Valerie
I got sick of waiting. I had pretty much cleaned the entire house and tried to redo my room. I realized that it was as I left it 7 years ago and was embarrassed that he saw my teenage room. It looked like I was a boy crazed teen, which I never really was. I've had 2 boyfriends my whole life, and they both dumped me for something better.
Grabbing some old clothes out of my dresser, since I didn't pack much when I found out, I headed to the bathroom. Just what I need, a warm shower to collect my thoughts before I go make dinner. I've tried to keep all my thoughts at bay by staying busy, but mentally, I'm a mess. I turn the knob for the hot what as my phone starts ringing.
Lyx flashes across the screen.
with the small amount of courage I can muster, I hit decline. I need a shower so bad that I dont care if he has to wait for me. I climb in and let the water run over my face. The steam builds up as I stay in there long enough to clear my head. My fingers had started to prune when I turned the water off.
I am wrapping a towel around myself when the knob to the bathroom door starts to turn. I pale instantly scared. As it flies open, a very angry Lyx is standing in the doorway fuming.
"Hi?" All i manage to get out before he takes one step closer... now two... then one more, and he is in my face huffing.
"Hi?Hi! I called you, and you ignored me!" Oh no, he is pissed really pissed.
"What do you have to say for yourself? I have been waiting an hour!"
"I'm sorry? Why are you in my house?" I dont know what else to say. He is the one barging in on my life, not the other way around.
"You're sorry? It's my house!" Instant regret flashed across his face before it turned back to its default setting of stone cold.
"Your house?" I whisper because, of course, there are more things I dont know. What next?
Lyx
Shit I didn't mean to let that slip, but it's the only way that I could protect her. I needed access to the house at all times and if she didn't know who I was, I wouldn't be able to do that.
"Valerie, I'm sorry. I bought the house for Susan to keep you safe and way from people." At this point, there is no sugar coating things. She'll learn everything eventually.
"Get out!"
"Excuse me?"
"Get out of the bathroom so I can get dressed, please? So we can talk when I am not in a towel." Her cheeks blushes as I suddenly turned around, forgetting she had just gotten out of the shower.
"Sorry, I will go. Meet me downstairs?" I asked as I closed the door behind me.
"Yeah sure fine." She sighed, and with a click of the door, I made my way downstairs. I had brought her dinner, so I took it out to the kitchen and heated it up. At least she could eat while I filled her full of information. It is gonna be another long night for her. Even though I know it's a lot, I am secretly happy that I get to finally interact with her. Even if it means I have to come here every night. One day, we will leave this place, and she will be where she belongs, but I am getting ahead of myself.
Valerie
I have all the proof I need to finally believe him, so I just sit and agree to listen. As I sit on the couch, I am now acutely aware that my high school clothes seem 2 sizes to small. My shorts are riding up, and my top looks like it's about to spill out. I try pulling my shorts down as he walks into the room, holding two plates of food. His eyes immediately flick to what my hands are doing, and I feel my face turn red. He clears his throat and sit the plates on the coffee table, and sits next to me.
"I figured you could eat while I talk?" Immediately, my stomach betrays me, and let's put a loud growl, he smirks.
"Fine." I pretend to not be happy about it, but as I pick up the plate, I smell the aroma coming off it. I twirl the pasta onto my fork and take a bite and practically moan. Turning bright red, I look up to see Lyx is watching me.
"It's carbonara. I made it myself."
As I continued to eat the delicious meal in front of me, I listened to Lyx talk. He explained why susan took me, thinking I would have a better life. Why he let her keep me for the same reason she took me. How he was technically my adopted brother, but something about it was complicated. Apparently, his family left him behind, and my family took him in. How they never thought about kids but decided they wanted a baby, so they used modern technology to have me. So technically, I am my dads daughter, and mom's distant relative carried me. Something about bloodlines. Lyx tended to go too fast and to drift off topic. But one thing still wasn't adding up... why hadn't he aged?
Now he has finished talking and I have finished my meal.
"Do you have any questions I didn't answer?" He looks at me and waits patiently as I think of how to ask.
"Ummm.... Th.. the.. picture you sent me?" I stumbled over my words, not sure what to say.
"Ah, yeah, I knew that was going to be confusing, but I was hoping that it would help you believe me." He looked at me, waiting for me to say it first.
"Why? Why do you look..." My eyebrows furrowed together, and I couldn't find the words. It sounds so silly out loud. He brought his hand up and traced a circle over where my eyebrows met.
"Stop thinking so hard, Valerie, it's quite simple. Why do I look the same? Because I am. I haven't changed." He said it with such a cocky air like that would clear everything up, but it didn't. Not one d*mn bit.
