir!” Maria and Serio replied followed by other members.
They didn’t reply and left. Maria and Serio released a relieved sigh.
Angelique was satisfied with what she saw. It came out that the King’s soldiers were not that strong but they were advanced in quantity.
All creatures that they mentioned were true. But everyone has their own master. Angelique didn’t have any ability to tame but she also had one. She helped incubate the egg then it opened, a white griffin came out of the egg. She was acknowledged by the baby griffin as its mother so it was always watching her.
“We won’t change this. We will just buy another land in Guslar for our food.”
“Yes, Alpha!” they replied.
“Buckle up! We have more things to do!” she shouted and left them.
She went out of the crowded place and went to the clinic where that woman stayed. He was there all the time because of her phobia of men.
She knocked on the door before she spoke. “It’s me!” Then little footsteps could be heard inside and the door opened.
Angelique went inside and observed the whole room. Nothing new was there.
“How are you?”
“I am fine now.” The woman forced a smile.
“How’s your wound?” She was talking about what the operation did to her. It was to remove the mark the King gave her. It was a painful process but she survived and is still surviving.
“It is bearable now, especially after I took the medicine that you made. There was a pain sometimes but it was nothing. Cinna also visited me some time and healed some of my wounds.” Angelique nodded and was satisfied hearing it was a success. “How’s the meeting with the King’s soldiers?”
“Everything went on smoothly. Everything is fine so don’t worry. Just help yourself and be healthy.” She nodded. She was grateful for their help and she wanted to live here because of the peacefulness she never felt before.
Those scoundrels really gave her a big fright. Even the people she loved and trusted stubbed her in the back when they knew she had no use anymore.
Angelique was ready to leave again when the woman spoke that made her stop. She just looked at her like asking her what she wanted.
“Reema.”
“What?”
“My name is Reema,” she shyly said. She couldn’t look at Angelique’s beautiful body.
“Then, welcome aboard, Reema.” Then she turned around and left.
Reema knew she was busy, so she was thankful for a small moment she gave to her just to go visit her. She was thankful for their help and promised to repay them, especially her, when she got better.
After she left, Kimberly went inside carrying food and followed by Hanzel who was carrying a glass of water and her medicine. It was boiled by the sister for her. It really helped her recover.
“Please, recover fast so you can look around. We know you will be happy when you see the place.” Hanzel gladly sat down beside Reema. Reema smiled while looking at the beautiful teenager.
“Help me, please.”
“Sure.”
With that, she happily ate all the food they prepared.
