|CHAPTER 6~You're insane|
"Where are we going?" I ask as we begin to speed our way through the cars on the highway, making my nails begin to dig into my seat like my life depended on it, and in my opinion, it did. I look over at Adriano to see he had a smile on his face, before letting out a small chuckle.
Laughing? Really? At a time like this, this crazy bastard is laughing.
"What is so God damn funny, Nightmare?" I ask through gritted teeth while starting to glare holes into the side of his head. His facial expression softens to a poker face before answering.
"You, fiore. I think you're the most curious and blunt person I've ever met. Remember Luna, curiosity killed the cat," He says before cracking a small grin once again, making me laugh a bit at his playfulness before covering it up with a cough. I couldn't help but laugh at this man, he was known as the most dangerous man alive, but still had a playful side to him. But I wouldn't let that get to me, I don't know what he's capable of, I don't know who s***h what this man can really be.
"Yeah, well I'm sure you'd be the same way if you were kidn*pped in a bar and forced onto going on some crazy ass mission," I say in a huff but before he could answer, I start to feel the car slowing down, making my pulse begin to pick up. Looking around, I see we're in a random town with nice condos all around. But instead of being where there are other people and cars, we're in more of a back alleyway type place.
"W-What is this place?"
"Get out and you'll see," He says before stepping out and going to the trunk of the car. Seeing as I was by myself, I quickly stepped out of the car before following his same footsteps.
Right as I go behind the car, I see that Adriano already had the hood propped open, making all the nerves in my body shake in fear at the sight in front of me.
"Guns..." Is all I mutter out. Which was a complete understatement. The trunk was filled to the rim with pistols, automatics and amo. Seeing as that Adriano was doing something in the corner of my eye, I see that he is loading up a sniper rifle type object, but a bit smaller. On instinct, I jump back at the sight, of a gun I have only seen in movies, being held and loaded right before my eyes. I part my lips to speak, but before I could even get a word out, Adriano mutters a quick 'let's go', before pulling me along somewhere else with the gun in his other hand.
I try to speak, but all that comes out is a puff of air. Adriano begins to drag me up a flight of stairs that seem to last for days before finally making it to the roof of a large building. I get a large guff of breeze as we open the metal door to the top of the building. He then pulls me towards the side of the building before setting up the rifle on the edge.
Adriano begins to shuffle for something in his pocket after he finally gets the small rifle set up, making me think it's finally time for me to speak up.
"Okay, now that you've drug me up here, what is it you-" I start to say, but stop when I see what he was shuffling for in his pocket.
"A f*****g blunt, are you kidding me?!" I say as he settles the small item between his teeth, making him let out a small guffaw before pulling out a lighter and lighting the stick. With a small inhale, he lets out a large puff of smoke.
Though I know how bad smoking is all around, the sight of him with his shaggy black hair all over the place—small blunt in hand while letting out a puff of smoke, made the sight of his ruggedly bad boy look highly arousing.
"Want some?" He says in his deep voice with a smirk on his face, making me give him a look of repulsion. All around killing the bit of arousion I had for the man in that moment.
"Oh my God, no. No time in my life will I ever try any type of drug!" I say with pure determination in my tone before trying to grab the stick out of his hand to throw it on the ground. But before I could even get close, he pulls back with a small laugh.
"Oh come on, it's not even that bad. Cigarettes have more chemicals in it then wee-" He start to say, but gets a buzz on his phone before he could fully finish the sentence.
Good thing too, because I was about to go all mom on his ass.
"That's our que, the target is in position," He says while still holding the blunt in his hand. He then positions himself on one knee in front of the gun before waving me to come closer. With hesitation, I come closer towards Adriano before getting on both of my knees as well.
"Okay, now you're going to pull the trigger when I say go, okay?" He says in urgency before putting amo in the gun and looking into the view telescope thing. I let my mouth fall agape before shaking my head frantically.
"Y-You're insane! I'm not killing anybody!" I say, making my voice c***k in fear at every word. He then gives me a look in fury before pulling me by my shoulder and making me look in the view scope thing myself.
"You see that man right there! He has killed dozens and dozens of innocent women and children! He gets pleasure out of killing innocent people, Luna. He isn't a good person, and no one that sick should have the privilege of being alive." I give a good look at the men walking out of the back of the limo, seeing how happy and content he looked. It made me think of the poor innocent people he'd killed, and how he was not fazed whatsoever onto what he's done to them.
Adriano then pulls me back and away from the gun before settling and aiming.
"Put your hands over mine on the gun. I'll guide you, and all you'll have to do is what I tell you," He says before turning to look back over at me. I part my mouth to speak, but unable to do so when nothing comes out.
"Got it?!" He yells out sternly when I don't say anything for a while. With a bit of hesitation, I slowly begin to shake my head before setting my hand over his on the trigger and scooting closer. He then looks back into the scope before speaking again.
"Now when I give you the que, pull the trigger. Got that, fiore?"
He says, making me turn my attention away from the rooftop view, to his face. Looking at facial features, I take a moment to acknowledge how his brows furrowed when he was concentrating on something, or how his pink lips perked out in a pout when he was working hard on a task. Or even how he raised his Italian accent started to come our more when he was trying to get his point across.
No Luna. Do not let his looks deceive you, he's a killer. His a person that has killed God only knows how many people. And I can tell you for a fact, I will not trust anyone that I don't know their capability.
"Hello? Luna, did you get that?" He says snapping me out of my daze. Only to see that he was looking at me with a serious expression on his face.
"Y-Yeah, sorry. Got it," I say before hesitantly turning to look back at the rooftop view. My cheeks beginning to burn hot at the embarrassment of getting caught staring.
"Okay..." he says dragging the word out before taking another puff of smoke and going back to looking through the view scope tube. There was a moment of silence where we had to just sit there next to each other. Making the situation even more awkward at the fact I have to practically sit on his lap while holding his hand.
Dear God, please let this moment pass faster.
"Okay, Luna. Get ready," He says as I begin to feel his tension on the gun intensify. Getting situated, I begin to get closer to the gun, my heart rate beginning to pick up speed. The words, 'I don't want to do this', playing over and over in my head like a broken record on repeat.
"Do it, now!" He says, making me flinch before pulling on the trigger. The sound of a high pitched ringing noise is the only thing I hear before hearing people's screams and shouts.
Holy crap, what did I just do?
I quickly jump back while beginning to hyperventilate. The next thing I see is Adriano's head pop in my line of sight before yelling another order at me.
"Come on, fiore. We've got to go!" He says in a stern voice before yanking me up off the ground and down the stairs—taking a last puff of his bud before disposing of it on the concrete stairs.
The next thing I know, I'm already down back onto the first floor while Adriano is quickly putting his armory back in the trunk of the car. Hearing a noise from behind me, I turn to see there is a person on a motorcycle pulling into the lot we were in. Before I could even ask Adriano who the person was, the person took the helmet off the reveal a tall and mid built man with brown eyes and dirty blonde hair quickly making his way towards us.
"Sorry, I almost got caught by those damn security guards back at th-" he begins to say, but stops when he's cut off by Adriano.
"Yeah okay, we're kind of in a rush, Blake," He says in a stern tone before dragging me by the hand and pulling me towards the bike. Before I can even ask what I was anticipating on asking, he throw me the helmet before patting the sit behind him.
Oh hell no, this man has to be completely out of his right mind if he actually thinks I'm going to get on a motorcycle with him. Hell, even get on a motorcycle in general.
"Oh, no no no no. I am not getting on that death trap, I won't live to even see daylight again. Do you know how danger-"
"Luna, for once stop being such a tight ass and get on the damn bike!" He yells at me before rolling the throttle, making the bike let out a loud growling sound.
Looking back, I see that the blonde haired guy had already taken off in the car me and Adriano came in. In which I let out a deep huff while putting the helmet on with the shield thing on the helmet up, before hopping on the back of the bike. My arms nervously latched around Adriano's waist as need be as he begins to rile up the bike.
With one more loud growl coming from the bike, we take off in a microsecond. I didn't realize I was gripping so tightly onto Adriano's waist until I felt the hardness of his abs under his thin black t-shirt he was wearing.
"Hey, I'm sorry about what happened back there," He yells through the loud sound of the motorcycle once we get to somewhat of a rural area. The fear from the ride beginning to turn into adrenaline the more we drive.
"What? The part of you getting me to kill someone, or the part where you called me a tight ass?"
I feel his lungs inflate and deflate, which I could only guess was a sigh since all I could really hear was the sound of the motor on the bike and the wind blowing in my face.
"Look, Luna. I needed you to kill that man so you could get used to being put in that type of situation. You needed to kind of get your feet wet before jumping in with both feet first," he says raising his voice over the sound of the motorcycle. Instead of replying, I just bite the inside of my cheek in hopes that I don't open my mouth and let one of the nasty retorts that were urging to slip out, slip out.
After a few more minutes of riding on the bike, we come to an abrupt stop at a parking lot of some building. Taking a closer look, I see that it is somewhat of a hidden place and wouldn't be seen unless really searched for.
"We're here, you can just throw the helmet anywhere," Adriano says as if he could care less before walking off to somewhere else. Quickly, I take the helmet off before setting it on the seat. Running to catch up with him, I almost yell at him to stop before walking up next to him.
"Hey, do you mind telling me where you're taking me, Nightmare?" I ask, making him stop abruptly in his path before turning to give me a look of furry.
"Look little girl, I don't fairly like you, and I try to be nice to you. But to be quite frank, I really despise you and the fact you even have to be in my presence. The only reason I'm actually putting up with your crap is because you're my old partner, and best friend's, daughter. They want you on this mission, Luna. Not me, I can work by myself and don't need your help." And with that, he leaves me standing there with the look of utter shock written on my face and my mouth agape.
I take a moment to comprehend what Adriano just said before beginning to slowly follow his footpaths back up next to him.
So the whole time he was being nice, it was all an act, it was just a charade to get me to agree and feel more comfortable with this whole mission crap.
As I begin to walk faster I eventually make it back up to him before seeing him press some numbers in on a keypad that was next to the door.
"What? So you're not going to talk at all anymore?" I ask, making Adriano shake his head in defeat before walking in the now opened door. I let out a long sigh as I follow behind him into a long hallway, before finally hitting a large room.
The sound of people typically frantically on a keyboard and mumbles of voices hitting my ears before looking and seeing people running around.
"Dove è Esposito?!" (Where is Esposito?!) Adriano yells out, making the whole room go dead silent before seeing a man with grayish hair that was pointing at something on a screen turn around and begin to make his way towards us.
"Aww, you finally made it back with the girl I see," The gray haired man says in a enthusiastic tone with a thick Italian accent leaking as he spoke.
"Tagliare le stronzate, Esposito. Cosa dovrei fare con la ragazza, ora che ho fatto quello che mi hai detto?" (Cut the bullshit, Esposito. What am I supposed to do with the girl now that I've done what you told me?) I hear Adriano mutter out in rapid Italian, making my eyebrow arch slightly in confusion at what he just said.
The man with salt and pepper hair then gives me a strange look before answering him back.
"Well, as much as you're going to hate this, I need you to let her stay with you at your place, and then we'll start her training tomorrow since we need to get started on this mission as soon as possible." He says making Adriano's mouth go agape before finally answering.
I couldn't believe what he just said, I can't live with him. What about Veronica? What about my job? I can't just leave everything I had before this behind as if it is nothing but faint memories.
"Oh no no no no. I am not letting her stay with me. I did your dirty work, now it's time for you to step in."
I wanted to acknowledge the fact that I was right there, but I was literally right next Adriano, and knew the fact they both knew I was there, and would only make the situation a thousand times more awkward.
The salt and pepper haired man then lets out a sigh in defeat before wiping his face in frustration.
"Dear God, Adriano. I don't understand why you're acting like you have something against this poor girl, and I get that you're use to working alone, but you're a thirty one year old man that needs to stop acting like an asshole and do what he is told to do," He says, making Adriano look at me with a look of pure disgust written on his face before turning back and muttering a stern, 'Fine'.
The look of disgust making me shiver and my already low self esteem shoot even lower. I get he doesn't like me, but does he really have to treat me as if I'm nothing to him? Even coming from a ruthless killer that hurts.
"Alright, now that we've got that out of the way. Maybe you should take this poor girl home to get some rest. She's got a long day ahead of her tomorrow," He says with a glint of amusement in his eyes as he stares straight into my eyes. I then give him a small smile before feeling a hand grab me and start to pull me out the door.
"Come on," He says before opening up the door and walking out towards the car that we originally had at the start of this.
"I'm only doing this for my dad," I whisper sternly in his ear before snatching my hand out of his grip and running ahead and getting in the car, making Adriano stop in his path for a second to process what I said before walking to get in the car. We both get into the car before buckling, the awkward silence being broken as Adriano finally spits out words of venom.
"We're going to my house."
