Chapter 1
It was a beautiful sunny day, as little Olivia stood at the doorstep of her new home. Her family had to leave their hometown for reasons beyond the understanding of a 6-year old Liv. All she knew was that she had to leave behind everything she had known for 5 years... It wasn't easy but she was brave and generally nice to everyone. She would soon meet new neighbors, new friends and yes, she was starting school in a few days... She was deep in her thoughts when she saw a car stop at the house next door and 2 kids ran out shouting and jumping. A young girl around her age, with chestnut hair in two plaits and the seemingly older one, a boy, with dark brown hair and brown eyes that seemed to be smiling with mischief. He was taller and holding a toy over his head which his little sister was trying to reach. She jumped and jumped without success. She finally gave up, pouted and walked away.. "Huh... what a brat, teasing his lil sister", thought Liv. That's when she saw, the little boy ran after the girl, gave her the toy and also pulled out a chocolate from his pocket and gave it to the girl. He pulled his ears and started doing sit-ups making the lil girl giggle with joy. Liv couldn't stop her giggle too. That's when the boy turned around and saw the green-eyed girl standing in the garden of the long-abandoned house next door. She had the prettiest green eyes he had seen and her giggle the sweetest sound he had heard in 8 years of his life. He smiled at her but the girl looked spooked as she turned around and ran inside. "Weird girl", he said. His little sister Alice turned to see who he was looking at. At the same time, their mom called them inside for dinner and both kids ran inside. "Mom, are those people our new neighbors?", the boy, Dean, asked his mom while looking out the window at the old house. "Yes, I presume. How about we visit them and find out tomorrow? It's late. Off to bed now." She picked a sleepy Alice from the couch and took them both upstairs to their bedrooms. As soon as he closed his door, he ran to his window. It had a direct view of the old house. In fact his window opened directly in front of a large window along the side of the old house. He looked at the closed window and thought about the little green eyed girl in the garden. She had looked so sweet giggling at his and Alice's entics... but why did she run away? May be she was shy... Anyways he was tired after a long day at zoo and picnic with his family and couldn't wait to go to sleep. He shut his window and jumped on his bed dozing off in seconds. Little Liv opened her notebook, and started drawing. That was a habit she had from how long, she couldn't remember. Her mother had given her the notebook on her fourth birthday and told her that she had a similar notebook in which she wrote everyday about anything she felt like. It was a freeing experience. And ever since that day Liv started making drawings in her notebook, coz of course she was too young to write. But a picture is worth a thousand words. So she drew.. to her heart's content. But no one was allowed to see them. Today she drew eyes, beautiful brown eyes staring at her from a distance. Those eyes had instantly had a pull on her, that her young mind couldn't comprehend. So she ran back inside the safety of her home, if you could call this old house that. So far it was just 'our new place' as her mother had told her. She saw a window in the room and curiously opened it, only to realise it was stuck. She made a mental note to tell her parents about the stuck window in the morning and then went to bed and tried to sleep. But she wasn't comfortable in the new place or her new room and new bed, so it was going to be a sleepless night.... Next morning, as Dean ran down the stairs into the kitchen, he saw his mother laying out the breakfast and his father ready for work. It was a weekend but his father was always working as their enterprise had multiple branches in various cities that he had to manage. And he traveled a lot. But he was not a negligent or absentee father. He dotted on his kids. And after all he was working for providing them the best of everything. Dean wanted to be like him when he grew up. Yeah... not really. He wanted to follow his passion, his first love... music. As per his mom, he had music in his bones. He started playing instruments at a young age of 4 and now could play at least 4 or 5 different instruments with perfection. He had a beautiful voice too. He could make anyone cry... with his music. He was weirded out first when his aunt cried after listening to him, like was he really that bad?? But his mother reassured that those were happy tears and that they were proud of him. And since that day he knew he was born to do this. Around 10, his mom called him and Alice and told them that it was time to visit the new neighbors. She asked Dean if he wanted to come along. He wanted to but refused. Big boys don't visit new neighbors looking to make friends. Nah... he was too cool for that. "Fine. I will just take Alice. Be a good boy and don't make any mischief until i come back. Can you do that?" "Sure mom", he replied absent mindedly. Suddenly he was thinking about the green eyed girl. It was the perfect time to find out about her. Maybe he should have accompanied his mother. But she was already gone. From the window he could see his mother ringing the bell, a young woman opened the door and welcomed them inside. But he couldn't find the person he wanted to see... his green eyes.
