Chapter 1:The wedding that never happened
The bridal suite buzzed with excitement. Soft laughter drifted through the room as makeup artists gave their final touches, photographers adjusted their cameras, and bridesmaids moved about in elegant champagne-colored dresses. Standing before the full-length mirror was Aurora Sinclair. The ivory wedding gown hugged her figure perfectly before flowing gracefully to the floor. Tiny crystals sewn into the fabric caught the morning sunlight streaming through the large windows, making the dress shimmer with every slight movement. One of the makeup artists stepped back and smiled. "You look breathtaking." Another nodded in agreement. "The groom won't be able to take his eyes off you." Aurora laughed softly, her fingers brushing against the engagement ring resting on her left hand. Her best friend, Lydia, walked over and adjusted Aurora's veil. "You've waited five years for this day," she said warmly. "Stop pretending you're calm." Aurora sighed dramatically. "Is it that obvious?" "It couldn't be more obvious." The two friends laughed together. Lydia had watched Aurora and Sebastian's relationship from the very beginning—the awkward introductions during university, the late-night study sessions that turned into dinner dates, the proposal beneath a sky full of fireworks. Everything had led to today. Aurora took a slow breath. "I still can't believe it's finally happening." "It is," Lydia replied. "And in less than an hour, you'll officially become Mrs. Hayes." Aurora smiled. For a brief moment, everything felt perfect. A gentle knock interrupted the cheerful atmosphere. The door opened slowly. Charles Sinclair stepped inside. The conversations immediately quieted. His eyes landed on his daughter. For several seconds, he simply stared. Aurora turned toward him. "Dad?" Charles smiled, though his eyes had already become misty. "My little girl..." His voice trembled. "You've grown into such a remarkable woman." Aurora's smile softened. She walked toward him and wrapped her arms around him. Charles hugged her tightly. "I'm proud of you," he whispered. "So proud." Aurora rested her head against his shoulder. "Thank you for always believing in me." He pulled away just enough to look at her. "Marriage isn't about perfection. There will be difficult days. But if two people choose each other every day, they'll overcome more than they ever imagined." Aurora nodded. "I'll remember that." Charles gently kissed her forehead. "You deserve a lifetime of happiness." A voice called from outside. "Mr. Sinclair, the ceremony is about to begin." Charles wiped the corner of his eye and chuckled. "I suppose they're waiting for us." He offered Aurora his arm. "Shall we?" Aurora slipped her hand through his arm. "I'm ready." Or at least. She thought she was. Outside, St. Michael's Cathedral looked magnificent. White roses lined the entrance. Crystal chandeliers hung from the high ceiling. A string quartet played softly as guests filled every seat. Business executives. Politicians. Close friends. Family members. Everyone had gathered to witness what many called the wedding of the year. At the altar stood Sebastian Hayes. Dressed in a perfectly tailored black tuxedo, he greeted guests with practiced smiles. Beside him stood his best man. "You look nervous," his friend whispered. Sebastian forced a smile. "I'm fine." But deep inside... He wasn't. His phone vibrated inside his pocket. One new message. He glanced down. A single video file. No sender. No caption. His expression changed. He hesitated. Then pressed play... Outside, St. Michael's Cathedral stood in breathtaking splendor. Rows of white roses lined the aisle while a string quartet filled the sanctuary with a soft, elegant melody. Distinguished guests continued arriving, exchanging warm greetings as photographers captured every memorable moment. At the altar stood Sebastian Hayes. Dressed in a perfectly tailored black tuxedo, he acknowledged each guest with a courteous smile. To everyone present, he looked like a man ready to begin the next chapter of his life. His best man leaned closer. "You've been checking your watch every few minutes. Relax." Sebastian forced a smile. "I am relaxed." "You don't look it." Before Sebastian could respond, his phone vibrated inside his jacket pocket. He frowned. Who could possibly be texting him now? He discreetly slipped the phone from his pocket and glanced at the screen. One new message. Unknown Number. Attached was a single video. No caption. No explanation. His heartbeat quickened. He hesitated for a brief second before tapping the screen. The video began to play. His expression slowly changed. The confidence disappeared from his face. "What is it?" his best man asked quietly. Sebastian couldn't answer. His grip tightened around the phone. His breathing became uneven. "Sebastian?" Still, no response. The church doors slowly opened Everyone rose to their feet. Aurora had arrived. Sebastian looked from the phone. ...to the woman walking gracefully down the aisle. His eyes darkened. "This wedding..." he whispered. "...cannot go on." The church fell into complete silence. Every guest had risen to their feet. Aurora appeared at the entrance, her hand gently resting on her father's arm. A soft murmur swept across the congregation. "She looks stunning." "What a beautiful bride." "They're such a perfect couple." The string quartet changed to a gentle wedding hymn as Aurora began walking down the aisle. Her heart pounded with excitement. This was the moment she had imagined countless times. She lifted her gaze. Their eyes met. For a brief second, she smiled. But Sebastian didn't smile back. His face was pale. His expression was unreadable. Aurora frowned slightly. Maybe he's just nervous, she thought. Charles gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. "You look worried." "I'm fine, Dad." "Today is your day. Don't let anything steal your joy." Aurora nodded, forcing another smile. Step by step, they moved closer to the altar. When they finally reached Sebastian, Charles carefully placed Aurora's hand into his. Instead of holding it warmly... Sebastian's fingers remained stiff. Aurora looked at him in confusion. "Sebastian?" He avoided her eyes. The officiating minister smiled warmly. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the union of these two wonderful people in holy matrimony." The congregation listened attentively. The minister continued. "If anyone present knows any lawful reason why these two should not be joined together, let them speak now or forever hold their peace." Silence. Aurora breathed a quiet sigh of relief. Then... "Pastor." Sebastian's voice echoed through the cathedral. The minister paused. "Yes, son?" "I need to say something." A few guests exchanged puzzled glances. The minister smiled politely. "If it's your vows, you'll have the opportunity shortly." Sebastian slowly shook his head. "No..." His voice grew firmer. "It can't wait." Aurora stared at him. "What are you doing?" Sebastian took a deep breath before turning toward the guests. "I'm sorry, everyone." The atmosphere shifted instantly. "I can't marry Aurora Sinclair." A collective gasp swept through the church. Aurora felt the blood drain from her face. "What...?" Charles stepped forward. "Sebastian, this isn't funny." "I'm not joking." His mother immediately stood up. "Sebastian, what are you saying?" He reached into his pocket and raised his phone. "I received something a few minutes ago." He walked to the large projector screen prepared for the wedding slideshow. "I wasn't going to do this." "...but everyone deserves to know the truth." Aurora's breathing became uneven. "What truth?" Without another word. Sebastian connected his phone. The screen flickered to life. A video began to play. Aurora's eyes widened. "I've never seen that before." No one answered. The guests watched in stunned silence as the footage unfolded before them. Whispers spread across the cathedral. "What is this?" "Is that really Aurora?" "I don't believe it..." Sebastian turned to face her, disappointment clouding his features. "I trusted you." Aurora shook her head repeatedly, tears already gathering in her eyes. "No... Sebastian, listen to me." "I don't know where that came from." "You have to believe me." He took a slow step backward. "I wanted to." His voice cracked. "I really wanted to." He slowly removed the engagement ring from his finger. Aurora's world seemed to stop. "I can't marry someone I can no longer trust." He placed the ring on the altar. The soft metallic sound echoed through the silent cathedral. Aurora stood frozen. The wedding she had dreamed about for five years. ...was falling apart before her eyes. Aurora couldn't hear the whispers anymore. They blended into a dull roar that echoed through her mind. She stared at Sebastian, hoping he would look into her eyes and see the truth. Instead, he looked away. Her voice trembled. "Sebastian... please tell me this is some kind of misunderstanding." He remained silent. She took a hesitant step toward him. "I've loved you for five years. You know the kind of person I am. How can you believe a video over me?" Sebastian clenched his jaw. "If it were only the video, I would have ignored it." Aurora froze. "What do you mean?" He slowly reached into his jacket and pulled out a brown envelope. "I've been receiving anonymous messages for weeks." Her brows knitted together. "Anonymous messages?" "They all said the same thing." He looked at her with disappointment clouding his eyes. "They warned me not to marry you." Aurora shook her head repeatedly. "No... no, that's impossible." "I didn't send anyone." "I don't even know what you're talking about." Sebastian's mother rose from her seat and stormed toward the altar. "I knew something wasn't right!" She pointed an accusing finger at Aurora. "My son almost ruined his future because of you." Charles immediately stepped in front of his daughter. "Mrs. Hayes, mind your words." She scoffed. "Your daughter deceived my son!" Charles' face darkened. "My daughter was raised with integrity." "Oh, really?" She laughed sarcastically. "Then explain that video." Charles opened his mouth but found himself speechless. He had no explanation because he had never seen anything like it before. Aurora's breathing became heavier. She looked around the church. Faces that had smiled at her only moments earlier were now filled with suspicion. Some guests whispered openly. "I can't believe this." "I always thought she was too perfect." "What a disgrace." Tears rolled down Aurora's cheeks. "I'm innocent." Her voice was barely above a whisper. "I swear I'm innocent." No one responded. The silence hurt more than the accusations. The officiating minister let out a deep sigh. "I think... under these circumstances..." He paused before continuing. "...this ceremony cannot continue." Those words shattered whatever hope Aurora had left. She slowly removed the veil from her head. Her trembling fingers unclasped it before she folded it carefully and placed it on one of the chairs beside the altar. She refused to let anyone see her break. Lifting the hem of her wedding gown slightly, she turned toward her family. "I'm sorry." Charles' heart broke at the sight of his daughter blaming herself. "You've done nothing wrong." He reached for her hand. "We're leaving together." Aurora gently shook her head. "No, Dad." "I need... I need a moment." Before anyone could stop her, she walked down the aisle alone. Each step felt heavier than the last. The grand cathedral doors opened. Aurora stumbled out of the cathedral, barely able to hold back her tears. The reporters rushed toward her . "Miss Sinclair, what really happened?" "Did Sebastian Hayes call off the wedding?" "Is the video true?" She ignored them and kept walking. Suddenly, the sound of approaching engines drew everyone's attention. A convoy of black luxury cars rolled through the church gates and the rear door of the lead car opened. A tall man dressed in a perfectly tailored charcoal-gray suit stepped out. His commanding presence silenced the crowd. Without sparing anyone a glance, he walked directly toward Aurora. Stopping in front of her, the stranger met her confused gaze. "I've finally found you," he said calmly. Aurora blinked. "I'm sorry... do I know you?" The man gave a faint smile. "No." He paused before saying the words that left the entire crowd speechless. "But you're my wife.”
