I went to my room and saw Angelica.
"Hey girl." She says. "How do you like our hotel room?"
"It's nice." I said.
"Okay, good. Because it's the best one."
"Awesome.."
She got up from the bed.
"Alright, I'm going to head down to the bar, you comin?"
"I'm fine." I told her. "You go have fun."
She replied with a smile and left.
Tomorrow's my big 18 birthday.
I can't believe it. I'm going to be 18 and legal. Let's see how this goes.
I touched my lips. I'm having that feeling again. When Jayden and I kiss.
Somebody knocked on the door.
I went to go open it, assuming it was Angelica but I was wrong.
"Oh, Jayden.." I said.
"Hey."
"What are you doing down here?" I ask. "Isn't your room upstairs?"
"Actually, it's just down the hall." He told me. "And I'm here to see you."
"You just did."
"I heard there's a bar here. You wanna go?"
I shook my head. "No, I'm fine."
"Come on, let's go."
"I said no, Jay. I'm not in the mood."
"Is it because of that kiss we shared?"
"Woah." Somebody said. It was Angelica. "I didn't know you guys kissed."
"Alright, did you need something, Angelica?" I ask her.
"Yeah, kind of." She said. "Tomorrow's your big 18th birthday and I was wondering what you wanted to do for it. We're finally going to be the same age!"
"Uh.. I'll think about." I told her.
"You're birthday's tomorrow?" Jay asks.
"Yeah, she expecting something BIG." she told him. "If you know what I mean."
I hit Angelica playfully. "You dirty girl!"
She laughs. "Alright, I'll see you."
With that, she left.
"So.." He says.
"So.." I said.
"You're birthday's tomorrow, I hear."
"Yeah. But it isn't that important anyway, so I don't really care for it." I shrugged.
"You're turning 18, Mallory. That's a big deal. Don't act like it's nothing."
"Well, I'm pretty sure nobody cares. People forget them.. every year. Except for Brett of course." I said.
"I care. I mean-"
"Don't mention it, Jayden. I don't expect anything."
----------------
"SURPRISE!"
"Oh my gosh!" I said.
"You don't expect anything, eh?" Jay says.
"This is amazing!"
"Yeah, Jayden did everything." Angelica told me.
"This is.. HUGE. Thank you!"
"You didn't expect this, didn't you?" Jayden smirks.
"It's not going to make me say yes."
Later that day, it was 7pm. I had a really fun time.
"Let's all head down to the bar!" Angelic suggested.
"How?" I ask. "Aren't we suppose to be 21 to get in?"
"Brett knows somebody."
"You do?"
"I do." Brett says.
We head down to the bar and it was poppin.
"I'm gonna go get us a drink!" Angelica yelled over the loud, dramatic music.
"Okay!" I said.
"Happy Birthday." Jayden says.
"Thank you."
"Alright, I'm actually gonna go with Angelica.."
He left us alone.
"Wanna dance?" Jay asks.
"Aren't we getting our drinks?"
"Right.."
They both came back and handed us our drinks.
"Let's dance!" Angelica screamed.
She had a bit too much.
"Let's go!" Brett screamed.
So did Brett.
They left to dance.
"I have to tell you something." Jayden said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Do you remember when I told you that I failed English and Math?"
"Yeah. What about it? You didn't get into a good college?"
"Actually.. I did pass." He told me.
"So.. are you saying that you lied to me?" I ask.
"Yeah." He nods. "I'm sorry for lying to you. I just wanted-"
"You wanted what, Jayden? s*x?"
"It's not that, Mallory."
"Forget it, I'm done with this s**t. Don't even bother talking to me. You lied to my face! You accused me."
"I didn't mean to lie to you. Please listen to me, Mallory."
"I don't think I want to listen to you."
I turned around and bumped into somebody.
"I'm sorry." I said.
"No, I'm sorry." The man said.
He looked like he was in his mid-30s.
What's he doing in a bar?
-----------------------
There was a knock on my door.
I went to go open it.
It was Angelica.
"Hey." I said. "Where were you?" I yawned.
"In.. Brett's hotel room..." She answered.
I stopped yawning and took a long look at her.
"Oh no. Don't tell me.."
"Yes.." she said.
"You couldn't have!"
"Well, we did! Please, don't tell our foster parents, Mallory." She begged. "I'm trusting you."
"I will not repeat what your friend did to you." I told her.
"Thank you."
"Alright, come in."
Jayden's POV:
That man last night looked at Mallory very strangely.
There was a knock on my door. I went to go open it. It was the same man from last night.
"Can I help you?" I ask him.
"Yes, you know Mallory Walls, right?" He asks.
"Why?"
"I just need a yes or a no."
"Yes."
"Okay, uh.. do you know where I could find her? Possibly, do you know her hotel room?" He asked.
"Why would I tell you?"
"It's personal."
"Then I won't tell you." I said.
He groaned. "Alright, I'll tell you. But you cannot tell Mallory."
"How do you even know her?"
"I'm about to tell you now."
He came in and sat down. I closed the door and sat down also.
"I'm her biological father." He told me.
"You're her biological father?" I exclaimed.
"Yes. I am." He said.
"Are you sure?" I ask. "You could be lying. You look pretty young to be a dad."
"I'm 35." He told me.
"35?!" I exclaimed. "Mallory just turned 18 yesterday.. how could you.. what?" I was so confused.
"I got my girlfriend pregnant twice in high school. At age 15, I got her pregnant and we had a daughter named, Mina. At age 17, I got her pregnant again and we had a daughter, which is Mallory." He told me.
"Oh... so where is she now?" I ask.
"Who?"
"You're wife."
"Oh, we never got married."
"Well, where's your girlfriend now?" I asked.
"She... she passed away after giving birth to Mallory." He told me.
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"Please, you cannot tell Mallory any of this."
"It's okay. She won't even talk to me anymore."
"Were you her boyfriend?" He asks.
"Sort of.. well, it's kind of complicated right now. I'll just say, we aren't together."
"She looks just like her mother. Beautiful and smart."
"So you really are her dad, huh?" I ask.
"Yeah."
"Oh yeah. Why is she in a foster home?"
"I couldn't take care of two kids myself. It was impossible. We were both 15 that time when I got my girlfriend pregnant. We had a little of money and a lot of support. 2 years after that, we were 17 and I had gotten her pregnant again. That time, she was pretty sick and passed away after. I didn't have enough money so I put them both in a foster home." He told me.
"I'm so sorry." I said. I didn't know what else to say.
"I don't know if Mina or Mallory will trust me or forgive me."
"I'm pretty sure they will. They'll have to. Yes, they'll be surprised and won't accept it at first, but they'll understand." I said to him. "Oh, yeah. I forgot to ask. What's your name? And your girlfriend's?"
"My name's Dan and my girlfriend's name was Daniella. It's similar." He says.
"I'm Jayden. Nice to meet you, Mr. Walls." I said.
"Actually, my last name isn't Walls. It's Foyer."
"Well, nice to meet you, Mr. Foyer."
