Maya POV
“What do you mean more than I love Maya?” Fred questioned and continued. “You know how much I love you so dearly, right from highschool. Nothing can make me love you less. You are my first love and will be my last!”
My knees suddenly grew weak with tears gathered at the corner of my eyes.
“My husband and my best friend!” I wished I could scream my lungs out but I couldn't. The pain my heart felt at this point was way more than losing an award, the pain of how stupid and gullible I have been all these years.
I rested on the wall, letting the tears drop freely with each of his words cutting deep like a knife had just been pierced into my broken heart.
I should have known there was something going on. How stupid and naive I have become to believe her words. How could I just take her words for it?!
“We were friends during high school”
Those were her words when I introduced Fred. She told me they used to be friends from high school before they graduated and that was all.
I saw how they joke around themselves, how they tease themselves even when I'm around, talking about the old days. It didn't feel just like some ordinary friendship to me.
I was scared, I didn't want to be the insecure person so I communicated with my best friend, but she assured me there was nothing. She said she was going to cut ties with him, so I don't feel uncomfortable in my marriage.
“No, that is not necessary. I mean, because I'm getting married to Fred doesn't mean you should cut ties with me. This could be a beginning of a forever friendship trail”
A fool, that is who I am.
“I know right” Jane's laughter snapped me out of my thoughts. “But till when are we going to continue being this sneaky? It is becoming tiring. I want to tell the whole world that you are mine”
“Just a little more time. I still need her for the surgery, that has been the plan right? And not until then she needs to be on check” Fred responded.
Wow, so this is it” I let out a weak smile with tears rushing out of my eyes. It was all about the surgery, that's all I meant to him. He never loved him, he just needed me to bring out some stupid lump out of his brain.
“Maya, you are so gullible” I thought silently, gently shaking my head . At this point, I don't want confrontation anymore. I mean, what is the point? It's not like it's going to change anything anyways.
I tried to move my step but they have become weaker.
“There are a lot of doctors out there and a lot of them will die to operate on you . You are the Williams”
“No babe, I can't trust my life with anyone but Maya! Just give it a little time”
“What if she tried to leech around, claiming you are alive thanks to her?”
“That's not going to happen. Why do you think I kept taking the awards away from her? I don't want a situation where she will attract so much attention and now complicate things!”
“You son of a b***h!!!!!” I slammed my hand on the door, causing it to widen.
“May!” His eyes popped out, he jotted up, pushing Jane off. “Wait- since when have you been there?” His voice shaking.
“All this while, you only wanted me because of your surgery?! Because of the stupid lump in your head!-
“No, that's not it. You know how much I love you” he said, trying to hold me.
“Don't you dare touch me!” I snapped out, my voice holding with venom. “And you too?” I glanced at Jane
“You are supposed to be my best friend! You said there was nothing between you guys!”
“May- I am- sorry” she replied, her voice held with pity. “It not what you think-
“Is it not what I think?- I chuckled dryly. “Well, all of this isn't enough explanation, You sly! You know what, just have him! You two garbage deserve each other” I spat on the ground.
“And for you? My lawyer will get in touch with you and just so you know, I have all the recorder and files from Director Harrison l. By the time I'm done with you, you’d beg for death!”
I turned to leave when he grabbed my hand from behind “May, please -
I didn't hesitate before my other hand landed on his face heavily. “Get your filthy hands off me” i sprained my hand freely from his grip and then slammed the door heavily behind me.
In a split second, everything and how I ended up here flashed through my head again.
It was one of those times where I took charge of the awareness of cancer education. We received a VIP client, Fred Williams, which I was directed to give full attention to. He seems like he’d given up due to his past trauma. He wouldn't agree to undergo an operation but I was able to persuade him and that was how we started going out together.
“Oh, Maya” I burst into laughter and gradually my lips curled, tears gushing out of my eyes. “s**t!!!!!” I slammed my hand so hard on the car steering.
I put on the car engine and drove down the street, leading to the highway. I channel all the pain in me into the car steering, my hand roughly moving around it in a high speedometer.
All I wanted was a road drive till I finally ease my mind but the sound of my phone ringing felt really disturbing. I glanced at my phone, it was Fred. In one swipe, I already picked the call.
“Stop ringing my phone, you cheating bastard!” I screamed without letting him say anything - “pimm!!!!!” A sudden car horn bagged into my head, causing me to glance at the mirror side.
“s**t” I cursed as I sighted the vehicle from behind moving in a zigzag direction.
I moved my hand around the car steering, my legs stepping on the brakes but nothing was working. I continued to struggle with the brake and gradually the car from behind hit my car and then collided with the forthcoming vehicle making it flip over multiple times before coming to rest.
**********************
“Beep! Beep!" The sound wouldn't stop in my ear; as annoying as it was, I couldn't tell what sound it was exactly.
"Beep beep." I tried to glance in that direction, but I couldn't. My eyes felt heavy, more like a load was placed on it. After so many struggles, I finally flipped it open. I found myself in a strange room with a familiar setting, like a hospital.
“Madam, You are awake!” A feminine voice said, her voice laced with excitement. She rushed towards me looking happy and worried at the same time. “Mrs William” she called out, “Can you hear me? Can you see me?” She asked, waving her hand on my face.
I softly nodded my head, in a response to yes while staring deep into her eyes.
“Doctor!” She called and rushed out.
The door suddenly sprung opened, my face lite up at the face standing next to the Doctor and without hesitation, I jumped out of the bed, rushing towards my husband, Fred.
“Baby!” I called out, my voice filled with excitement as I hugged him tightly.
