Vampires

Valerie "What is that supposed to mean? Why are you the same?" I think now im more confused than ever. Lyx sighed before he answered. "I'm a vampire, Valerie. I dont age, I dont change, I am exactly as I am, and how I always will be." So calm like I wouldn't react. I tried to get up and run, but at some point during him talking, he had grabbed my wrist. He was ready to tell me and ready for me to run. This man knows me better than myself, and I hate it. "Valerie relax and sit down. I will not hurt you." I had no reason to believe he would, right? If he was going to why cook for me? Why explain everything to me and watch over me for years? I slowly sat back down on the couch but he didnt let go of my wrist. "I said I was here for you, and that is true. I am not here to hurt you." He looked at me with pleading eyes. I knew they existed, everyone knows but they aren't open about it and there aren't many of them. Then it hit me. If he was a vampire and my parents adopted him... and they know he hasn't aged... "My parents...?" I trailed off, he knows what I am asking. "Yes." Simple, no explanation, just a simple answer. So how long have they been vampires? Did he turn them, how did they have me? How does that even work? "Calm down, I am tired of you getting worked up!" His face was stern and there was a small flash of regret before it hardened. "Sorry, but you aren't very good at eplain sometimes. I have so many questions. How did they have me? How old are they? ... How old are you? .." I couldn't help it, I once again exploded with questions. "They turned over 500 years ago, I turned 300 years ago. They turned me when my parents begged them to save my life, and when they did, my parents turned their backs on me. So they took me in. Males can still have children while females rarely can. So they looked into the bloodline and found a relative who was willing for a price." He waited for me to process the information, probably knowing I had more questions. "My parents saved you, and your parents abandoned you?" That's all I could think. Odd when my whole life was turned upside down by this man, and I am more concerned with his well-being. "Yes, I was sick with no cure, and back then, it was looked upon as witchcraft. When my parents realized what they were doing, they no longer wanted me. I was 8 at the time. They were giving me their blood to keep my symptoms at bay, but when I became a suitable age, it was decided that I would join the family and become father's heir, should he wish to retire. Although that is unlikely, unless I fulfill his request." He looked at me hesitantly. "What request, and why would a vampire need an heir?" "Vampires live long enough that things start to bore them so being incharge of all that eventually you wish to pass it on to a trusted member. The request is why I am here. You have always been mine since birth Valerie. I am to find you and bring you home." "Thats all you just have to bring me home? So what's the big deal?" "Valerie, we are supposed to marry and connect the bloodline. I have to be family to get the title or else it will be denied by council. That is why they had you, and that is why I kept you away. You would have been raised for one thing and one thing only..." He looked at me with sympathy in his eyes. " Whats that? To marry you?" You have got to be kidding I am not just a piece of property! "To rule beside me, Princess." I heard him say princess last night, but I thought I was just too tired and was hearing things. "Valerie, I know this is way more than I planned to discuss tonight, but your father is king of the vampires of this sector. There were 7 sectors, but father overtook 2 of them. when word got out that the largest and most powerful sector was going to be handed over to a different lineage, there was an emergency meeting 60 years ago. They discussed that it was an unspoken rule that there were only 2 ways to rule a sector, and that was bloodline or overthrow. If father wanted me to take over, I had to kill him. The other kings and leaders were hoping that meant he would just give up because they knew mother couldn't have children they tried for hundreds of years, and it almost broke them. The others were hoping my father would be distracted enough that he would make a mistake and they could take him, but that never worked. What they didn't know was that Mother was already tracking her blood to find a match. You were born into the bloodline. You are already part vampire, of course dormant because you haven't been turned. No one knew you were born, so no one could try to hurt you." Wow. I thought I was done learning new things today but apparently I'm supposed to marry a man I just met, who has been watching over me for years so that the pressure of being raised as royalty wouldnt ruin my childhood. My mom isn't my mom she is my nanny. My real mom also isn't my mom because she can't have kids by some supernatural turn of events, and my dad is alive, but not because he's a vampire. Yet all I can think about, like some romance cliché is that this man did everything he could to give me what I deserved before he even knew me. God am I that desperate for love?
