It was a quiet afternoon , but today felt different. Alvin, 12 and restless, sat in the corner looking glum. James had gone to court, leaving Alvin alone for the day, and Alvin had little interest in spending time with his mother. Jacky noticed his friend’s mood and decided to break the silence.
“Hey, Alvin,” Jacky said, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. “Why don’t you come over to my place? I think you could use some cheering up.”
Alvin glanced up, managing a faint smile. “Alright.”
As they entered Jacky’s house, they heard laughter from the living room. Jacky’s sister, Avery, was sitting there with her best friend, Emily, both chatting excitedly.
“Hey, Avery,” Jacky called out. “Where’s Chase?”
“Oh, big brother is out with Jenny,” Avery replied with a grin.
At that moment, Kavin entered the room with a friendly wave. A tall, confident presence by his side caught everyone’s attention.
“Hey, everyone!” Kavin greeted warmly, his eyes meeting Avery’s and Emily’s first.
“Oh, so you forgot about me?” Jacky laughed, nudging him. “You’re here greeting my sister before your best friend?”
Kavin shot back a playful smirk. “How could I ever forget you, Jacky? You’re my best friend, after all.” He placed a hand on his younger brother’s shoulder, bringing him forward. “Anyway, I wanted to introduce you all to my younger brother, Navin.”
Navin, taller and more serious-looking, gave a nod to the group. Jacky extended a hand with a grin. “Nice to meet you, Navin. I’m Jacky.”
Navin’s gaze lingered a moment on Jacky’s face before he gave a soft smile, grasping his hand in a firm handshake. “Good to meet you too.”
Jacky then gestured to each friend, introducing them in turn. “This is Alvin, my friend,” he said, giving Alvin a reassuring nudge, “and that’s my sister Avery, and her friend Emily.”
Navin acknowledged each introduction with a polite nod. It was clear he had a reserved nature, and the group sensed a certain quiet intensity about him.
The room settled into a comfortable silence, everyone curious yet cautious with their new connections, as if each sensed that this new meeting would mark a change in their lives in ways they hadn’t yet imagined.
