Chapter 44

1121 Words
Adaline's POV After two days of intense training between myself and Selena, we are finally getting a break this morning before resuming after dinner. I almost have my elemental abilities down. Commanding has been my easiest to learn. I'm working on my healing. We found out we can heal who we want, as long as it is not too destructive. I can't reproduce parts or anything like that, but I can't heal severe wounds. Fortunately, I haven't had to see if I can heal on the brink of death or death, but I am hoping for packs' sake we can. Since we get the morning off I have been packing a picnic basket full of items for Sebastian, Sophia, Heather, Sam, Sawyer, Holden, Barrett, James and myself to head off for a morning and afternoon of beach fun. It was originally just supposed to be the 5 of us, but James has been more attached to Heather and the guys felt it best to have constant protection even if we were staying on pack lands. I was going over my check list when I heard someone enter the kitchen. Sophia walked over to see the spread I had put together. "Need any help?" She asked as she started packing the plates and utensils. "That would be great thanks". It wasn't like I was in love with Sebastian the way I was before. I still loved him. He is the father of my son, but at the same time, he has lived this whole other life and now has another baby on the way. I have been finding it hard to talk to Sophia these past few days even though talking to Sebastian is like second nature, no problem. "Would it be okay if we talked?" She asked hesitantly as she started packing the salads and sandwiches. Was I ready to talk to her? "Stop it Adaline, she is the alpha of Red Moon, mate to Sebastian and now family to us whether we were prepared or not." I hate it when she's right. I sighed "listen Sophia, I wanted to apologize." I was in the middle of making cookies when she whipped her head towards me "you apologize, why? That's what I am trying to do." As I placed the cookies in the oven, I walked over to her, placed my hand on her shoulders and looked her square in the eyes "because I have not been too welcoming or frankly nice to you these past two days, that has not been fair to you, not one bit. I should be thanking you, you saved Sebastian and brought him home to James and I, even if it is a bit different now. I should be happy that James now has four going on five people to love him and be there for him. That is all thanks to you. So I am sorry, can we start over?" I said while backing up and holding my hand out. She started giggling with tears in her eyes and nodded. Holding her hand in mine, "I would like that very much." I then hugged her. "Okay, now what is your favorite food right now? I tried to think of everything about that. I have two salads, three types of sandwiches, since eating sandwich meat is frowned on while pregnant, I also grabbed crackers, hard cheese, fruits and some veggies. I also made my special oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with my secret ingredient." I looked around making sure no one was there to listen, "since you will have James at times, its best you know to make them right." I giggled out "cinnamon. Dont worry, though these cookies are good, not like regular gross oatmeal cookies." We were both in fits of laughter as the guys walked in. "Mmmm I smell cookies" Sebastian sang as he walked over to the ones cooling on the counter, "dont mind if I do, I have missed these little cinnamon babies." "What, you knew what was in them?" I said, shocked, my eyes wide. "Of course, I may have sneaked a peak when you were making them." I stuck my tongue out at him and Heather came in carrying James. "Everyone is ready at the cars, I am going to get him buckled in." Barrett picked up the basket and everyone else grabbed other essentials however none of us allowing Sophia to grab anything "seriously guys I am an alpha, just pregnant I am not fragile you know!" The drive to the beach was less than 15 minutes, this pack really had it all. It was a beautiful private beach with crystal blue water that went out forever, and we were able to walk out at least three miles while it only went up to our calves. I sat the blankets up and pulled out the snack foods while everyone was out in the water playing "you didn't want to go swim? "I asked Barrett as he sat down beside me "mmm not right now, I am enjoying the view" he growled out as I took my shirt and shorts off to sunbathe. "Down boy" I laughed while watching everyone enjoy themselves. He pulled me to him and kissed me deep, finally letting me come up for air "I have been so proud of you and all you have accomplished these last few days. I know it hasn't been easy for you, but you have taken it on like the true Luna you are. You continue to amaze me and I love you so very much." The sincerity in his eyes says it all for me though "I kissed him deeply", earning a deep growl. The morning went on from there with everyone getting to know one another, the guys going over dumb manley wolf things and us girls going over pregnancy and baby things while the little ones ate and played. Sophia asked all the questions and Heather and I tried our best to answer. I left out no nitty-gritty details, though as I have always been one to tell the truth when it comes to labor, I'm a firm believer in knowing it all before it is done. We want to do a baby shower for both before we leave to go back to our homes, so I will get that set up with help from Rachel and Renee. Honestly, I couldn't imagine my life now without all these people. I am looking around and my love, who can't keep his eyes off me, my best friend who has his mate lovingly in his arms with James, and my new family. I would do everything in my power to keep them all safe, Selena nodded in agreement.
