The whole time during dinner me and Sam were fidgeting, I mean straight ants in our pants couldn’t sit still. I don’t think I’ve ever inhaled food so fast in my life! We rushed through cleaning the dishes and kitchen about as fast as we rushed through eating. Mama kept side eyeing us and making remarks about how we need to go live in the pig pen with the way we were acting but I think deep down she knows that we know something is going on. She did her usual routine of ploppin’ down on her recliner and watching her shows while eating a bowl of banana pudding and sippin’ some shine. Her and my daddy used to make the best shine in this whole town. I never remembered her drinking when I was younger. It wasn’t until Daddy died that I started noticing her with shine every night.
