Aliyah’s POV Asher and I followed Papa closely, not saying a word. The night seemed colder now, heavier, like the darkness itself was holding its breath. I could hear the crunch of gravel beneath our shoes, the uneven rhythm of Papa’s steps, and the faint hiss of his breathing. He was in pain, but he kept walking as if nothing had happened. When we reached home, he went straight to his room and shut the door before either of us could speak. I turned to Asher, my heart pounding. “What do we do?” I whispered. He shook his head. “We wait.
