My Accidental Luna

Chapter 12

Barrett's POV

I am more nervous than I thought I was going to be as we walked silently down the back yard path to the garden. It's no surprise Beck has the best backyard and garden around as she needs a lot of special herbs and things for her potions and creams. I am pretty sure though magic has a lot to do with the upkeep and longevity of the garden. We approached the garden chair swing and I helped her up the small ledge to the swing seat. We sat down across from each other just sort of staring at one another. Okay Barrett it is now or never. "Don't worry she is our mate she will accept us, the bond will help as well" Shaw tried to reassure me, "but what if she doesn't, she is human she does not feel the bond like we do" I was pretty convinced she would never talk to us again. "Remember what the Moon Goddess we are meant to be together, she was made for us specifically and will make us strong. You have to trust her and believe in her." I know he's right but damn it really doesn't feel like this is going to go in my favor.

"Are you feeling okay?" she brought me out of my thoughts with her concern,"You seemed a little spaced out there". "Yeah, just thinking to myself, I tend to do that quite a bit" I laughed to calm us both down. "I know I said I wanted to come out here to get to know you better, which I do, but I also would like to let you know about me." I practically whispered, why am I acting like this? Come on Barrett, you are the strongest alpha around. Stop acting like a scared teenager. She started to smile and, with a little giggle, "Okay, so are we going to do a twenty-question type deal or are you going to just come all out with it? Wait are you married? Is that why you're being suspicious? Oh my goodness you have a whole family don't you?" She was practically up and about to run. "NO" maybe that was too harsh. "Sorry no, no. I am not married and I don't have a secret family or anything" I was practically rolling this time. "Thank goodness, I mean when Heather was trying to convince me to go on a date with you. My impression was you were single, and I am not into those kinds of relationships where there are multiple partners." She sat back down. "HEATHER DID WHAT" I practically shouted loud enough for Heather to hear me. "Yeah she basically asked me on a date for you last night before that creep came over, I do have some questions about that by the way" this time she was giving me that mother look, you know the one where the kid did something bad and didn't think their parent would find out but they knew all along, yeah that look. It made me sink down on the seat. I am definitely in trouble with this one.

"I am sure you do. First I want to thank you again for putting your foot down and getting them to bring me here. I plan on explaining everything that happened last night and pretty much why it all happened." I looked at her cautiously and she nodded for me to continue. "Well, first, my name is Barrett Micheal Blue and it is nice to meet you Adaline. I am 24 and very unmarried. I actually was positive I never wanted to be married. Well, that was up until a few days ago. My family owns quite a few businesses here in town as well as some hotels within the area. I guess I do now, since everything was passed down to me. I have one sibling and that is Holden, but Sam is like a brother we're only a month apart and grew up together." She seemed interested but definitely looked like she was about to ask several questions. "If you do not tell mate now I will come out and force you to tell her" Shaw had never sounded more serious. "You wouldn't dare" I shot back " oh yeah, try me" he is 100 percent serious.

Fuck it is so much harder when your mate is human and she has no idea about us. "So are you going to explain all the weird things I have noticed in the last two days?" she asked with one eyebrow c****d. "Weird things?" I questioned her. "Barrett, don't play dumb with me" I honestly had no idea what she was talking about aside from the club last night, "fine if I have to treat you like James, for starters the fact that I have heard numerous times the word pack, which I assumed was like group for friends at first but now I'm not so sure. Then there is the constant bowing of heads from Sam, Holden and Heather. I even asked Heather when she did it to me last night if she was in trouble and she just laughed at me and said you would explain. Then the guy last night said I did not have a mark, which I still have no idea what that means, and LAST I heard you murderously scream "DONT EVER TOUCH WHAT IS MINE." She said that in a very mocking voice I had to stifle a laugh. "I need answers NOW, and I mean it Barrett, especially since I am not yours and you do not claim me". Yep, she was livid and the last part hurt my heart, but I know it is only because she doesn't know that she is actually mine and I am hers. Also, I am extremely impressed she caught all of that since most humans ignore the weird things we do or just plain do not notice. She is a luna though, so she is going to have those tendencies.

"Wow, okay, lots of questions, so I want you to promise me you will be open-minded. Can you do that?" she took a second to think and I got a little worried. "Yes, I can try my best to be open-minded" here goes nothing. "So my family is not, let's say normal. My family is extremely powerful." This is proving to be way harder than I planned. "JUST DO IT" Shaw was really impatient because he wanted his mate and knew he couldn't have her until she knew the truth. "The truth is" the rest came out so fast. I was even confused. "I am an alpha, I am a werewolf, I can transform into a wolf when I want to. His name is Shaw. I lead my pack, which is called the Crescent Blue Moon Pack. We have over 1200 pack members, ours is the largest and strongest in the country. You are my mate, my other half and will be the Luna of my pack. Together we will take care of and protect our pack members. Sam, Holden and Heather are all wolves as well." I looked at her and she just started laughing, I mean really laughing. She absolutely does not believe me.

"I knew it, I knew you were too good to be true, you're absolutely insane. I knew having James meet you and your friends was a bad idea, once again people he meets and adores will be out of his life. I can't believe I let this happen." She was now up and pacing around the garden. What do I do now? How am I going to fix this? She is never going to talk to me again. I was panicking pretty badly when I felt myself start to turn. "What the hell are you doing, Shaw?" he was shifting us. "I will not lose mate, I will show her that we're telling the truth." I could not stop him. He was shifting and she was now staring at us wide-eyed. "Shaw, you will scare her away. She is not ready yet", but no amount of pleading helped. Then I was standing on all four paws. "HOLY s**t" was all she could say. She was about to pass out when Shaw ran to her and started licking her face to calm her down. Everyone ran out at this point and Beck looked pissed. James, however, was running right at me. "WOW mommy is he our puppy?" Shaw grunted but lay down. James was now petting us. "JAMES GET AWAY" she was yelling at him. "It's okay Ad, he won't hurt him. James is forever protected by him", Beck said while placing her hands on Adaline's shoulder.
