Barrett's POV
It had been three days since Adaline shifted to Selena. She has been in a coma-like state and it has been torture. She was the most beautiful wolf I had ever seen. She was pure white except for a silver crescent moon that passed through her right eye. I have been by her side at night but, as promised, I have not let James out of my sight during the day. We have gotten quite close though, as I have been the best distraction for him when he thinks or talks about his mom. Beck has helped obviously, but I also didn't want her giving him anything that even caused slight memory loss, not that she would, but you never know with little kids, especially humans. It has given me insight into how kids really are. I mean I've seen and been around Sawyer his whole little life, but I never really had to take care of him.
Currently we are outside the Lotus, pack house wandering their garden. It is impressive, they had everything you could think of growing here. I guess to keep them within the packlands as much as possible. James was currently devouring the strawberries we were picking for breakfast but hardly any were making it into our basket. I chuckled at the red stains all over his face. "James, buddy, we have to save some for the rest of the pack as well." He slowly lowered the strawberry he was about to bite into the basket. He smiled up at me "sorry I am hungry and these are really, really, REALLY good." I couldn't help but laugh at them emphasis on the last really, I pretended to look around all sneaky like, dropped to a knee and leaned in close to whisper "okay strawberry bandit, one more adn then we have to flee before the cops come and get us." His little face lit up he was in a fit of laughter as he grabbed a strawberry and starting running like a ninja towards the house. "He is quite the kid huh," Shaw was thinking the same as I "Yes he is." I started walking back to the house as well "you love him like I do?" Not sure why he had to ask or maybe it was a thought "Yes, Shaw yes I do." Maybe even more, he scoffed and rolled his eyes.
I got him all set up with breakfast and chatted with David. I wasn't fond of the fact that his wolf was Adaline's past mate, but I am no longer one to question the Moon Goddess, so I know he only means to help take care of her. The past two days, I have had our warriors arrive to watch and train with theirs and so far everyone has gotten along amazingly and both packs have traded training tips. Our warriors were sitting with theirs for every meal. It seemed like just trying to get as much information as possible. I noticed Anthony stopped in for food, "Morning Anthony how's it going at the hospital?" He bowed. "Morning alpha, good the doctor had stopped to get some vitals and things so she said I could run and grab a quick bite." I smiled and nodded "good, yes eat up, I wanted to thank you for standing guard at the hospital, I think in a little bit I am going to bring James up to see her again." He smiled to me "of course alpha, like I said it's my honor to protect our luna." He started off with his plate.
After a while of the boys playing together with some of the kids around the pack, I grabbed James and we headed to the hospital. On the way though, I got a link from Anthony "ALPHA, come quick." My heart stopped. I scooped James up and started running. Usually it was a short distance away, usually when I brought James we would read some of his favorite books allowed to Adaline. I busted through the door and headed towards the alpha wing where they had her set up. Joseph was sitting outside the room with Anthony, "What's going on?" I was practically losing my mind to them. Anthony stood a little straighter after that, "sorry I didn't mean to command." He bowed, "the doctor went in again to check on her and said to call you straight away that she started to stir." Jospeh made a movement to take James. I held onto him tighter. "No if she is waking up, he needs to be in there as well, you as well, Joseph, let's go."
We walked into the room, there was no sound besides the beeping of machines and the scribbling of whatever the doctor was writing. "Alpha" she nodded. "I noticed her vitals changing and her hands were moving a bit more. So I wanted you here as she woke up. It looks like any minute now." I walked with James over to the bed. Joseph stood off to the side, "James sit there and take her hand. I'll take her other, then start to talk to her okay." He nodded and grabbed her hand, "momma, can you wake up from your nap now please, I want you too. I miss you." I felt so bad for him as I am pretty sure, aside from daycare, he has never been away from his mom. He has done so good these last few days though and listened to everything that I explained to him about the situation. "Good job buddy, I think its working." I placed a kiss on her forehead "come on baby we are right here, just open your eyes please." I felt her squeeze my hand and James squeeled "momma!" Then I looked and her eyes were open and glowing purple.
