CHAPTER FIVE

“Didn’t take you for the partying type”. Catherine blinked as the sudden voice beside her brought her out of her reverie. She cleared her throat quietly as she realized that she had paced out long enough for Cam to walk up to her and join her on the couch. “Hi?”. She said awkwardly. He smirked. His gaze raked over her figure appreciatively. “hello, Cat”. He said, his tone suggesting he was bored. “Again, I didn’t take you for the partying type”. She took a sip of her beer again, it was much needed. “Yeah, didn’t think I’d be here either”. She said. He chuckled. “So there’s a story behind all this then, the plain Jane in a frat party looking like a…slay queen”. He said. “Should I ask?”. She blew out a heavy breath, a smirk curved her lips as she regarded him wryly. Guys were like that: scorning and mocking plain Janes whilst they flocked around insta slay queens. “Needed to blow off some steam”. She told him. “what’s your story?” She knew it was dumb asking, but she had to keep the conversation going. He arched a brow questioningly. “I mean what’s the story behind you being here?”. She explained to which he smirked even more. “There’s not much to tell really, same as you I guess”. He said, his gaze leaving hers but returning shortly. “Throwing a party to blow off some steam”. It was her turn to arch a brow. “This is your party?”. She asked. ”Your house?”. She didn’t know why she found it surprising. He didn’t seem surprised by her questions, rather he seemed amused, like the boredom h had been suffering from was finally wearing off. “If I say yes, will you set that awful beer aside and come dance with me?”. He asked smirking. She considered what he had said. Taking one last sip from the can she set it aside and turned to face him fully. He smiled. “Works all the time?”. He said simply. “What exactly?”. She asked crossing one slim leg over the other. She saw just how the creamy skin of her thighs his attention. Perhaps the beer had made her a little….bolder; she wanted to toy with him a little, better him than some pierced creep groping her backside. “I never said I would dance with you, I merely set my drink aside”. She said. A smirk replaced his smile and he settled into the couch fully. “Okay, in due time then”. He said. “Rena would flip on seeing what the cat pulled outta the bag”. “She’s here?”. She asked. It wasn’t till the words left her mouth that she realized how stupid she sounded, of course she would be here. “It’s a frat party, my frat party, of course she’s here…..somewhere around”. He said. “Now back to you Cat, you wanted to blow off some steam, yeah?”. She said nothing, just watched him. “Sitting on a couch in a party doesn’t strike me as blowing off steam but who am I to judge?”. He said lazily. She knew he was right, but if she was to be honest, sitting here did make her feel better, sitting here with him. She seemed to have forgotten most of her troubles for a moment. “Any suggestion?”. She asked. ‘Cam!’. A female voice screeched loudly from somewhere causing Catherine to turn in the direction the sound had come from. There were countless girls there, and they were all staring at cam, she couldn’t be sure of the exact one. She turned back to face Cam who hadn’t taken his eyes of her for a second. “Well, I could offer to give you a tour of the house”. He said like he hadn’t heard anything at all. “My parents like collecting antiques, you may find them interesting”. That had sure spiked her interest. “But then again, this is a party, that wouldn’t do”. He said causing her to roll her eyes subtly. He snickered. “Come Cat”. He said as he got on his feet, looking down at her he added “Dance with me”. He extended is hand out to her, once again she thought things through as she stared at his fingers embellished with rings, one with a skull design caught her interest. Finally she slid her hand into his, his fingers closed around her had immediately and he pulled her up to her feet, the impact of it causing her to bump into his chest. He stared down at her. “Listen Cat, if you want to blow off some steam you don’t think everything through, you simply let things flow”. He said, his eyes boring into hers deeply. “Wanna have fun or not?”. There was something about his eyes, about the way he looked at her, there was something about him, she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. She nodded. ~~ Soon enough she was swaying her hips freely, Cam’s hand settled on her waist as they danced with everyone else, they may have been close; the proximity, but he knew barriers and he respected them. She was having fun, the sunken look in her eyes had been replaced by a vibrant gleam of a constricted soul finally set free. “Having fun?”. He asked, his voice was almost drowned out by the loud music. Apparently, he didn’t feel the need to raise his voice, not even with music blaring harshly. She nodded. A grin spread across her lips. “Great”. The music soon changed to a slow and almost sensual song forcing the rhythm of their dance to change with it. His hands snaked around her thin waist and he pulled her closer to his chest. ‘I don’t like slow songs”. He said against her ear. “I don’t like slow songs at all”. His hot breath fanned the side of her face, she held her breath instinctively in other to save herself the pain of perceiving the thick smell of cigarette and alcohol on his breath, however, she soon realized there wasn’t a single hint of either. “Why?”. She asked regarding what he had said. He hummed quietly before saying: “Right now, it makes me want to feel you up, something tells me you wouldn’t be chill with it though”. She swallowed a sudden lump that had formed in her throat. Would she be chill with it? Would she? ‘You won’t know until you try’. Her subconscious whispered to her like a little devil hanging on her shoulder. “Or maybe not”. He added on seeing the look in her eyes, one of conflicting thoughts. She felt his hand slide lower to rest on her backside lazily while his eyes gauged her reaction carefully. She cleared her throat quietly but made no attempt to complain or pull away. She didn’t feel the need to. If the night went on like this she might as well end up making the most out of it. A sinister smile curved his lips as he pulled her against his chest completely, his hands roamed her curves expertly and his breath fanned her neck sensually. She arched against him, the slowly song making the moment even more alluring. She felt his fingers comb through her hair smoothly, she had never been chill with random people touching her hair but right now she chose not to care, she chose not to care for the night.
