Maya POV “May” he called out in his deep but calm voice as he softly unwrapped my hand around him, our eyes now locked into another. “Are you okay?” He questioned, his voice breaking In a strange way, something doesn't feel right with the way he was looking at me, more like he was shocked to see me or he must have been so worried after receiving the news of my incident. “I'm fine” I hugged him back, feeling the warmth of his body because that's exactly what I had craved for at that moment. “I am sorry babe, I should have listened to you not to drive whenever it was raining ” I murmured out as my head flashed back through the last thing that had happened. “What to do you - mean?” he asked, his voice still shaking. I removed my head away from his chest now staring into his eyes. “I was going to wait after I had received your message but I thought of stopping by at the store” “Doctor, what is going on? Rain?! What happened to my wife?” He asked, panicking. “Mr Williams, nothing is happening. We just have to run some tests on her. She had fought two months on that bed alone and I'm sure it is not something easy” the doctor explained further. “Two what?!” My eyes popped out “what do you mean by that? Just yesterday here I was driving home from work before it started raining heavily ""You saw my text right?” I questioned, staring into his eyes but he couldn't say anything nor respond to my question. “I did send you a text! I was still waiting when a truck suddenly appeared from no-where- “That happened three years ago” He interrupted, his voice low, merely above whispering. I suddenly left my hand to fall behind me, and took a step backwards. At this point, I couldn't comprehend what was happening anymore. The last thing I remembered was closing from work after a late night shift and then driving on the highway back home before a truck suddenly appeared which was moving at a high speedometer and now Fred said that had happened to me three years ago?! If truly everything Fred had just said was the truth in which I know it is because he has no reason to lie to me, then it's one thing happening to me which I refused to believed, not until I saw the test results. “According to the test results here, Mrs William has Amnesia!” “What?!” I exclaimed. How come?” Fred added and then glanced at me, his face holding with pity. “The shock from the accident, caused the brain to perplex into the previous incident from three years ago and right now, her brain could only remember things from years up to the point of the previous incident!” “This sure isn't a permanent situation” I didn't know when I murmured that out, my mind still wandering around the incident. “No, it's just a temporary one and with time, you will recover, past incidents should be repeated, either good memories or the other. That could trigger her to remember things” “Mr Williams, please this is an assignment for you” ****************** I opened the window slide, allowing the morning sunlight to penetrate as I stared from the inside. Fred said it is something I always do before I prepare off work. It's been four weeks since I have been repeating the same routine, and nothing has changed, I still can't remember anything. It just feels like my head fades the more I stare at it. “s**t!” I cursed under breath as I angrily closed the window slide. “Fred” I called, rushing down outside the room but my step halted on the stairs when I remembered I am just alone all by myself again. Handling the two biggest companies in the country is not some small task so I had asked him to resume back to work. I mean, it's just some silly memory loss and with time, I'm getting them back. “May” a familiar voice, the one that I have longed for suddenly called my name. “Jane!- “I arrived late night yesterday and I didn't want to disturb your sleep- I rushed down the stairs and hugged her tightly, feeling the warmth of her body, so comforting. “I miss you so much,” I murmured out. A friendship between a doctor and a model, our profession caused our friendship a lot. Thanks to my recent predicament, I am confined in the house and Jane has offered to keep me company after her project. “Fred explained everything to me, I am so sorry” she sympathized, patting my back. “Nah, it's fine. Having you here is enough, with time I will get back on my feet "I responded, waving off the emotion about taking over the atmosphere. The rest of the conversation turned out fun with memories from way back. Painfully, I could tell she was being careful picking on the past but regardless, I was grateful to have her by my side. ********* It's been two months now, and still no progress with remembering those lost years. It was getting frustrating, I tried not to show it because I didn't want to upset my husband and best friend who had gone out of their way to help me. “Hey babe”, my husband Fred called out to me from behind I smiled… “Jane suggested we go to dinner at your favorite restaurant Sally's Place. It might help you in recalling something you know.” “I don't remember Sally's Place.” “Yep, it's a restaurant that opened recently and you've been frequenting it since you discovered it.” “Sounds like a plan.” At the restaurant, it had a leafy and green interior and the ambience was very nice, the scenery was also calm.. It looked like a place someone like me spent a lot of time reading in. Jane and Fred were by my side. I was grateful for them. “So… Mayy.” Jane nudged me as we settled into our seats. “How do you like it here? Do you recall anything?” “Not really jane, but I really appreciate you for the idea. I really needed to get out of the house, you know.” “Oh it's nothing, I only pitched the idea to Fred, he's the one paying for dinner” she teased…. “But you really don't remember? You used to come here a lot.” “No I don't… I'm sad I see your efforts trying to get me to recall my lost years.” I gave her a hug. “ You're a true friend Jane." “Okay, enough of the emotional moment, let's order.” We all laughed. In a short time our food arrived. I loved it. Now I know why I loved this place. The ride back home was quiet and cool. I had just come down from the car when Fred grabbed me carrying me in a bridal style. “Put me down!” I said, giggling. “Nope, can't I carry my wife, plus you're so light I need to feed you more.” “What!” I laughed out loud. Gosh, I love this man. He is just so perfect. ***** I had my bath and changed into my pajamas. With a soft sign I rested my hands on the railing at the top of the stairs looking into the sitting room through the banister. “Is this going to be life now? What if I don't end up remembering my past?” “Hey girl”. Jane came up to me with a glass of wine. “For you.” She offered me the glass with a wide smile on her face “Are you trying to get me drunk?” I chuckled. “Oh come on, one glass of wine won't hurt you, loosen up a little.” I drank the whole glass. “There you go” she threw at me another smile but there is something off about her, something I couldn’t place my hands on and just then I started feeling dizzy. My legs gave out and I rolled down the stairs, causing me to land so hard at the bottom with my head. Everything started spinning, I looked up at Jane who stood with her arm crossed with so much satisfaction on her face. She made no effort to help out and just then everything became blank. ****** I slightly opened my eyes and I jotted up the bed. For a second, I thought I was dead but I was actually in my room. “Babe, you're up. You scared me.” I felt someone hug me from behind, Fred. I recognized his scent. “Oh Maya, what happened? One minute we're talking and the next you're rolling”. Jane said, hugging me after Fred had just let me go. As her arms circled me, I leaned in slightly, my lips brushing her ear. “I see what you're trying to do. How have you been enjoying my man so far?” I whispered.
