Chapter 5:-

The soft rays of dawn broke through the curtains, illuminating the room with a gentle glow. James stirred awake, blinking against the light, and took a moment to gather his thoughts. The familiar hum of the morning filled the air, mingling with the distant sounds of the city coming to life. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, his feet meeting the cool wooden floor. After stretching, he padded across the room to the bathroom, splashing cold water on his face to shake off the remnants of sleep. The mirror reflected the lines of weariness etched on his face, a stark reminder of the last decade of challenges. Brushing his teeth, James’s mind wandered. He thought about the responsibilities weighing on his shoulders, the secrets that lurked in the shadows of his life. After finishing up, he moved to the kitchen, brewing a strong cup of coffee. The rich aroma filled the air, grounding him for the day ahead. With his coffee in hand, he took a moment to look out the window. The world outside buzzed with life, a stark contrast to the tumult within him. After a quick breakfast—a simple plate of toast and eggs—he finished dressing in a fitted black shirt and jeans, readying himself for the day. --- After taking a deep breath, James grabbed his jacket and stepped out of the house, heading towards the hidden entrance of his secret lair. It was a place he had discovered in his youth, a sanctuary where he had first learned to harness his powers of infinity. The door creaked open, revealing a dimly lit room filled with artifacts and memories from his past. He stepped inside, the familiar scent of aged wood and dust welcoming him like an old friend. As he settled into his favorite chair, he leaned back, letting the weight of the last ten years wash over him. So much had changed, and yet, here he was, still grappling with the same burdens. “Ten years,” he murmured to himself, his voice echoing slightly in the silence. “And what do I have to show for it? A life filled with secrets and lies.” A bitter laugh escaped him as he thought about Linda. “That b***h Linda,” he scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief. “What does she think of herself? She can’t even manage her own finances but expects me to fund her insatiable greed.” He clenched his jaw, frustration bubbling beneath the surface. “And to pretend she cares for Alvin? It’s pathetic.” James’s thoughts turned to his son. He had seen Alvin’s growing dissatisfaction with Linda, her unpredictable absences, and her apparent lack of concern for their child. “She spends my money on her vulgar self while Alvin sits alone,” he ranted, his anger simmering. “And those late-night outings? What the hell is she doing? I can’t help but feel like I’m losing control of everything.” He let out a heavy sigh, raking his fingers through his hair. “There’s something about her. I’ve noticed… she does not have any power , but how does that explain Alvin’s healing powers?” James felt a wave of confusion wash over him. “An immortal and a mortal can’t produce an immortal child. I’m the guardian for a reason, and it feels like I’m piecing together a puzzle with missing parts.” His voice grew more determined, fueled by a sense of purpose. “I need to find out the truth. If Alvin isn’t my son, then whose is he?” With that thought hanging heavy in the air, James felt the weight of his responsibilities deepen. Secrets lay in wait, and he would not rest until he uncovered them
