Chapter Three: Learning to survive

It was past five in the morning, dinnnnnnnnggggg! Dinnnnnnnnngggg! Ashley's phone rang, she had set an alarm to wake them up before the Chinese restaurant owner came to find them at the back of her shop.

She opened her eyes lazily and yawned heavily, Mia? Michelle? She called , Let's go ... The trio walked down the market street. It's a new day, Ashley said, and sighed. Suddenly, her eye caught a poster. It reads

Vacancy! Vacancy! Vacancy! Bartender needed. You must be experienced. Mia? Michelle? Wait here for me , don't go anywhere, okay? They both nodded Mia, look after Michelle. Ashley instructed. I am coming. Ashley said and entered the bar.

Hello, Miss, what can we offer you? The bar owner, Mr Tai, asked. Well ..... I am here for the job? I saw the vacant post outside, so I decided to apply for it in person. Of course, she said calmly.

well, I am Mr Tai, the bar owner. He said gently," I am Ashley by name sir . So, Ashley, have you ever done this job before?? He asked, shooting sharp gazes at Ashley.

Well.....umm.. Yea.... actually I haven't, but I am a fast learner. I can serve drinks, I do know a lot about service. After all, I studied food science at Harvard University, so I am very talented and well-learned.

She said, blinking her eyes and adjusted her hair to the side. Mr Tai looked at Ashley from head to toe. She does have the right shape," he said inwardly. How old are you? He asked." I am twenty-three. Ashley replied with bright eyes, hungrily seeking approval for the job.

I'll give you the job, but on one condition: you have to serve my customers very well. You'll give it your all..... even if it meant giving them your body to satisfy them? And, of course, you'll get paid for that.

Ashley's face grew cold, and she was indecisive for a moment. She then looked at her siblings outside. Mr tai? I'll take the job," she replied. Good! Brave girl, you start at 10 tomorrow. I did it for them. I have to send them back to school and ensure their comfort as well. They're still kids. Five years old!

dad! Mom! Please help me. Ashley prayed in her head. They wandered around the market street for a while and finally it was dark. The long-awaited time is here!! Ashley said, looking tired. It really sucks to be homeless girls," she said to her siblings.

Definitely sucks," Mia said.they unwrapped the folded tent and placed some clothes in it for comfort.the twins slept quietly inside the tent while Ashley slept outside the tent on guard. I have to be strong for myself and these kids. That's what my parents would have wanted.

Come what may, I'll do what I have to do to raise them and collect my father's property from Gabriel. Ashley said in her head before finally falling asleep.

AFTER LONG QUIET HOURS...............

It's finally morningggggg, Ashley said," Yawning, Oh it's past five, I still have a few more hours. She zipped down the tent and checked on the twins. I need to bathe them, change their clothes to something simple, find a place for them to stay while I go to work. Ashley said with a determined face.

She remembered seeing a public toilet on their way to the Chinese restaurant's backyard. Immediately, she sprang into action. She took the twins to a bath there and cleaned them up thoroughly and neatly.she took her bath and headed to pack their stuff at the back of the restaurant.

Mia? Michelle? Listen.... sister has a job now and this job will land us a place to lay our heads and fund your school fees. So I need you to behave well so that I can work well and earn money for us Ashley said to her innocent-looking siblings.

Okay sister.! They said," I'll leave you guys with Mrs Yang, the Chinese noodle restaurant owner. Don't forget, behave! Behave ! Okay ?
