I'm the beta's daughter.

On my transformation day i was kidnapped by our rivalling pack.

My best friend and alpha's son is trying to save me against the clock, only, maybe, when he finds me, i don't want to come back.

last day human
P.O.V. Zoey A loud buzzing woke me up from the most marvelous dream. I was running through the woods behind my house as a brown wolf. I'd never felt so free. It filled me with a sense of anticipation for tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day i finally meet my other half, my wolf. She'll be just like me, i'm sure of it. Not only does the gift allow us to shift and be free of our human bodies, they heal us quicker, make us faster, intensifies all our senses but also brings us our mate, the person that completes us entirely. Almost my entire pack found their mates in our packs so i'm sure i'll find my mate tomorrow. i'm so excited! I stayed in bed for another minute before convincing myself to push the warm, cozy covers back and jump out into the cold morning air. Another perk of finally going through the transformation, not being cold as easily as a human would. My parents shifted long before i was born, they never realized how cold the house was in winter and i didn't want to tell them. I jumped into my warmest clothes for my last day of school as a human and ran downstairs for a nice steaming hot coffee. When i got to the entrance of the kitchen i saw my parents being lovey-dovey as always. My dad was a Beta, i would be tooonce the old alpha resigned, i got my tan skin and brown hair from him. He was one of the best betas in centuries. He was whispering something in my mom's ear, making her giggle softly before shoving his shoulder gently. I had my big brown eyes and smile from her. When they were young my mom was thought to be the most beautiful woman of the pack and my dad had a crush on her for years before they found out they were mates. My dad shifted first, looking for his mate for months. The day after my mom shifted, he was staring at her like always when their gazes met from across the room. the rest is history. I knocked gently on the door beside me and greeted my parents. My mom put a plate of pancakes swallowed by maple syrup in front of me. I took one bite and heard a knock at our front door. Glancing at the clock realized i was extremely late for school. i threw the rest of my coffee in my favorite thermos bottle, shoved another 3 bites in my mouth and ran towards the door. I yanked the giant wooden door open, shoved my coffee into my best friend's hands and threw on my favorite leather oversized jacket. Only when my jacket and gloves were completely on and i was ready to go, did i look my best friend in the face. My goddess. He looked beautiful as ever. How could one man be this perfect? I'd always secretly hoped Jamie was my mate, i'd be lucky to have my best friend, only, he never showed an ounce of interest in me. He was much taller than me, i was tall but i looked like a leprechaun next to him. I reached up to his shoulders, barely. He wore his old stained dark jeans and his black hoodie covered under a big warm coat. Even through his layers of clothing he couldn't hide his obvious muscles that only came from being trained your whole life to take over for our alpha. His dark skin perfectly contrasted with the white snow covering the view behind him. But his eyes. His eyes are what captivated me most, i didn't know eyes could be this beautiful before i saw his. 'Jesus Christ woman you can't be thinking about him like that, he is your best friend for f**k's sake. And he doesn't like you like that.' I snapped back to reality, seeing his mouth had split into a godly knee-buckling smile. "Sup Zoey." "Hi Jamie, sorry, i'll take that back now" I pointed to my bottle before making a move to grab my bottle of coffee. before i could take my cup he turned around and we started walking towards school "don't bother, i was thirsty anyway." He gave me another smile and i almost tripped over my own feet, eyes trained on his lips. 'i need to get better at hiding my little crush' i thought to myself as i pulled my gaze off his lips and focused on the path ahead. school was a good 15 minutes away from our house and i really didn't want to arrive with wet pants from falling in the snow. Again. i looked up at him again. he opened the lid, steam bending around his face like he was a force of nature, willing the steam to surround him instead of hit him. he really out of this world. No one could look this perfect doing something as simple as taking a sip from a bottle. he smelled my bottle and looked at me. "coffee?" he asked. "naturally." "of course" he rolled his eyes a little. he took a big sip and handed my bottle back to me. he wasn't a giant fan of caffeine. i was. "oh god Z i forgot to tell you, remember I asked Breanna out over the weekend?" I nodded and made a hum sound, feeling the familiar pang of sadness mixed with a little dread. as fun and exciting it was to daydream about my best friend, the reality that he never saw me as more than a friend always came crashing down soon enough. we couldn't be anything more than friends, I had to watch him find his mate, the love of his life tomorrow, and I'd never be able to stop him. not that I wanted to, he deserves to be happy. I just wish it wasn't at the cost of my heart... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When we got to school and Jamie told me all about his adventures with 'Breanna', the day passed like any other. People swarmed him and shut me out as usual. I looked around, checking if any guy piqued my interest today (they never did), and went to first period, and second, and third, and, finally, fourth. I ate lunch with Jamie as he told me all the drama that unfolded that morning that I somehow missed even though we have the same classes. We went to the rest of our classes and started our walk back home. after some surface level chit-chat and banter he stopped talking for a moment before searching my eyes. My betraying heart skipped a beat. "are you nervous about meeting your mate tomorrow Z?" "a little yeah..aren't you?" "yeah I am. what if she isn't from our pack? OH GOD WHAT IF SHE IS? She probably knows about me being a little bit of a-" "manwhore?player? don juan? yeah, i'd presume she does, i'm pretty sure the whole pack knows." he stopped walking and fixed me with an incredulous glare. after a moment we started walking again "im sorry, that came out harsher than it needed to be. we both know your mate should only judge you about the actions you make once you feel the bond snap. if she's your mate, she'll know and respect that. you get a new life once you find your mate. And hey, maybe it's Breanna." he looked at me again and this time I winked. he smiled, a real smile, pushed me gently "God i hope not."
