Chapter 10

1325 Words
“I am sorry you went through all that. You and your kids didn’t deserve that.” He started driving and made sure the heat was turned up. He wouldn’t look at me but I could see the scowl on his face. "Are you ok?" I asked him as his scowl deepened and  I thought I heard a growl. No way could that be true though we aren't a bunch of animals. "I just don't understand how someone could treat a great catch like you that way! Plus having kids with you and being their for all their firsts and still signing his rights away? What about all the other firsts they will have? It is selfish in my opinion." He shook his head and made a point to look straight ahead. I thought I saw his eye color change but there is now way. I am imagining all sorts of things now. Maybe the alcohol isn't the best idea since I am already going a bit loopy. “Well we don’t have to go thru it now. Divorce went through a while ago and he signed his rights over. My son kind of understands but it still hurts him. That is one the reasons I needed this vacation to clear my head and come back with a stronger resolve for my kids.” “I think you are already very strong.” He smiled at me and looked back at the road. I couldn’t stop blushing like a school girl. What is wrong with me? I looked away so he wouldn't see my face getting redder by the minute and told him thank you. "I know the sights here are breath taking but you don't have to face your whole body toward the window. I was enjoying talking to you," he chuckled as he turned onto the back road toward the cabins. I turned back toward him and gave him a small smile. This guy is a charmer not sure what to do about that. I looked over at him about to ask him a question about his life here when i noticed we were pulling to a stop. I looked back out the windshield and saw a HUGE brown bear staring down the car. "Heather do not get out of the car. I know this bear and he doesn't mean anyone harm as long as you don't move too quick or do any dangerous movements." Sebastian undid his seat belt and opened the door. "Are you getting out of the car? are you crazy? what do you mean you know this bear?" I was starting to freak out a little bit and squeezed my seatbelt a bit harder. Sebastian laughed and looked back in the car at me. "Like I said I know this bear. We have grown up together. I will be right back." He shut the door and I quickly looked all the doors. He is nuts if he thinks that bear will come any closer without my car reversing so fast and leaving his butt here. No regrets baby! He walked over to the bear and put his hand on his nose. He closed his eyes like he was praying and when he opened them, he had a worried expression on his face. He shook his head and said something to the bear before back toward the car. The bear must of understood him because he also stood up and walked about of the way of the car. He stayed standing and stared down the car. “Knock, Knock, “Sebastian said as he tapped the window with his knuckles. I jumped and stared at him with my eyes wide and mouth open. I couldn’t seem to form any words so I just stared at him and made a very embarrassing squeaky noise. I looked over at the bar and just started at him wondering when he was going to attack. “It is ok. He won’t stop us or hurt us. He just likes to get a little love now and then.” Sebastian smiled and pointed to the unlock button. I looked down at it and finally got my crap together to unlock the door. Sebastian slowly opened the door and waited for me to move over. “wait. I want to get a closer look at the bear. Do you think he would let me?” I sucked in a deep breath and cringed .Where did that come from? I was thinking about how soft the bear was in my head but why would that come out of my mouth?! My son must be wearing off of me with his confidence and no sense of danger. “Really? You’re not scared?” Sebastian was in shock and so was I. I slid closer to the door so that he would step back. “I am TERRIFIED, but he looks so soft.” I looked over at the bear and it looked like he was laughing but that could not be. He was too far to hear anything, and bears don’t laugh. He must just be a happy bear which put me at ease. “Sure. Let’s go. Leave the car on so it stays warm.” Sebastian stepped back as I got out and held my arm as we walked through the deep snow to get to the bear.  The bear never moved and kept staring at me. When I got closer his eyes were not the normal dark brown, they had more of a greenish tint in them that made them seem lighter. “This bear feels familiar. Do you think he has been around the cabins? Maybe I saw him there or maybe you have a picture of him in the main cabin?” I looked at Sebastian for a second and then returned my eyes to the bear. I put my hand out to let him sniff it like a dog would. Heck I do not know how different or the same they are. Sebastian stifled a chuckle and looked away before answering my question. “He may have been around the cabin. I do not think we have any pictures of this bear anywhere, but my mother would know more than I do about decorations.” Sebastian took my hand and put it on the bears nose. I froze thinking this is it. My hand is going to go in the bears mouth and never come out again but instead the bear pushed my hand onto his heading waiting for my to stroke its soft fur. So I did just that and scratched behind his ears. I thought I heard a purring noise come from the bar and a growl come from Sebastian but I was too focused on how soft this fur was. “Heather.” Sebastian whisper shouted as he grabbed my arm and turned my toward him. “I need you to slowly walk back to the car. NOW.” He was looking around frantically, sniffing the air. I looked at him for a second and then look at the bear who was now in a hunched position ready to attack. I started walking back to the car looking all around me seeing if I saw any danger that they must have sensed. Maybe he just wanted me to get back in the car or maybe he was sick of me already. I looked back at him for a second and then I froze. I heard a loud, anger bellow from the direction I was headed and I was too scared to look.  ******* Author's Note***** I am so sorry Chapter 9 was so short.
