Jesse paced back and forth, a shroud of uneasiness settled firmly upon her shoulders. Levi, agitated by her distress, had taken to sitting on one of the boughs, maybe so he could alert her with an unpleasant growl when Alec finally returned. She was certain he only sat out there so his snarl could echo through the air and calm her when he came into view. She had tried to sleep, but the nightmares kept her awake. She kept hearing Alec shouting for her, screaming her name, making her startle awake, but only the chorus of night creatures could be heard serenading the air. She had decided to give him one more hour, one more hour, and she and Levi would search for him themselves.
